One of the most successful captains and wicket-keeper batters to have graced the game, MS Dhoni donned the Indian jersey for one final time on this day in 2019. The former India captain's last appearance for the Men in Blue came in the semi-final of the 2019 ODI World Cup against New Zealand at Old Trafford in Manchester where he scored a gritty half-century but failed to help India qualify for the final.

The semi-final between India and New Zealand was played over two days due to rain. While India restricted the Kiwis on 239/8 on Day 1, they were not as clinical with the bat during their run-chase on Day 2 and eventually fell short of the 240-run target. It was a woeful batting performance from India with Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja saving them from a terrible collapse.

India lost their top 3 of Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul and Virat Kohli for a combined total of 3 runs before Dinesh Karthik was sent packing on 6 off 25 balls leaving the team reeling on 24/4 in the 240-run chase. Rishabh Pant and Hardik Pandya then combined to steady the ship but failed to build a good partnership.

Jadeja then joined forces with Dhoni in the middle to produce a sensational rescue act for India. The all-rounder notched up a cracking 77 off 59 balls to add 116 runs for the 7th wicket with Dhoni before being dismissed in the 48th over.

With 36 required off the last 12 balls, the onus was on Dhoni to finish the game but the veteran wicket-keeper batter was run-out by a stunning throw from Martin Guptill in the 49th over. His dismissal confirmed India's exit from the World Cup and it also turned out to be his last appearance for India in international cricket.

On this day in 2019: MS Dhoni's last match for India ends in a heart-breaking World Cup defeat

Virat Kohli's horrendous run with the bat continued in the second T20I against England on Sunday (July 10) as he was once again dismissed cheaply on just 1 off 3 balls. Kohli made his comeback in the T20I side after a gap of almost four months but failed to live up to the expectations once again as he was sent packing in no time after coming out to bat at number three.

Despite Kohli's flop show, India managed to thrash England by 49 runs in the 2nd T20I after successfully defending the total of 170 runs to clinch the three-match series 2-0 with two wins on the trot. However, the former Indian skipper's form remains a huge concern for the Men in Blue with the T20 World Cup 2022 just a few months away.

Kohli has been enduring a rough patch across all formats for India for the last few years and his recent failures have led to former cricketers and experts questioning his spot in India's T20I team. Kohli's spot is also a matter of debate after Deepak Hooda's stellar rise and stunning performances in the top-order for India in their last few T20I matches.

Former India cricketer Ajay Jadeja recently gave his take on the debate surrounding Kohli's spot in India's T20I team and said it's a call captain Rohit Sharma would have to make. Jadeja believes Rohit will have to decide if he wants to play the brand of cricket that India want with Kohli in the side or without him.

"You have been shown that there is another way of playing the same game. You are still scoring around 180 to 200. It's not that the game has changed, but you have a choice of how you want to play. I think Rohit Sharma will be making that call," Jadeja told Sony Sports.

"I think anyone who is leading the side has only two choices. That's the way I see it. Either you stick to the way you have been playing, give opportunities to youngsters or you go back to your old team that played before you started trying to give opportunities," he added.

Kohli was roped into India's playing XI for the second T20I against England in place of in-form Deepak Hooda, who had scored a match-winning half-century in the series opener. Hooda has been sublime form in the shortest format and has made the most of opportunities that have come his way so far.

Speaking about the intense competition for spots in the Indian top-order, Jadeja said Kohli would npt have been part of his team if he was to pick a T20I side for India. The former India batter also made a bold claim that Kohli wouldn't have been playing in Tests as well if not for his reputation for what he has done for the team in the past.

"Virat Kohli is a special player. If it wasn't Virat Kohli, he wouldn't have probably playing Test cricket as well. You look at the numbers and say 'oh, over the last 8, 10 matches, he hasn't scored a hundred'. But you don't leave him out just because he hasn't scored a hundred. You don't leave him out because of what he is done in the past," said Jadeja.

"Virat Kohli is a choice that you have to make. Do you want to play that solidity at the top and then get runs right at the back? It's that old-style when Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will bat at the top and you would have players like Dhoni where they get 60 in the last 4 overs. It depends on whom you want to play. I feel you have a choice, it's a tough one to make. If I had to pick a T20 side, Virat probably won't be there," he explained.

Kohli has not scored a hundred in international cricket since 2019 and has been far from consistent for the Indian team across the three formats. He was rested from the South Africa series at home post the IPL 2022 and made his comeback in the one-off 5th Test against England earlier this month.

Kohli flopped in the Test match as India lost by seven wickets. He was rested from the first T20I in the ongoing series before making his return in the 2nd T20I and was expected to fire but he once again endured a disappointing outing. Kohli will be hoping to notch up a big score when India take on England in the final 3rd T20I on Sunday (July 10).

Virat Kohli's disastrous run with the bat continued in the second T20I between India and England at Edgbaston in Birmingham on Saturday (July 09). Kohli made his much-awaited comeback to the Indian T20I team after four months in the second game of the series after missing the series-opener. All eyes were on the batting maestro, who was expected to fire all cylinders and respond to his critics in style amid his lean patch.

However, Kohli failed to get going once again as he endured yet another disappointing outing with the bat. The former India skipper was dismissed after scoring just 1 run off three balls and failed to make an impact in the game. He was roped into the playing XI in the place of in-form Deepak Hooda but failed to justify his inclusion.

Kohli was expected to open the batting with skipper Rohit Sharma after Ishan Kishan was dropped from the XI but India instead promoted wicket-keeper batter Rishabh Pant at the top in a move that surprised many. Kohli came out to bat his usual no.3 spot but it was the same story for the Indian star.

