Petrol and diesel price hike spilt into its tenth day on Tuesday in some of the major cities including Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai.

In most cases, the rise in petrol prices ranged between 14-34 paise a litre and 21-31 paise a litre for diesel.

The spike in global crude oil prices fuelled by US President Donald Trump’s decision to withdraw from the Iran nuclear deal is seen as the biggest perpetrators of escalating oil prices in countries across the globe.&nbsp;

Political and economic turmoil in Venezuela, a major petroleum exporting country, could also be put to blame.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, Congress leader and former Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram slammed the Modi government for the ongoing rise in petrol and diesel prices. Chidambaram claimed that the rates can easily be reduced by Rs 25 per litre.

A 16-year-old girl was killed and her body was chopped into three pieces by the person who had brought her from Jharkhand to get her employed as a domestic help in Delhi, after she demanded her salary, police said on Sunday.

The body parts of the girl were found in a drain on May 4, a day after she was killed.

After the body was found, police scanned the footage from CCTV cameras installed in Mianwali Nagar and the tenants of nearly 200 homes in the area were "analysed", police said.

Police received a tip-off that one of the tenants, a resident of Jharkhand, was missing since the girl's killing.

A raid was conducted at his village but he was not there.

Later, police learnt that the man was expected to visit his rented accommodation in Delhi on May 17. A trap was laid and he was arrested.

The man, Manjeet Karketa, confessed that he killed the girl with help from two other people, including a woman.

During interrogation, he revealed that the three persons used to lure young and poor girls from Jharkhand promising them attractive employment in Delhi, police said.

They had brought the victim to Delhi around three years ago and got her employed as a domestic help. The accused used to collect her salary and did not pay her, police said.

After one year, the girl quit the job and visited the Karketa on May 3, when he and his accomplices killed her. They chopped her body into three pieces and dumped them in a drain, police said.

HD Kumaraswamy, who will be sworn in as Chief Minister of Karnataka on Wednesday, will be in Delhi today to meet Sonia Gandhi and Congress President Rahul Gandhi.&nbsp;

Kumaraswamy and the Gandhis will discuss the nitty gritties of government formation in the southern state.&nbsp;

News reports said Monday that the Congress — which has 78 MLAs, the JD(S) now has 37 after Kumaraswamy gave up the second seat he contested from — is expected to end up with 20 ministers in the 33-member cabinet.&nbsp;

News reports added that Karnataka could get two deputy chief ministers. It had earlier been decided that the deputy chief ministership would go to a Dalit, with the Congress's G Parameshwara expected to fill the post.&nbsp;

There has now been a second demand for a Lingayat to be made deputy chief minister, which may lead to the state having two of them.&nbsp;

The reports added that the Congress would make no demands of the JD(S) in order to keep the coalition stable.&nbsp;

On Sunday, Kumaraswamy termed reports of a power-sharing formula of 30 months each between the two parties as "bogus".

"I'm visiting New Delhi tomorrow...I will meet Congress President Rahul Gandhi and the party's senior leader Sonia Gandhi," he told reporters in Bengaluru.

Based on the outcome of discussions with them, a decision will be taken on the number of Congress and JD(S) MLAs who will become ministers, Kumaraswamy added.

BS Yeddyurappa had on Saturday stepped down as the chief minister without facing the floor test in the state assembly as the BJP fell short of numbers, following which Kumaraswamy met Governor Vajubhai Vala, and said he had been invited to form the government.

The May 12 Karnataka assembly polls threw up a hung assembly, with the BJP emerging as the single largest party with 104 seats.

While making it clear that there have been no discussions yet on the portfolio allocation, Kumaraswamy requested the media not to create confusion among the public and MLAs with such "speculative" reports.

He also asserted that within 24 hours of taking oath, he would prove his majority on the floor of the House.

"Mostly on Wednesday there will be oath-taking ceremony after that on Thursday we will complete the process of Speaker's election and trust vote," he added.

