Earlier this year, BCCI secretary Jay Shah had hinted at the board planning to start Women's IPL next year. Shah had said BCCI is fully committed to launching Women's IPL from next year after the successful e-auction of IPL media rights for a total sum of around Rs 48,390.32 crore.

Indian batter Shreyas Iyer continued his purple patch with the willow in the second ODI against West Indies at the Queen's Park Oval in Trinidad on Sunday (July 24). Iyer slammed a brilliant knock of 63 runs off 71 balls to help India beat West Indies by two wickets in the second ODI and clinch the three-match series with an unassailable lead of 2-0.

Ahead of the start of the ODI series against West Indies, there were questions raised over Iyer's spot in India's white-ball squad and his glaring weakness against short balls. However, he has managed to spark a turnaround in the ongoing ODI series against West Indies with back-to-back fifties in the first two matches.

After scoring 54 off 57 balls in the series-opener against West Indies at the same venue, Iyer followed it up with a brilliant 63-run-knock under pressure in the second ODI. He came out to bat at number three and steered India out of trouble when the visitors were reeling at 79/3 inside 18 overs in the 312-run chase.

Iyer combined with Sanju Samson (54) to add 99 runs for the fourth wicket and take India closer to victory. Axar Patel then took India over the line in the final over with a cracking unbeaten 64 off 35 balls. With the win, India sealed the series and recorded their 12th straight ODI series win against West Indies.

He is becoming a giant in ODIs: Former India batter lauds Shreyas Iyer after his terrific knock vs West Indies

Axar Patel smashed a whirlwind unbeaten 35-ball 64, his maiden ODI fifty, as India scripted a sensational series-clinching two-wicket win over the West Indies in the second game here. Set a stiff target of 312, the visitors were down to 205 for five in 38.4 overs but Patel revived India's chase with his six-hitting prowess to take the visitors home with two balls to spare on Sunday.

Needing six off the last three balls, Patel clobbered Kyle Mayers straight over the bowlers head for a six as India took an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series. Patel smashed five sixes and three fours in his unconquered innings and added 51 off 33 balls with Deepak Hooda (33) to keep India in the hunt.

This was after Shreyas Iyer (63) and Sanju Samson (54) tried to take the chase deep with well-paced fifties. Earlier, opting to bat, Shai Hope produced a masterclass 135-ball 117, while skipper Nicholas Pooran showed his big-hitting prowess with six maximums and one four during his 74 off 77 balls as West Indies posted an impressive 311 for six.

In reply, Shubman Gill (43) looked in good touch as he hit five boundaries during his 49-ball innings to give India a decent start but captain Shikhar Dhawan (13) found the going tough at the other end. The India skipper was the first to depart with Mayers producing a stunning catch at third man off the bowling of Romario Shepherd.

Mayers then pegged India back with two quick wickets, first getting rid off a well-set Gill and then removing Suryakumar Yadav (9), who once again dragged one to his stumps. Iyer and Samson tried to take the chase deep with a 99-run partnership off 94 balls but once both departed, India still needed 105 runs from 11 overs.

It was all Patel show after that as he kept fighting despite losing Hooda and Shardul Thakur. Earlier, Hope played the role of an anchor to perfection as he added 65 runs with opener Mayers (39), before forging another 62-run stand with Shamarh Brooks (35).

Hope then found his perfect ally in skipper Pooran as the two shared a 117-run stand. Hope, who was dismissed cheaply in first ODI, hit eight fours and three maximums in his 135-ball 115-run knock.

For India, spin duo of Patel (1/40) and Hooda (1/42) were economical but Yuzvendra Chahal (1/69) was expensive as he was smashed for six sixes and two fours. Mohammed Siraj (0/47) bowled well but Avesh Khan (0/54 in 6 overs) had a forgettable ODI debut, while Thakur (3/54) made amends in the end with three wickets.

Hope looked in full flow as he played some exquisite shots on the off side before reaching the three-figure mark in his 100th ODI game with a six in the 45th over. Earlier, Mayers tore apart debutant Avesh, slamming him for successive boundaries in the fourth and sixth overs as the Indian pacer, guilty of bowling too full and short, ended up conceding 36 in his first three overs.

Thakur was not spared either as Mayers sent his first two balls for a four and a six, but Siraj kept things tight in his opening spell. Hooda produced the first breakthrough with Mayers hitting his first delivery straight back to the bowler.

Brooks and Hopes then looked to build a partnership with Hooda and Patel bowling in tandem as just 42 runs came from the 11th to 20th over.

Chahal was introduced late into the attack and was taken to the cleaners in the 21st over with Hope and Brooks smashing a six and a four. But Dhawan brought back Patel and he produced a wicket-maiden to get rid off Brooks with the Indian skipper taking a low catch.

Chahal dealt another blow with Brandon King miscuing his slog sweep as WI slipped to 130 for three.
Pooran took his time initially and then used his feet against the spinners, especially Chahal, to produce some big shots.

Hope too picked up three boundaries and also slog-swept Chahal for a six to reach his fifty. The 200 was up in 38th overs with Pooran unleashing two maximums. The West Indies skipper exploded in the 39th over with two sixes off Chahal on both sides of the ground to bring up his fifty.