Former Pakistan cricketer Danish Kaneria slammed Kohli for his poor show in the 2nd T20I and said he is becoming a liability for Team India now. Kaneria believes Kohli should give up his spot in India's T20I squad if he cannot bounce back to form ahead of the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia this year.

"When the big guns were out, even then the team was performing, the youngsters were doing the job. The big player should understand that he is becoming a liability to the team. Virat Kohli has become a liability now. So, either he needs to give up his place or make a comeback before the T20 World Cup," Kaneria said in a video on his YouTube channel.

Kohli was playing only his 3rd T20I for India since leaving captaincy in the shortest format last year. He did not feature in the home series against New Zealand last year and also missed the series against Sri Lanka and South Africa this year. He has been enduring a lean patch across formats in international cricket over the last few years and has struggled to score runs consistently.

Speculations are rife over Ravindra Jadeja's future at Chennai Super Kings (CSK) after the star all-rounder recently deleted all the posts related to the franchise from his Instagram account. Jadeja was appointed as CSK's captain ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 this year but had to step down midway through the season after the franchise managed only a couple of wins in their first eight matches.

MS Dhoni had relinquished CSK's captaincy at the start of IPL 2022 to hand over the baton to Jadeja. However, the all-rounder failed to get off to an impressive start in his captaincy stint with CSK losing four matches in a row. The Men in Yellow brought an end to their losing streak in their 5th game of the season before managing only one win in their next three matches.

Jadeja stepped down from captaincy midway through the season as Dhoni was asked to take over again. The star all-rounder, who didn't have a great campaign on the personal front as well, was later ruled out from the tournament due to an injury.

England pacer James Anderson revealed Jonny Bairstow was left annoyed after Virat Kohli's continuous sledging attempts against him during the recently-concluded fifth Test between India and England at Edgbaston. England thrashed India by 7 wickets in the rescheduled fifth Test to draw the 2-2 and deny the visitors a historic Test series win. Bairstow and Joe Root were the heroes with the bat for England as they slammed centuries apiece to help the hosts chase down the target of 378 runs comfortably in their second innings.

Bairstow, who slammed back-to-back hundreds in England's both innings, was involved in a heated exchange with Indian star Kohli on Day 3 of the Test match. The duo had an exchange in the middle before Kohli was seen gesturing Bairstow to shut down with a finger on his lips. Bairstow remained unfazed despite Kohli's sledging attempts and notched up a brilliant century.

Anderson revealed Kohli was sledging Bairstow a lot but it only worked in the favour of the England batter as it pumped him up and helped him improve his scoring rate. Anderson also recalled Bairstow's reaction in the dressing room at lunch after Kohli's sledging attempts against him.

Bairstow was one of the stand-out performers for England in the Edgbaston Test with knocks of 106 and an unbeaten 114 in the two innings respectively. The stylish right-hander turned out to be a nightmare for Indian bowlers during England's run-chase in the second innings as he looked in fine form and helped the hosts pull off their highest ever run chase in Test cricket.

If there's somebody you don't want to rub up the wrong way, it is Jonny Bairstow," the England pacer added. Indian cricket team's preparations for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia this year are currently underway with the visitors taking on England in a three-match T20I series away from home. Indian selectors have their tasks cut out as they face some serious selection headaches in the build-up to the showpiece event Down Under with intense competition for spots in the squad.

While there are a number of youngsters who have been impressing with their current form, the struggles of regular players like Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant and skipper Rohit among others in T20Is is concerning for Team India. Kohli has been enduring a rough patch with the willow for the last few years and has not managed to score runs consistently across all formats.

Kohli's lean patch has led to questions over his spot in India's squad for T20 World Cup 2022 with many believing it's time for the selectors to drop him and hand chances to younger players. Former India captain Kapil Dev too believes Kohli should be benched if he cannot bounce back to form in the ongoing England T20I series.

The legendary India all-rounder argued if someone like R Ashwin, who has been India's best spinner in Tests over the years now, can be dropped for an entire England series why can Kohli be dropped from T20Is.

"Yes, now the situation is such that you might be forced to bench Kohli from T20 playing eleven. If world No. 2 bowler Ashwin can be dropped from the Test side, then (once upon a time) world No. 1 batter can also be dropped," Kapil said on ABP News.

Kapil believes there should be healthy competition for spots in the Indian team and that youngsters should be given a chance to play and outperform Kohli, who is not batting at the same level that he once was in his career.

"Virat is not batting at a level which we have seen him do over the years. He has made a name because of his performances, but if he isn't performing, then you can't keep the performing youngsters out of the team," said the legendary cricketer," said Kapil.

"I want competition for places in the team in a positive sense that these youngsters should try and outperform Virat," he added.

The World Cup-winning captain also urged the Indian selectors to not go by the reputation of the players when picking the squad and give a fair chance to those who have showcased good form and have performed well for the team. Kapil believes the selectors should make good utilisation of India's large talent pool instead of sticking around with players who are out of form.

"Play in-form players when you have loads of options. You can't just go by reputation but you have to look for the current form. You can be an established player, but that doesn't mean that you will be given chances even if you fail five games in a row," concluded the former India captain.

India started their white-ball series versus England on a winning note by defeating Jos Buttler-led English line-up by 50 runs in the first T20I at the Rose Bowl, Southampton on Thursday (July 07). While Hardik Pandya was the star performer, returning with 51 and 4 for 33, Deepak Hooda, Suryakumar Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal and Arshdeep Singh also had a good outing.

After Rohit Sharma-led India's convincing win, former Indian opener Wasim Jaffer has heaped praise on Deepak Hooda and feels his recent performances will put pressure on a struggling Virat Kohli. While Kohli's strike rate has dipped a bit, especially in the IPL, Hooda has been onsong since the Ireland T20Is. The right-hander has had scores of 47*, 104, 59 and 33 in his last four T20Is and the 27-year-old has impressed with his hitting abilities from the word go, helping India get off to a flying start in the powerplays.