After meeting the governor, Kumaraswamy had said the swearing-in ceremony would take place tentatively between 12 noon and 1.50 pm at Kanteerava stadium on May 21.

But, later he announced that the event would be held on May 23 as May 21 happens to be the death anniversary of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.

The venue of the swearing-in is also likely to be changed, with party sources now saying it is likely to take place at Vidhana Soudha (the seat of the state legislature).

However, Kumaraswamy said he had spoken to the Chief Secretary and other senior officials about it and they would take a call on the venue.

Kumaraswamy met his father and former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda at his residence on Sunday and later visited the hotel where JD(S) MLAs are camping and held a meeting with them.

Asked about reports on power-sharing formula of 30 months each that is being worked out with the Congress, Kumaraswamy said, "No such talks have taken place."

On reports about parleys with Congress leaders regarding elections in Rajarajeshwari Nagar and Jayanagar assembly constituencies, Kumarasamy described it as "bogus".

"It is a bogus news...No such discussions have taken place. Winning Rajarajeshwari Nagar and Jayanagara is a necessity. Till now, no such discussions have happened," he said.

While polling was deferred in Rajarajeshwari Nagar constituency over allegations of electoral malpractice, election to Jayanagar seat was countermanded following the death of the BJP candidate.

Kumaraswamy to meet Sonia, Rahul Gandhi today in Delhi

Defending Champions Mumbai lost the&nbsp;last chance to book a play-off berth in the ongoing edition of Indian Premier League as they have been kicked out of the tournament by Delhi team at the Feroz Shah Kotla stadium on Sunday.

Earlier, the host Delhi had won the toss and opted to bat in order to take the advantage of a dry pitch and put up a 175-run target for&nbsp;Mumbai.

While chasing, team Mumbai lost all the wickets in 19.3 overs and failed to reach the target eventually losing the match by 11 runs.

The opener Evin Lewis scored 48 runs to give a required start to the team but another opener Suryakumar Yadav did not contribute much as he scored just 12 runs before losing his wicket to star spinner Sandeep Lamichhane.

Ishan Kishan and Keiron Pollard too were ineffective in today's game as they scored just five and seven runs respectively.

Rohit Sharma, who suffered an injury in the first inning while fielding, scored just 13 runs off 11 balls. Also, allrounder Krunal Pandya scored just four runs.

Hardik Pandya and Ben Cutting tried to push the run rate but that was not enough to take the team through to the play-offs.

Hardik Pandya scored 27 runs before losing the wicket to Amit Mishra on the other hand bowler Harshal Patel outbowled Ben Cutting at the score of 37 runs. Ben's short inning included two 4's and three 6's. In the death overs, Mayank Markande (3) and Jasprit Bumrah (0) lost their wickets.

For Delhi, spinners were very economical as Sandeep Lamichhane and Amit Mishra took three wickets each to restrict the defending champions. Also, pacer Harshal Patel made a very crucial contribution in his 2.3-over spell by taking three wickets by giving 28 runs.

For a magnificent spell, Amit Mishra was awarded 'Player of the Match.'

Earlier, after losing first three wickets, Delhi's Rishab Pant rose to the occasion to help its team set a decent score of 174 runs on board.

The wicket-keeper batsman slammed 64 runs in 44 balls which included four boundaries and four huge sixes.

It is Pant's fifth half-century in this year's tournament.&nbsp;

Supporting him at the other end was Vijay Shankar, who smashed 43 runs in 30 balls. His unbeaten inning included three fours and two sixes.

Skipper Shreyas Iyer and opener Prithvi Shaw once again failed to contribute any big score and departed after making six and 12 runs, respectively.

For a magnificent spell, Amit Mishra was awarded 'Player of the Match.' Earlier, after losing first three wickets, Delhi's Rishab Pant rose to the occasion to help its team set a decent score of 174 runs on board. The wicket-keeper batsman slammed 64 runs in 44 balls which included four boundaries and four huge sixes. It is Pant's fifth half-century in this year's tournament.

