<p>Disney said it is expected to pay Comcast’s NBCU about $8.61 billion by December 1 as a part of the deal, which represents NBCU’s percentage of the $27.5 billion guaranteed floor value for Hulu set in 2019 minus the anticipated outstanding capital call contributions payable by NBCU to Disney.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“She experienced immediate and severe pain internally and, as she stood up, blood began rushing from between her legs.”&nbsp;</p>

<p>“She was transported to a local hospital by ambulance for medical care and treatment, and eventually transported to another hospital for the repair of her gynecologic injuries by a specialist," says the complaint further.</p>

<p>The lawyer who filed the lawsuit on Emma's behalf has claimed that though Disney knew about the risks associated with a water&nbsp;slide, the risks were not disclosed to visitors to the park and also not to McGuinness.</p>

<p>“The slide was unsafe and unreasonably dangerous to Ms. McGuinness and other patrons because it failed to meet the expectations of a reasonable consumer, including Ms. McGuinness.” says the lawsuit.</p>

<p>There was no comment from Disney immediately.</p>

Disney filed counterclaims that included asking a state court to declare the agreements valid and enforceable. The company amended those counterclaims on Thursday, saying the DeSantis-controlled district was in violation of the U.S. Constitution stipulations on contracts and due process.</p>

The agreements were signed before DeSantis and the GOP-controlled Florida Legislature took over the governmental body in the spring.</p>

<p>The agreements shifted control of design and construction at the theme park resort from the new DeSantis appointees on the board of the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District (CFTOD) to Disney. The DeSantis appointees are now challenging the legality of the agreements in state court. DeSantis isn’t a party in the state court lawsuit.</p>

<p>“Disney faces concrete, imminent, and ongoing injury as a result of CFTOD’s new powers and composition, which are being used to punish Disney for expressing a political view,” said Disney’s federal court motion.</p>

<p>The revised complaint would challenge “this unconstitutional weaponization of government by seeking a declaratory judgment that will allow Disney to pursue its future in Florida free from the ongoing retaliatory actions of the CFTOD Board,” Disney said.</p>

<p>U.S. District Judge Allen Winsor on Friday rejected Disney’s motion to narrow the scope because of a procedural rule requiring Disney attorneys to confer with DeSantis’ attorneys before filing such a request. The judge said Disney could refile its request after complying with the court rule. An email seeking comment was sent to Disney attorneys on Sunday.</p>

<p>Already involved in two lawsuits with Disney, Gov. Ron DeSantis’ appointees to a board that oversees Disney World’s governing district on Monday launched a battle against the company on a new front — free passes and discounts for district employees.</p>

<p>Board members of the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District submitted a complaint to the state Inspector General, claiming that the millions of dollars in season passes, as well as discounts on hotels, merchandise, food and beverages, that their Disney-supporting predecessors provided governing district employees amount to unethical benefits and perks.</p>

<p>Last year alone, before the DeSantis appointees took over the governing board and it was still controlled by Disney backers, around $2.5 million in discounts and passes were given to district employees and their families, the board said in a news release.</p>

<p>The arrangement was self-serving to the company because it funnelled money back to Disney, with the district footing the bill, the release said.</p>

<p>Disney didn’t respond to an email seeking comment. A spokesman for the board didn’t respond to a request for the letter sent to the Inspector General, which investigates fraud, mismanagement, waste and abuse.</p>

<p>The arrangement appears to be more like an employee benefit rather than a taxpayer scam, similar to the way professors at a university may get free passes to athletic events or free tuition for family members, said Richard Foglesong, a Rollins College professor emeritus who wrote a definitive account of Disney World’s governance in his book “Married to the Mouse: Walt Disney World and Orlando.”</p>

Disney to close Lucasfilm Singapore studio amid industry challenges and restructuring

<p>Disney on Wednesday reported a loss for the most recent quarter, with the number of subscribers to its streaming service shrinking again, but a pledge to crack down on password sharing sent shares higher in after-market trades.</p>

<p>The falling Disney+ subscriber numbers -- for the third consecutive quarter -- came as a crippling writers and actors strike hits the US entertainment industry, threatening the company's ability to produce content key to the streaming service's appeal.</p>

<p>"It is my fervent hope that we quickly find solutions to the issues that have kept us apart these past few months," chief executive Bob Iger, whose contract has been extended through 2026, said of negotiations with striking actors and writers.</p>

<p>"I am personally committed to working to achieve this result."</p>

<p>Hollywood television and movie writers went on their first strike in 15 years in May, only to be joined in mid-July by actors.</p>