Thus, Jaffer told ESPNCricinfo, "Hooda’s performance will put pressure on Virat Kohli when he comes back. You’ve got a guy who has done so well, performed consistently in the IPL and the T20Is as well. The pressure might bring out the best of Virat Kohli."

“The big guys who are missing, KL Rahul (after recovering from injury) and Virat, are going to come back. But India will be happy that they have got the guys to back them up. However, the approach needs to be similar. This is the brand of cricket they need to play if they want to dominate this format. This is something we would like to see from the main guys as well,” Jaffer further asserted.

You can create your bench strength as well, a lot of opportunities for guys to come out and play. Former England captain Michael Vaughan has urged Virat Kohli to take a long sabbatical from cricket in order to rejuvenate himself and regain his lost form amid his ongoing rough patch. Kohli has struggled to score runs consistently across all formats over the last few months and has failed to spark a turnaround despite having been backed by many to bounce back. Vaughan believes a break can prove to be helpful for Kohli.

Kohli has been enduring a rough patch with the willow for quite some time now. He failed to get going for his franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 before being rested from the T20I series against South Africa at home.

Umran Malik is very much in our plans: Rohit Sharma hints at playing fiery pacer in T20I series vs England

England cricket team's new approach in Test cricket has been hailed by many as it continues to deliver results for them on a consistent basis. England are currently unbeaten in their last four Test matches at home after thrashing India by seven wickets in the recently-concluded rescheduled fifth Test at Edgbaston in Birmingham. England were ruthless with the bat as they comfortably chased down the target of 378 runs to deny India a historic Test series win.

India were favourites ahead of the start of England's second innings in the game after handing them a tricky target of 378 runs. However, Jonny Bairstow and Joe Root slammed unbeaten tons as the hosts dominated the proceedings to pull off their highest-ever run-chase in Test history.

England have been enjoying a dominant run in the whites ever since the arrival of new Test coach Brendon McCullum and star all-rounder Ben Stokes taking over as captain of the red-ball team. They have now chased down targets in excess of 250 runs in their last four Tests and their aggressive approach with the bat has wowed many.

England's new approach in Tests has been famously labelled as 'Bazball' in reference to head coach McCullum's nickname Baz. Recently, Australia batter Steve Smith was asked about 'Bazball' and he came up with an interesting reply while also issuing a warning to England.

Smith said he is intrigued to see how long will 'Bazball' work for England in the longest format and if their approach will be the same when they face Aussie quicks Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Star and Pat Cummins in tandem when facing Australia.

"It's been exciting, I'm just intrigued to see how long it lasts, if it's sustainable," Smith told on the eve of Australia's 2nd Test against Sri Lanka in Galle on Wednesday (July 06)

Smith revealed that Australian players have been joking about 'Bazball' in the dressing room and that Australia's new head coach Andrew McDonald has already had enough of the term. The Former Australian skipper also admitted he has himself watched England's new approach and has been entertained by it.

"Guys just keep joking about it - I think Ronnie [McDonald] has had enough of hearing about Bazball to be honest, it's good fun to joke about," Smith said.

"I've watched a little bit of it, it's certainly been entertaining, they're coming out playing their shots. Even someone like Alex Lees started to come down the wicket when he was on nothing really, to play the way he played," he added.

Also Read: 'He is beyond Fab 4': Former India opener lauds Joe Root for his incredible consistency in Test cricket Smith said he is intrigued to see how long will 'Bazball' work for England in the longest format and if their approach will be the same when they face Aussie quicks Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Star and Pat Cummins in tandem when facing Australia. "It's been exciting, I'm just intrigued to see how long it lasts, if it's sustainable," Smith told on the eve of Australia's 2nd Test against Sri Lanka in Galle on Wednesday (July 06) "If you come on a wicket that's got some grass on it and Josh Hazlewood, Cummins and Starc are rolling in at you, is it going to be the same? Joe Root has been enjoying a stellar run with the bat in Test cricket for England. The former England skipper has been in tremendous form and has been piling on runs for fun in the whites. He has been incredibly consistent over the last couple of years and has already breached the 10,000 run-mark in the longest format.

After helping England register a dominant Test series win over New Zealand at home, Root continued his sublime form in the recently-concluded one-off fifth Test against India at Edgbaston. The former England skipper slammed an unbeaten century in the second innings to help his team pull off their highest-ever run-chase in Test cricket and thrash India by seven wickets.

He also surpassed the likes of Ricky Ponting and Viv Richards among others to achieve the elusive feat of scoring most Test centuries against India. He now has nine tons against India which is the most by any batter in Test cricket. Former India opener Aakash Chopra recently lauded Root for his consistency.

The term 'Fab 4' was coined for Kohli, Root, Williamson and Smith as the top four batters in the world in the present era.

"Joe Root has scored more than 10,000 Test runs and 25% of that have come in last two years. When Steve Smith and Virat Kohli were on 27 Test hundreds, Root was on 15-16. Now they are still on 27 and Root has raced to 28 hundreds," Chopra said in a video on his YouTube channel.

"We used to feel he isn't a part of the 'Fab 4' and I still feel so, because now he is beyond them. The audacity to hit Trent Boult and Shardul Thakur for reverse sweeps shows that he has all the shots," he added.

'He is beyond Fab 4': Former India opener lauds Joe Root for his incredible consistency in Test cricket

Virat Kohli might not have been in the best of form with the bat during the recently-concluded rescheduled fifth Test between India and England at Edgbaston in Birmingham but he was a livewire on the pitch. Despite struggling with the bat on the persona front, Kohli didn't let his intensity go down while fielding and was in the thick of the action throughout the Test match which India ended up losing by 7 wickets.