Ahead of his swearing-in as the Karnataka chief minister, JD(S) leader HD Kumaraswamy will meet Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi in Delhi on Monday to discuss the modalities of government formation.

Clarifying that no discussion has taken place so far on the allocation of ministerial berths, Kumaraswamy termed reports on the power-sharing formula of 30 months each between the parties as "bogus".

"I'm visiting New Delhi tomorrow ... I will meet Congress President Rahul Gandhi and the party's senior leader Sonia Gandhi," he told reporters here.

Based on the outcome of discussions with them, a decision will be taken on the number of Congress and JD(S) MLAs who will become ministers, Kumaraswamy added.

BS Yeddyurappa had yesterday stepped down as the chief minister without facing the floor test in the state assembly as the BJP fell short of numbers, following which Kumaraswamy met governor Vajubhai Vala, and said he had been invited to form the government.

He also asserted that within 24 hours of taking oath, he would prove the majority on the floor of the House.

"Mostly on Wednesday there will be oath-taking ceremony after that on Thursday we will complete the process of speaker's election and trust vote," he added.

After meeting the governor, Kumaraswamy had yesterday said the swearing-in ceremony would take place tentatively between 12 noon and 1.50 pm at Kanteerava stadium on May 21.

Kumaraswamy today met his father and former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda at his residence and later visited the hotel where JD(S) MLAs are camping and held a meeting with them.&nbsp

Asked about reports on power-sharing formula of 30 months each that is being worked out with the Congress, Kumaraswamy said, "No such talks have taken place."&nbsp

On reports about parleys with Congress leaders regarding elections in Rajarajeshwari Nagar and Jayanagar assembly constituencies, Kumarasamy described it as "bogus".&nbsp

"It is a bogus news ... No such discussions have taken place. Wining Rajarajeshwari Nagar and Jayanagara is a necessity. Till now, no such discussions have happened," he said.

While polling was deferred in Rajarajeshwari Nagar constituency over allegations of electoral malpractice, election to Jayanagar seat was countermanded following the death of the BJP candidate.&nbsp

Petrol price on Sunday touched a record high of Rs 76.24 per litre and diesel climbed to its highest ever level of Rs 67.57 as the oil public sector undertakings (PSUs) passed on four weeks of relentless rise in international oil prices to consumers.&nbsp

Petrol price today increased by 33 paisa a litre in Delhi —the highest since the daily price revision came into force in mid-June 2017, and diesel by 26 paisa, according to price notification issued by state-owned oil firms.

Rates vary from state to state depending on the incidence of local sales tax or value-added tax (VAT). Prices in Delhi are the cheapest in all metros and most state capitals.

With this increase, petrol has touched an all-time-high, breaching the previous high of Rs 76.06 touched in Delhi on September 14, 2013. Diesel rates are also at the all-time high level.

This is the seventh straight day of price increase since oil PSUs on May 14 resumed daily price revision after a 19-day pre-Karnataka poll hiatus. In all, petrol price has been raised by Rs 1.61 a litre and diesel by 1.64 in last one week.

In India, petrol is the costliest in Mumbai where high local taxes have led a price of Rs 84.07 per litre. Petrol has breached Rs 80 mark in Bhopal (Rs 81.83 a litre), Patna (Rs 81.73), Hyderabad (Rs 80.76) and Srinagar (Rs 80.35), according to the price notification.

Petrol in Kolkatta costs Rs 78.91 per litre while it is priced at Rs 79.13 in Chennai.

On Friday, Economic Affairs Secretary Subhash Chandra Garg refused to say if the government will cut excise duty on auto fuel to ease the burden on consumers.

The government is watching the situation developing from oil prices hitting $80 a barrel -- the highest since November 2014, and adequate steps will be taken, is all he said without elaborating.

Oil PSUs are estimated to have lost about Rs 5 billion (Rs 500 crore) on absorbing higher cost resulting from the spike in international oil rates and fall in rupee against the US dollar during the nearly three-week hiatus.