<p>The last time Hollywood writers laid down their pens and keyboards, in 2007, the strike lasted 100 days and cost Los Angeles's entertainment economy around $2 billion.</p>

<p>This time, the two sides are clashing as writers demand higher pay, minimum guarantees of stable employment and a greater share of profits from the boom in streaming, while studios say they must cut costs due to economic pressures.</p>

<p>The current double whammy of actors and writers is the first since the 1960s.</p>

<p>At issue for both labor groups in the age of streaming is better pay and residuals, and the role of artificial intelligence, which they fear the studios would like to use to replace them.</p>

<p>As things stand, neither the unions nor the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP), the body that represents the studios, seems prepared to give ground.</p>

<p>- Password sharing a 'priority' -</p>

<p>Disney+ finished the quarter with 146.1 million subscribers, compared with just shy of 158 million in the first three months of this year, the group said.</p>

<p>All but a sliver of the loss in Disney+ subscribers took place in India, where the entertainment titan early this year lost rights to stream popular Premier League cricket matches.</p>

<p>Rival Netflix recently reported that its subscriptions climbed by nearly six million in the wake of its crackdown on password sharing.</p>

<p>Iger told financial analysts that Disney+ password sharing is "significant" and that the company plans to start tackling the situation.</p>

<p>"We already have the technical capability to monitor much of this," Iger said.</p>

<p>"We're going to get at this issue; we certainly have established this as a real priority."</p>

<p>Disney announced it will raise its streaming service subscription price in the United States to $14 monthly starting October 12, an increase of $3.</p>

<p>The company also expanded availability of an ad-supported Disney+ tier to Canada and parts of Europe.</p>

<p>Third Bridge analyst Jamie Lumley believes Disney+ has "a long road ahead" to becoming profitable.</p>

<p>"Our experts expect that 2025 is a more realistic timeline to achieve profitability than next year," Lumley said.</p>

<p>"Especially considering factors like the dual strike in Hollywood and relatively weak reception of Disney's content by audiences."</p>

<p>Disney shares were up more than 2 percent to $90 in after-market trades despite the drop in streaming service subscriber numbers and a posted loss of $460 million in the quarter.</p>

<p>The unusual quarterly loss for the company was due to charges related to ending licensing agreements and yanking content from its streaming platforms.</p>

<p>Disney reported that its theme parks and cruise business continued to rebound from the pandemic, even while its traditional television offerings face a trend of ad dollars shifting to online viewing alternatives.</p>

<p>Popular Indian designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee is all set to collaborate with Disney for its 100th anniversary. The 49-year-old announced the same via a special post on social media on Monday. Expressing his excitement, he shared how he will mark 100 years of Disney and the role he will play in the "Disney Create 100" celebration.</p>

<p>"Sabyasachi is honoured to celebrate 100 years of creativity and storytelling with Disney Create 100," the post's caption read.</p>

<p>Reflecting on the collaboration, the renowned Indian fashion designer said, "I grew up with the beloved character Mickey Mouse. There weren’t endless streams of entertainment back then, but Disney was always around. I think the fantastical worlds created by Disney shaped my imagination and made me the designer I am today. It’s my absolute honour and privilege to represent India and be a part of Create 100. It feels like a perfect homecoming."</p>

The makers of the upcoming reimagining of Disney's animated classic got brutally trolled across social media platforms for its questionable&nbsp;cast and for opting for a mix of gender, ethnicities, and height while casting the seven dwarfs in a supposed attempt at diversity.</p>

<p>The leaked images surfaced online on Thursday after Daily Mail released them. The images were reportedly taken in Bedfordshire, England the same day.</p>

<p>The first image showed an actress dressed as Snow White in her signature yellow and blue dress with a red cape. She was accompanied by a cast of diverse male and female actors playing the seven dwarfs.</p>

<p>The woman in the photo wasn't actress Rachel Zegler, who will be portraying Snow White in the upcoming live-action film. She was actually a "stand-in extra" who stood in the frame "for post-production photography".</p>

<p>Meanwhile, in another statement to The Independent, a Disney spokesperson clarified, “The images that ran [in the Daily Mail] are not official film photos. These show stand-ins for some talent and do not feature Rachel Zegler or Andrew Burnap.”</p>

The makers of the upcoming reimagining of Disney's animated classic got brutally trolled across social media platforms for its questionable cast and for opting for a mix of gender, ethnicities, and height while casting the seven dwarfs in a supposed attempt at diversity.