India lost the game after England comfortably chased down the mighty target of 378 runs in their second innings to script history as the hosts pulled off their biggest ever run-chase in Test cricket. Both India and England players gave their all but the hosts managed to come out on top in the end with a comprehensive win.

Kohli, who was spotted giving the Indian team a pep talk on the field on Day 1 of the Test match, remained actively involved in the proceedings. He was often seen celebrating passionately after the dismissals of the England batters and also tried to sledge a few while fielding. Kohli enjoyed a verbal battle with Jonny Bairstow in both innings and tried to get on the nerves of the English star.

During England's second innings, Kohli was seen walking up to Bairstow and having a heated spat before asking him to shut his lips with his gesture. However, it didn't affect Bairstow much as he went on to score centuries in both innings to help his team win the game and draw the five-match series 2-2.

Former England cricketer David Llyod was far from impressed with Kohli's antics during the Test match and slammed him for his behaviour. The cricketer-turned commentator took a dig at Kohli suggesting he should take up cage fighting instead of playing cricket.

"Having said that, I do wonder where the line is and who draws it. Sportsmanship, banter, boorish behaviour, insults, abuse — we saw everything on day four. Cricket is a non-contact sport, but if a player feels the need to engage another, my advice is: take up cage fighting and have a proper go. Let’s see what you’re really made of," Lloyd wrote in his column for the Daily Mail.

Llyod later went on to call Kohli a 'pantomime villain' over his continuous sledging of England players but lauded the former India captain for his gesture post the conclusion of the game. Kohli was seen congratulating both Joe Root and Bairstow after England won the game with the help of unbeaten centuries from the duo.

'Take up cage fighting': England great takes a dig at 'villain' Virat Kohli over his antics in Edgbaston Test

The Indian women's team dominated from start to finish, with both the bat and ball, to hammer Sri Lanka by 10 wickets in the second ODI and take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series here on Monday. It is worth mentioning that the Indian team's openers fired for the first time on the tour, sharing a partnership of 174 runs to see the visitors home in just 25.4 overs and finally managing to silence their detractors after being pilloried for their below-par show.

It is the highest target successfully chased without losing a wicket in women's ODIs. The bowlers set it up for the tourists by dismissing Sri Lanka for 173, and after that, Smriti Mandhana's stroke-filled 94 off 83 balls and Shafali Verma's run-a-ball 71 paved the way for the convincing win.

The experienced Mandhana struck 11 boundaries and a six in her blazing knock, while Verma found the fence four times and cleared it once. After having won the first ODI comfortably, the Indians came into the second game as firm favourites against a wobbly Sri Lankan side. Adding to the visitors confidence was the fact that they also triumphed in the preceding three-match T20I series.

After winning the toss, Indian skipper Harmanpreet Kaur asked Sri Lanka to bat first on a surface in favourable conditions for the bowlers. The hosts soon found themselves in all sorts of trouble as pacer Renuka Singh was on point with her lengths from the word go.

The 26-year-old reigned supreme with the ball, with a career-best 4 for 28, rattling the Sri Lankan top-order with three quick strikes. Even as wickets fell at regular intervals, lower-order batter Ama Kanchana held fort for the hosts with an unbeaten 47 off 83 balls. Seasoned off-spinner Deepti Sharma's two wickets off the last two balls helped India bowl out the Lankans.

Mandhana, Verma fire as all-round India thrash Sri Lanka by 10 wickets in 2nd ODI to seal series

India head coach Rahul Dravid said it was disappointing to lose the rescheduled 5th Test against England at Edgbaston in Birmingham on Tuesday (July 05) as the hosts thrashed India by 7 wickets to level the five-match series which was postponed last year 2-2. England chased down the target of 378 runs comfortably in their second innings with the help of unbeaten centuries from Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow to pull off the highest-ever run chase in Test cricket.

India were ahead in the all-important Test match for the first three days as they aimed to script a historic series win in England with a 2-1 lead in their bag from last year. However, England got the better of Jasprit Bumrah & Co., who struggled massively with the ball during England's second innings and managed to pick up only three wickets.

India have now lost their last three Test matches in a row overseas. They had suffered back-to-back defeats in the final two Tests against South Africa earlier this year and have now lost three in a row overseas. Dravid rued the missed opportunities in South Africa and said India have struggled to pick 20 wickets in a Test match over the last few months which is one of the major reasons behind the drop in performances.

"It's been disappointing for us. I mean we had a couple of opportunities in South Africa as well and here as well. I just think it's something we need to look at, something we need to probably work on," Dravid told reporters after India's 7-wicket loss at Edgbaston.

"We have been very good at that over the last few years, in terms of taking wickets and winning those Test matches. But, yeah, we haven't been able to do that over the last few months. It could be a variety of factors: it could be maybe we just need to maintain that intensity, maintain that level of fitness, or maintain that level of performance right through a Test match," he added.

The 5th Test between India and England was originally scheduled to be played in Old Trafford in Manchester last year but had to be postponed due to COVID-19. India woud perhaps have wanted to close out the series last year considering they were dominant throughout and almost had a series win in their pocket.

Dravid, who was not part of India's coaching staff back then with Ravi Shastri and Virat Kohli still in charge, insisted situation of both teams were different during the series last year. However, he asserted he won't make any excuses for India's horrible show with the ball at Edgbaston.

"I don't want to make excuses. I wasn't part of the team then. India was on a roll at that stage. England were probably in a slightly different situation at that point of time. But they have come here on the back of three consecutive wins against New Zealand. We have had a long gap in between Test cricket, but no excuses," said Dravid.