Chennai captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni is an expressionless man on the ground. Be it a bowler giving away big runs in an over to a fielder giving boundaries for singles, Dhoni always keeps it calm and cool.&nbsp

However, he also manages to lighten up the entire mood of the crowd in one go.&nbsp

The former Indian cricket team captain has attempted to fake a nap during a match and scared Ravindra Jadeja by a dummy throw, to leave the audience in splits.&nbsp

But this time it was different for spectators as Dhoni started laughing the moment Delhi skipper Shyeras Iyer flipped the coin at the toss ceremony.

It was a funny scenario as when flipped, the coin landed several feet away from where the two captains and the match officials were present.&nbsp

Watch: Shyeras Iyer's act leaves MS Dhoni in splits on ground

Shreyas Iyer won the toss and opted to bat against Mumbai during their clash at Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium on Sunday.

Speaking after the toss, Iyer said,"Going to have a bat. No grass on the wicket, seems dry, so we will look to put a big score on the board. We have been batting first in the last few games as well so we are confident of putting up a good score."

"With regards to preparation and practice we have been spot-on and we will play this game like this is our last game and put everything into it. Liam Plunkett comes in place of Avesh Khan," he added.

Talking about their strategy for today, Rohit Sharma said," Nothing changes for us, we need to restrict them to as little as possible. We are aware of these conditions, so we just have to play good cricket for 40 overs now that we know that we are bowling first and we need to restrict them to as little as possible."

IPL 2018: Delhi win toss, opt to bat against defending champions Mumbai

Defending Champions Mumbai will be on toes today to beat Delhi and book a berth in the play-off, as the two teams clash at Feroz Shah Kotla stadium on Sunday. &nbsp;

The Rohit-Sharma led team is used to miracles, if seen in the previous editions, and this year also they would be expecting another fairytale entry into the top four teams.&nbsp;

Yesterday, Kolkata defeated table-toppers Hyderabad to become the third team to make it to the play-offs. And now only one place is left with three teams fighting for the position.

Mumbai had a topsy-turvy campaign so far as after a series of defeats early in the tournament, they were able to string in the victories when it mattered the most.

In their last match against Punjab, Mumbai managed to beat the R Ashwin side by three runs.&nbsp;

Rohit Sharma's performance was once again a let down for the team, as he failed any good knock. However, it becomes important for him to shed his poor form if want to qualify.

Jasprit Bumrah's sensational three-wicket haul in the last match will give him a lot of confidence apart from his consistent show in most death over situations.

Hardik, 18 wickets and 233 runs, has been solid without being spectacular while Krunal, 224 runs and 11 wickets, has again been impressive.&nbsp;

Delhi, on the other hand, have once again brought up the rear. They outclassed formidable Chennai by 34 runs to restore some pride.

Vijay Shankar and Harshal Patel helped Delhi post 162 for five and then leg-spinners Amit Mishra (2/20) and young Sandeep Lamichhane (1/21) managed to restrict MS Dhoni-led side to 128 for six.

Skipper Shreyas Iyer would expect a similar effort from his team today also.&nbsp;

In today's clash, if Mumbai win by a big margin, it would secure them a place in the play-offs due to their high run-rate.&nbsp;

But Mumbai Indians need to win at all costs because loss would be the end of their campaign.

Earlier in the tournament, Delhi had beat Mumbai Indians by seven wickets at the Wankhede Stadium to claim their first win of the season.

Mumbai's win will put more pressure on Punjab in their match against Chennai in the final match of the group stage later in the day.

As of now, Punjab's chances of making it to the top four are next to impossible.&nbsp;

However, IPL is all about surprises and a superb win against Chennai will make the competition tougher. &nbsp;&nbsp;

Chennai failed to reach atop league's table as MS Dhoni-led Chennai team was defeated by already eliminated Delhi on Friday at Feroz Shah Kotla stadium and by handing over a tragic defeat to Chennai, team&nbspDelhi has managed to salvage its cricketing pride.

Earlier, MSD had won the toss and invited the host to bat first as the skipper Dhoni was suspicious that the pitch might deteriorate after some time.

Delhi, batting first put up a modest target of 163 runs which Chennai failed to achieve in 20 overs and lost the match by 34 runs.

While chasing, Chennai started off well as the opener Ambati Rayudu slammed half-century off 29 balls, on the other hand, another opener Shane Watson lost his wicket to Amit Mishra's tricky spin bowl after scoring just 14 runs.

Suresh Raina (15) and MS Dhoni (17) lost their wickets to &nbspSandeep Lamichhane and Trent Boult respectively. It was a good opportunity for the batsmen to prove their calibre by chasing the total but the "Yellow Brigade" lost it.

Unbeaten Ravindra Jadeja tried to push the run rate in the death over, he scored 27 crucial runs and held the inning on one side but other batsmen kept losing their wickets from the other side.

Trent Boult and Amit Mishra struck twice to restrict the Chennai team, also, young talent from Nepal Sandeep Lamichhane and Harshal Patel took one wicket each to help the bowling unit in defending the total.

In the first innings, Delhi's opener Prithvi Shaw and Shreyas Iyer scored 17 and 19 runs respectively.

Prithvi Shaw lost his wicket to Deepak Chahar and pacer Lungi Ngidi out bowled skipper Shreyas Iyer.

At number three, Rishabh Pant came in and scored 38 crucial runs for the team. Also, Vijay Shankar and Harshal Patel contributed with their bats to push the run rate and put up a decent total on the board.

Glenn Maxwell, who has been on and off throughout the tournament, again failed and scored only five runs.

For Chennai, Lungi Ngidi was proved most economical as he took two important wickets and other than that, Deepak Chahar, Ravindra Jadeja and Shardul Thakur got one wicket each.

A day after the Delhi police, in their chargesheet, named senior Congress Party leader Shashi Tharoor for abetting the suicide of his wife Sunanda Pushkar, former Finance Minister P. Chidambaram rubbished the charge, calling it "absurd."

"Charge against Shashi Tharoor is absurd. The investigating agency has manufactured a case out of an unfortunate tragedy," he tweeted on Tuesday.

For those unversed, Sunanda was found dead under mysterious circumstances in a suite of a five-star hotel in Delhi on the night of January 17, 2014.

The Delhi Police has repeatedly come under fire for delaying the investigation into the case.

However, the police, in their chargesheet filed before a Delhi court on Monday, named Tharoor as an accused, under sections 306 (Abetment of suicide) and 498A (Husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Soon after, Tharoor took to Twitter to dismiss the charge as "preposterous".

"I have taken note of the filing of this preposterous charge sheet and intend to contest it vigorously. No one who knew Sunanda believes she would ever have committed suicide, let alone abetment on my part. If this is conclusion arrived at after 4+ yrs of investigation, (contd.)," he tweeted.

The inclement weather interrupted the launch of a 140 kWp rooftop solar plant at IP Extension attended by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

Operations at the Delhi airport came to a halt due to the dust storm. At least 40 flights were diverted and more than 24 delayed, an official said.

Delhi dust storm: Four incidents of wall collapse reported

Delhi Police arrested four men Saturday for allegedly assaulting a Kashmiri woman in southeast Delhi's Sunlight Colony, a senior police officer said.

Earlier in the day, Delhi Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik informed Union Home Secretary Rajiv Gauba that the incident was a local issue, triggered by a dispute over feeding stray dogs and had nothing to do with the woman's origin.

On Thursday night, the victims, including four women, were allegedly surrounded and <a href="http://www.wionews.com/india-news/delhi-group-of-kashmiris-get-beaten-up-by-mob-136185">roughed up by a mob</a> of around 30-40 people. A police case was registered following a complaint from one of the women. She had alleged that she was physically assaulted by the mob.