Also Read: India drop below Pakistan: Updated WTC points table after England win Edgbaston Test "It's been disappointing for us. Also Read: Edgbaston Test: India succumb to new low after England chase 378 as series ends at 2-2 Dravid, who was not part of India's coaching staff back then with Ravi Shastri and Virat Kohli still in charge, insisted situation of both teams were different during the series last year.

Team India slipped to the fourth spot on the ICC World Test Championship 2021-2023 points table after their seven-wicket loss against England in the rescheduled fifth Test at Edgbaston in Birmingham. India were considered favourites to win the game ahead of the start of England's second innings in the Test match but an emphatic batting performance for the hosts saw them register a comprehensive win and draw the five-match series 2-2.

England rode on impressive unbeaten centuries from Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow to pull off their highest-ever run-chase in Test cricket as they gunned down the target of 379 runs with ease in their second innings. Indian bowlers had absolutely no answers to the brilliance of Bairstow and Root as they struggled to pick wickets resulting in an embarrassing loss for the visitors.

Apart from the average bowling performance in England's second innings, Indian batters had also failed to deliver in their second innings which resulted in the team's humiliating defeat at Edgbaston. Despite dominating the proceedings across the first three days of the Test match, India lost the plot on Day 4 as England batted them out of the game.

With the loss, India also lost the chance to improve their points tally in the World Test Championship points table as they were overtaken by Pakistan at the third spot. India were also docked a couple of points for their slow over-rate in the Edgbaston Test apart from a fine of 40% match fee.

England script history in Edgbaston: A look at records broken by Stokes & Co. with emphatic win over India

England defeated India by seven wickets in the rescheduled fifth Test at Edgbaston on Tuesday (July 05) to deny the visitors a historic Test series victory. England chased down a tricky target of 378 runs with ease riding on centuries from Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow. Root and Bairstow slammed respective tons and shared an unbeaten stand of 269 runs for the fourth wicket to take the hosts over the line.

It was an action-packed encounter filled with a lot of drama and emotions as both India and England gave their all in the all-important game. While there were several instances of players sledging each other, England pacer Stuart Broad was on the receiving end of some harsh words from the umpire Richard Kettleborough during England's first innings.

The incident happened when Broad was facing Bumrah during England's second innings and the Indian pacer bowled two back-to-back bouncers against him. Broad ducked the second bouncer which went for a four after flying over Indian wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant's head. He was then spotted having a discussion with the on-field umpire Kettleborough trying to find out if it was a second bouncer for the over.

The umpire had a brief discussion with the England pacer before reprimanding him for his antics. Kettleborough had some harsh words for Broad and was heard on the stump-mic asking him to continue focusing on his batting and not argue.

"Let us do the umpiring, you do the batting, alright?” - said Kettleborough in a video of the incident that has gone viral on social media. "Otherwise, you’re going to get into trouble again. One for the over. Broady, Broady, get on with the batting and shut up," he can be heard saying further as Broad walked back to resume his batting.

An investigation has been launched into allegations of racist abuse aimed at Indian fans during the fourth day of the fifth Test between India and England at Edgbaston, the ECB and Warwickshire County Cricket Club said. Several Indian fans took to Twitter to report the racist behaviour they endured during the fourth day's play on Monday night. They claimed that some British fans hurled racial taunts at them.

Former Yorkshire cricketer Azeem Rafiq, whose testimony to a British parliamentary committee last year led to an investigation into claims of institutional racism at Yorkshire and resulted in major reforms, retweeted some of the social media posts describing the racist behaviour. "Disappointing to read," he wrote.

The official Edgbaston Twitter account responded to Rafiq's tweet saying: "We're incredible sorry to read this and do not condone this behaviour in anyway. We'll be investigating this ASAP."

Warwickshire later released a statement, stating they are investigating the incident. "I'm gutted by these reports as we're working hard to make Edgbaston a safe, welcoming environment for all," Stuart Cain, Chief Executive at Edgbaston said.

"Having seen the initial tweets, I've spoken personally to the gentleman who raised them and we're now speaking to the stewards in this area to establish what happened.

"Nobody should be subject to any form of abuse at Edgbaston. So, once we've got all the facts, we will make sure this issue is addressed swiftly," the statement added.

Warwickshire to investigate racial abuse charge by Indian fans on day 4 of Edgbaston

Not many had given England a chance at the start of their second innings in the rescheduled fifth Test against India at Edgbaston in Birmingham as the hosts had a massive target of 378 runs in front of them to deny India a historic series win. The England batters were certainly up for the challenge and made a mockery of the Indian bowling attack to nail down the target inside just 76.4 overs and register an emphatic victory by 7 wickets.

Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow continued their purple patch at Edgbaston as they notched up a century apiece in England's second innings to help the hosts chase down 378 runs without breaking a sweat on Day 5 of the Test match. Asked to chase the huge total, England had started their second innings as far from favourites but a brilliant opening stand followed by terrific knocks from Root and Bairstow sealed a series-levelling win for them.

Openers Alex Lees (56) and Zak Crawley (46) took England off to a flying start in their second innings with a 107-run stand for the first wicket. India's stand-in skipper Jasprit Bumrah, who was leading the side in Rohit Sharma's absence, got the visitors back into the game by breaking their partnership at a crucial juncture.

Bumrah then got rid of Ollie Pope on a duck in quick succession before Lees was run-out leaving England reeling on 109/3. However, Root and Bairstow combined to put on a resilient stand and take England close to victory. After being dominated by India over the course of the first three days in the Test match, England stood just 119 runs away from victory at stumps on Day 3.

It was an incredible turnaround from the hosts as they went from being the underdogs at the start of their second innings to become the absolute favourite to win the game. On Day 5, Root and Bairstow continued from where they had left and went on to notch up their respective centuries. While Root finished unbeaten on 142 off just 173 balls, Bairstow scored 114 off 145 balls.

India dominated the proceedings right from Day 1 despite getting off to a poor start after being asked to bat first. India were struggling at 98/5 at one stage in their first innings before centurions Ravindra Jadeja (104) and Rishabh Pant (146) combined to help them fight back. Skipper Bumrah gave the finishing touches with a sensational cameo of 16-ball 31 to help India post 416 runs on the board.

Indian bowlers then produced an exceptional show with the ball during England's first innings to bundle them out for 284 runs despite Bairstow's terrific knock of 106 runs. India amassed a healthy lead of 132 runs heading into their second innings but the batters failed to capitalise.

Barring Cheteshwar Pujara (66) and Pant (57), all other Indian batters failed to get going as India could only manage 245 runs in their second innings to extend their lead to 377 runs to hand England a massive target. However, the total proved to be a cakewalk for the English batters at the end as they chased it down with seven wickets to spare to deny India a historic series win.

India were leading the five-match series 2-1 from last year and stood just one step away from scripting history as it would have been their first Test series win on English soil since 2007. Root, Bairstow slam tons as England hammer India by 7 wickets in Edgbaston Test, draw series 2-2

Former England captain Kevin Pietersen slammed premier Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah for his poor tactics with the ball during England's second innings on Day 4 of the ongoing rescheduled fifth Test between the two sides at Edgbaston. After handing England a tricky target of 378 runs in their second innings, Indian bowlers were expected to trouble the England batters and keep them at bay.

However, the hosts dominated the proceedings as the openers Alex Lees (56) and Zak Crawley (46) got the team off to a good start with a 107-run stand for the first wicket. England then went on to lose three wickets in quick succession after Crawley and Lees' partnership but Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow got the hosts back into the game with an unbeaten stand for the fourth wicket.

Indian skipper Bumrah broke the partnership between Crawley and Lees, and also sent Ollie Pope packing on a duck to revive India's chances in the game after the 107-run opening stand but he failed to find support from other Indian bowlers. Root and Bairstow continued their onslaught as India struggled to pick wickets with England cruising towards the target.

Pietersen, who is a huge admirer of Bumrah as a bowler, criticised the Indian skipper for failing to get his tactics right against Root and Bairstow during England's second innings. Pietersen reckoned it had become too easy for the England duo to steal singles and the Indian pacer didn't trouble them at all.

"I don't think Bumrah got his tactics right today at all, and I say that with the greatest deal of respect," Pietersen said on Sky Sports post stumps on Day 4.

"There is no way with a reverse swinging ball that he should make it that easy for the batter, because the batter is trying so hard to decipher which way that ball is swinging. When it's reverse swinging at 90mph, the nicest place to bat is at the non-strikers end, and the ability to get to the non-strikers end as easily as they did this afternoon, it's too easy," he added.

With England requiring only 117 runs to win on Day 5, Pietersen suggested Bumrah and the other Indian bowlers to not repeat their mistakes. Nonetheless, England remain absolute favourites to win the Test match after their solid batting display in their second innings.

"They had long off and long on, and that was pure madness. For half an hour that was pure madness. Even for the last 15-20 minutes of the day's play, pull them right in, say 'Jonny, if you're good enough to hit me over the head, please do it,' hope they don't do it tomorrow morning, but for England's sake, absolutely, let them spread them as far as they want," said Pietersen.

'Pure madness': Kevin Pietersen slams Jasprit Bumrah for poor tactics as England dominate India in 5th Test

Virat Kohli has been a livewire on the pitch during the ongoing Edgbaston Test between India and England. With last year's five-match Test series on the line, both teams have given their all so far in the rescheduled fifth Test which was postponed due to COVID-19 last year. India dominated the proceedings on the first three days of the Test match but England regained the momentum in their second innings on Day 4.

After three days of intense action, Indian batters couldn't impress much in their second innings on Day 4 as the visitors managed to post 245 runs on the board, extending their lead to 377 runs. Cheteshwar Pujara (66) and Rishabh Pant (57) were the top-scorer for India with half-centuries apiece.

Despite getting to only 245 runs in their second innings, India managed to hand a tricky target of 378 runs to England and were regarded as favourites to win the game ahead of the start of England's second innings. However, the hosts got off to a flying start as openers Alex Lees and Zak Crawley shared a 107-run stand for the first wicket.

But just when it looked like England were cruising towards the target, the momentum shifted in India's favour after Jasprit Bumrah removed Crawley and Ollie Pope in quick succession. Lees too departed quickly after Bumrah's twin strikes as he was run out by Ravindra Jadeja on 56.

England looked in troube after losing three wickets in quick succession but Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow combined in the middle to steady the ship for the hosts. While Root went on to notch up a fifty, Bairstow too is edging closer to one with the duo having already shared a stand of over 100 runs to take England cloer to the target at Edgbaston. Jasprit Bumrah has been enjoying a dream run for India in his first Test match as captain of the national team. The premier speedster has been on fire against England in the ongoing rescheduled 5th Test at Edgbaston in Birmingham. After playing a sensational cameo with the bat in India's first innings, Bumrah breathed fire with the ball during England's first innings and continued his red-hot form in the hosts' second innings on Day 4 of the Test match on Monday (July 04).

After handing England a tricky target of 378 runs in their second innings, Indian bowlers struggled to get a breakthrough on Day 4. Bumrah came to the team's rescue and drew the first blood by cleaning up opener Zak Crawley on 46 off 76 balls to deny him a fifty.

Bumrah broke the 107-run stand between Crawley and his opening partner Alex Lees to get a much-needed breakthrough for the visitors. He didn't stop there and was quick to also get rid of Lees on 56 off 65 balls next. With his twin strikes, Bumrah turned the game on its head as India regained their hold in the Test match.