The police arrested the four men -- Kalyan, a security guard, and three locals, SN Pandey, RK Chopra and Anil Lath -- on the basis of CCTV footage collected from the area.

The complainant has alleged that they were targeted because of their Kashmiri origin.

"My sisters were abused and beaten up. I have a broken left hand and a person who had come to visit us was also attacked. It was a planned attack and the accused were carrying hockey sticks," one of the victims had told PTI.

He had claimed that the accused were shouting slogans like "Kashmiri terrorists should be sent back".

He had also claimed that they had asked for police protection on May 2, but did not get any help.

"The main culprit is yet to be arrested. We have informed the police about his involvement but they have not taken any action against him. We have not been given police protection even after the incident," he told PTI today.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti spoke to her Delhi counterpart Arvind Kejriwal today about the incident.&nbsp

IPL 2018: Virat Kohli opts to bowl against Delhi

Virat Kohli-led Bangalore will take on the already-eliminated Delhi team at Feroz Shah Kotla stadium on Saturday.

On one side, Bangalore can't afford to suffer the loss in tonight's game but Delhi have got nothing to lose and they can definitely spoil Virat's plans.

Bangalore have won just three wins from 10 games, have to win their remaining four games to have any chance of making the play-offs and given their ordinary run so far in the ongoing edition of Indian Premier League,&nbsp;Bangalore doesn't evoke much hope&nbsp;even playing against a team which has already been eliminated.

Although, team Delhi is not in the play-off race but still they have improved their performance in the previous few games. In Delhi's previous encounter against Hyderabad, Rishabh Pant played a splendid inning and scored unbeaten 128 runs with a 200+ strike rate, he is also the orange cap holder at the moment.

Skipper Virat Kohli is the team's leading run-scorer with 396 runs at 49.50 but the team has failed miserably as they were unable to chase down a&nbsp;modest total of 147 runs.

The Bangalore&nbsp;have done alright with the ball and they would be hoping to maintain that at the high-scoring Kotla.

Pacers Tim Southee, Umesh Yadav and Mohammad Siraj have impressed in the different occasions.

It will be interesting to see how both teams will set the&nbsp;playing XI and there are chances that Shreyas Iyer might include Nepal's spinner Sandeep Lamichhane and South African pacer Junior Dala.

On the other hand, Virat Kolhi's side is quite balanced they just need to focus on collaborative efforts and teamwork.

Playing XI (TBC):

Delhi: Prithvi Shaw, Jason Roy, Shreyas Iyer (c), Rishabh Pant (wk), Glenn Maxwell, Vijay Shankar, Liam Plunkett, Amit Mishra, Harshal Patel, Trent Boult, Shahbaz Nadeem

IPL 2018: Match preview of Delhi vs Bangalore

According to reports, a group of Kashmiris was allegedly thrashed in Delhi's Sunlight Colony last night. The group included five people, including four women, who were beaten up by a mob of nearly 30 people.&nbsp;

The victims maintain that they were targeted because they were Kashmiri.&nbsp;

"My sisters were abused and beaten up. I have a broken left hand and one of my guests who had come to visit us was also attacked. It was a planned attack and the accused were carrying hockey sticks," said one of the victims.

Those targeted reported that the mob kept shouting, 'Kashmiri terrorists should be sent back' while attacking them.

According to a PTI report, the victims had shared that they were attacked twice previously and had been living in fear in the colony.

Another version of the episode, according to reports, suggests that a woman was confronted for regularly feeding stray dogs.&nbsp;

Colony members maintain that the woman started beating herself and they had to stop her while others were carrying sticks to brave the stray dogs.

The group included five people, including four women, who were beaten up by a mob of nearly 30 people. The victims maintain that they were targeted because they were Kashmiri. Another version of the episode, according to reports, suggests that a woman was confronted for regularly feeding stray dogs. Colony members maintain that the woman started beating herself and they had to stop her while others were carrying sticks to brave the stray dogs. A police probe has already been initiated and investigations are underway. (With inputs from PTI)