Bumrah also went on to break a long-standing record of the legendary Kapil Dev with the wickets during England's second innings. The former India captain held the record for most wickets by an Indian pacer in a Test series against England with 22 scalps in the India-England series in India back in 1981-82. Bumrah has now surpassed his tally with 23 wickets in the ongoing series so far.

Most wickets for an Indian seamer vs England in a series:

23*Jasprit Bumrah in England 2021-22
22 Kapil Dev in India 1981-82
19 Bhuvneshwar Kumar in England 2014

Thanks to Bumrah's twin strikes, India gained the momentum back in the Test match after it looked for a while that England would have a walk in the park in their run chase. The hosts were soon reduced to 109/3 after Ollie Pope was run-out on a duck in the next over after Pope's departure to pile on more misery on England.

England now have Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow - arguably the two best batters in the team out in the middle with over 240 runs required to win the Test match and avoid a series loss. India were leading the five-match series 2-1 last year before the final fifth Test was postponed due to COVID-19.

The ongoing one-off Test match between the two sides will decide the fate of the series as India require a draw or win to clinch the series. If India manage to win the game, they will script history as it will be their first Test series win on English soil since 2007.

Jasprit Bumrah breaks Kapil Dev's record as he continues dream run in Edgbaston Test against England

Shreyas Iyer's struggles against the short ball were left exposed once again during India's second innings of the ongoing rescheduled fifth Test against England at Edgbaston. Iyer looked in fine touch but was dismissed cheaply on 19 off 26 balls by England pacer Matty Potts while trying to put away a short ball. Short balls have often troubled the right-hander, who has worked extensively on his weakness. However, it came back to haunt him once again in Edgbaston on Day 4 of the Test match on Monday (July 04).

Iyer's technique against short balls has been questioned several times by experts and former cricketers in the past. There is a chink in his armour and there is no one who knows it better than Brendon McCullum, the current head coach of the England Test team. McCullum worked with Iyer during IPL 2022 as the head coach of the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) while the Indian batter was leading the side.

Having observed him closely in the nets and matches, McCullum was well aware of Iyer's weakness - the short ball and immediately sent a signal to his bowlers to use the ploy against him during India's second innings on Monday. McCullum was spotted signalling the England players to use the short-ball tactic when Iyer was batting in the middle.

His advice worked in the hosts' favour as Iyer was caught by James Anderson on 19 against Potts in the 60th over after a pull shot which landed straight into the fielder's hands. The pictures of McCullum's short-ball signal to England players went viral on social media after he successfully plotted Iyer's dismissal from the dressing room.

The fate of the five-match series last year will be decided on Tuesday (July 05) as India stand just one step away from creating history. If India win or draw the Edgbaston Test, it will be their first Test series win on English soil since 2007.

Shreyas Iyer's struggles against the short ball were left exposed once again during India's second innings of the ongoing rescheduled fifth Test against England at Edgbaston.

Rishabh Pant continued his purple patch with the willow in India's second innings of the ongoing one-off fifth Test against England at Edgbaston in Birmingham. After slamming a stunning century in the first innings, the wicket-keeper batter played another brilliant knock of 57 runs in the second innings to help India extend their lead beyond the 300-run mark and take control of the game.

Pant notched up his half-century during the first session on Day 4 (Monday) as he once again displayed his power-hitting skills and played in his own swashbuckling style. He notched up his fifty off just 76 deliveries before getting dismissed by Jack Leach on 57 off 86 balls.

With his brilliant half-century, Pant broke a 72-year-old Test record held by former West Indies wicket-keeper batter Clyde Walcott. The left-hander surpassed Walcott to break the record for the highest amount of runs scored in a Test match in England by a visiting wicket-keeper. Walcott had scored a total of 182 runs in the Lord's Test against England in 1950.

Pant went past his tally after notching up a half-century in India's second innings on Day 4 of the Edgbaston Test. Pant had scored 145 runs in the first innings and followed it up with a 57-run knock in the second to amass a total of 202 runs in the Test match and go past Walcott's tally.

Pant also surpassed the tally of former India captain MS Dhoni, who had scored 151 runs against England in the Birmingham Test in 2011. He held the record for the highest total by an Indian wicket-keeper in a Test match in England but Pant has now pipped him with his brilliant knocks across the two innings at Edgbaston. Dhoni had scored 77 and 74 runs in the 2011 Test across two innings in a game that India lost.

Pant turned out to be the hero with the bat for India in their first innings in Edgbaston after the visitors were reduced to 98/5. He combined with fellow centurion Ravindra Jadeja (104) to add 222 runs for the fifth wicket and helo India post a strong total of 416 runs on the board.

India bowlers then produced an excellent combined effort to bowl out England for 284 runs in their first innings and hand the visitors a lead of 132 runs heading into their second innings. Rishabh Pant breaks 72-year-old record with terrific knocks in Edgbaston Test against England

Day 3 of the fifth and final Test between India and England started with a fiesty contest between Jonny Bairstow and Virat Kohli. Batting on 13* (61), Bairstow said something to the former Indian captain when the players were exchanging ends between overs. Kohli, not someone to keep shut, was in no mood to listen to Bairstow and gave it back to the Englishman, saying 'shut up, just stand and bat'.

Despite being at the receiving end from Kohli, the in-form Bairstow exploded after the verbal duel and smashed his next 87 runs off 58 balls to reach triple figures in a jiffy before falling for a 140-ball 106 in England's first innings (284), giving India a healthy 132-run lead. Speaking after Day 3's proceedings, Bairstow opened up on the war of words between Kohli and him and played down the battle.

"We've played against each other for a solid 10 years now, so it's a bit of craic. We're fiercely competitive on the field and that's what it's about. We're playing Test cricket, we're two competitors, that's why we play the game and that's what brings the best out of us. You want to be out there, you want to do your best and you want to win. Whatever it takes, you want to get your team over the line," Bairstow said at the press conference, terming the exchange of words as part and parcel of the game.

After stumps on Sunday, India are in a commanding position; being 125-3 with an overall lead of 257 runs with Cheteshwar Pujara (50*) and Rishabh Pant (30*) in the middle. Hence, Bairstow said England will do anything to ensure India do not run away with the game on the penultimate day. "If we nick a couple of them in the morning (on Day 4), and Stokes mentioned it at the toss, we'll have a chase and that's exactly what we'll be trying to do. We won't be shutting up shop, that's for sure," Bairstow was quoted as saying by Sky Sports.

After losing Kohli for 20 (40), India will look to post anything over 250 in their second essay to give a challenging total to Ben Stokes & Co. in a bid to win their first-ever Test series on English soil since 2007.

'We won't be shutting up...' - Jonny Bairstow opens up on verbal duel with Virat Kohli in Edgbaston Test

Virat Kohli sledged Jonny Bairstow and tried to get on his nerves during the first session on Day 3 of the ongoing rescheduled fifth Test between India and England at Edgbaston in Birmingham. England were under massive pressure at the start of Day 3 as they trailed by 322 runs after India dominated the proceedings with the bat and the ball on the first two days of the Test match.

Bairstow, who resumed the batting with captain Ben Stokes on Day 3, continued to play the Indian bowlers cautiously in the first session. Kohli tried to unsettle the English batter by sledging him on the pitch while he was batting. Things got heated up between the duo as they were involved in an argument on the field and had to be eventually separated out by the on-field umpires.

The heated exchange between the duo took place after the first ball of the 31st over bowled by senior India pacer Mohammed Shami. Kohli approached Bairstow at the non-striker's end and had some harsh words for the English batter. “Shut up. Just stand and bat," Kohli was caught telling Bairstow on the stump mic during a heated exchange between the two.

The video of Kohli sledging Bairstow went viral on social media instantly leading to mixed reactions from fans. Later, as Kohli walked back to his fielding position, Bairstow was seen signalling Kohli to keep blabbering while the Indian superstar put a finger on his lips asking Bairstow to stay quiet.

Former India head coach Ravi Shastri believes he got the job by mistake. Shastri is now back in the commentary box after his contract as the head coach of the Indian cricket team expired following the conclusion of the T20 World Cup 2021 last year. He has been replaced by the legendary Rahul Dravid, who is currently with the Indian team on their ongoing tour of England.

Shastri had taken over as the full-time head coach of the Indian team back in 2017 when he replaced Anil Kumble after India's defeat against Pakistan in the final of the Champions Trophy that year. He formed a great relationship with former captain Virat Kohli and other senior players during his tenure to take the Indian team to greater heights.

However, Shastri believes he got the job by mistake and that there is no better person than Dravid to coach the Indian team at present. Dravid, who replaced Shastri last year, has so far had to work with several different captains due to COVID-19 and injury issues after Kohli gave up captaincy across all three formats.

During a conversation with former England captains Nasser Hussain and Michael Atherton, Shastri heaped praise on Dravid, who is regarded as one of the greatest batters of all time and one of the finest coaches at present. Shastri said Dravid has done the hard yards in coaching and deserves to be the head coach of the Indian team.

“No better person to take over after me than Rahul. I got the job by mistake. I was in the commentary box and I was asked to go there and I did my bit. But Rahul is a guy who has come through the system and done the hard yards. He's been coach of the U-19 team and then he has taken over the Indian team and I think he will enjoy it, once the team starts responding to what he says,” Shastri said on Sky Sports.

Dravid's immediate job at hand is to help India win their first Test series on English soil since 2007 as the visitors are currently locking horns with England in the rescheduled fifth Test at Edgbaston. India were leading the five-match series 2-1 last year under Shastri before the final Test was postponed due to COVID-19.

Meanwhile, Shastri also opened up on his coaching stint with Team India and explained how India became a force to reckon with in Tests under him and Kohli. India won their maiden Test series in Australia in 2019 under Shastri before winning back-to-back Test series Down Under in 2021 despite missing a number of key players.

“The last thing I was worried about was media. If the boys performed, media will react the way you want. If you don't do well, they have a right to smash you and if you do well, you will get the accolades. Our job was very simple, what the media did not like about Indian cricket. The fact was that we were bullies at home and we didn't play great cricket when we were overseas," said Shastri.

"So the job for me with the team was to prove them wrong. So, how are you going to do it? You sit with the team, you sit with Virat and say that we are going to take 20 wickets. As simple as that, take the pitch out of the equation,” added the former India head coach.

Indian superstar Virat Kohli was spotted arguing with the on-field umpire after he stopped Mohammed Shami too late in his bowling stride during England's first innings on Day 2 of the ongoing rescheduled fifth Test between the two sides at Edgbaston in Birmingham. Despite having given up Test captaincy earlier this year, Kohli remains a leader in the squad and is often seen encouraging the players on the field.

The incident happened during the fourth over of England's first innings on Day 2 of the Test match when Indian pacer Mohammed Shami was bowling against Zak Crawley. Shami came steaming in for the first delivery of the over against Crawley but was stopped by on-field umpire Aleem Dar, who stuck his hand out signalling the bowler to stop.

However, the signal from the umpire came too late as Shami had already reached the crease by then and the ball was delivered to Crawley, who walked away from the stumps after noticing the umpire's signal. Kohli was not at all happy with the umpire's decision to stop Shami so late in his stride and was seen arguing with Dar.