Pooran, down on one-knee, also clobbered Patel for another six before sending Avesh over the ropes for his sixth maximum but Thakur bowled him around his legs to produce a crucial breakthrough.

Hope then unleashed two sixes in two balls off Chahal en route his century, while Rovman Powell (13) and Romario Shepherd (14) played some lusty blows to take the hosts across the 300-mark.

Former India head coach Ravi Shastri has made a bold claim regarding Hardik Pandya's future in ODI cricket after England all-rounder Ben Stokes shockingly retired from the fifty-over format earlier this week. Stokes announced his retirement from ODIs stating that he feels it is 'unsustainable' for him to continue playing in all three formats of the game.

Stokes' shock retirement from ODI has sparked a massive debate over the extreme workload on cricketers who play all three formats of the game these days. It has put the spotlight on the packed schedule of cricketers and how the continuous action is taking a toll on their physical and mental health.

Amid the debate over players' packed schedules, Shastri had suggested players will soon start selecting formats they want to play and walk away from the ones they don't want to feature in. Citing the example of India's star all-rounder Pandya, Shastri said he is very clear in his mind he wants to play only T20 cricket going forward.

IPL franchises urge BCCI to allow Indian players to play overseas T20 leagues after buying SA teams - Report

Following the thrilling three-run win over West Indies in the first ODI, Indian spinner Yuzvendra Chahal said that the team had confidence that Mohammed Siraj would be able to defend 15 runs in the final over. Brilliant half-centuries from Kyle Mayers and Brandon King went in vain as West Indies succumbed to a painful three-run defeat to India in the first ODI of three-match series here at Queen`s Park Oval in Trinidad on Friday.

"We had confidence and belief that Siraj could defend 15 runs in the final over because of the way he was bowling his yorkers. In his previous two overs as well, he had missed hardly one or two yorkers. There was confidence, but also pressure because of the way they (West Indies) were batting. When Sanju Samson made that save on the wide ball, it raised our confidence," said Chahal in the post-match press conference.

About his bowling plan in the match, Chahal said that he always backs his strengths. "I knew that the ball was getting old and you can beat the batter by turning it. I was changing my line and bowling wider because the leg side boundary was small. I wanted them to hit me over the covers," he added.

On his role as a senior spinner, who bowls crucial final overs for his side, the spinner said that he performed this role during the Indian Premier League 2022 where he got to bowl a lot in death overs.

"I got a lot of confidence through that. I bowl two overs after the 40-over mark. My role is clear to me. I practice in the nets accordingly and discuss my plans with the coaches," he added.

England all-rounder Ben Stokes' decision to retire from ODI cricket sent shockwaves across the cricketing fraternity. Earlier this week, Stokes took to social media to announce he will be quitting the fifty-over format as he felt it is 'unsustainable' for him to continue playing all three formats of the game. The England Test skipper played his farewell ODI game against South Africa in Durham.

England's limited-overs captain Jos Buttler said Ben Stokes' shock retirement from ODIs should serve as a wake-up call as talks grow over the packed schedule taking a toll on cricketers.
In his statement, Stokes said he felt it was 'unsustainable' for him to continue playing all three formats of the game. The star all-rounder will continue leading England in Tests having recently taken over from Joe Root as the captain in the longest format. Sokes received an emotional farewell in his final ODI appearance for England but the hosts ended up losing the game by 62 runs.

One of the best all-rounders in the world at present, Stokes played a key role in England's rise in white-ball cricket under former captain Eoin Morgan and his absence will be felt during the ODI World Cup next year. Buttler said it was a bitter-sweet feeling for him as an England fan but insisted Stokes' Test career will benefit from the decision.

"It's bittersweet as an England fan. There's a bit of sadness that Ben is no longer available in this form of the game. But our loss in ODI cricket is certainly going to be England's gain in Test cricket. That's his favoured format and his priority, especially now he's captain, and I'm sure it will give him much more longevity in the purest form of the game," Buttler said.

Former Australia captain Ricky Ponting has urged the Indian selectors and team management to stick with Virat Kohli despite his ongoing lean patch for the Indian team. Kohli has been far from his best for quite a while now and has struggled to score runs consistently in all three formats of the game. His woeful run extended in India's recently-concluded tour of England.

Kohli managed to score only 75 runs in six innings for India across all three formats against England in what was a disastrous tour for the former India captain. His poor form has also raised questions over his spot in India's T20 team with many against the idea of his inclusion in the squad for T20 World Cup 2022 later this year.

However, Ponting believes Kohli needs to be backed by India at this crucial juncture in his career. The former Australia captain said he would be fearing an Indian team that has Kohli in it if he was an opposition player or a captain.

England all-rounder Ben Stokes said cricketers are not 'cars' as he opened up on his decision to quit ODI cricket. In what came as a shock to the cricketing world, Stokes announced his retirement from the fifty-over format on Monday (July 18) confirming that he will play his final ODI against South Africa in Durham on Tuesday. Stokes said it had become 'unsustainable' for him to continue playing all three formats of the game.

Stokes has been an integral member of the England squad across all formats of the game for several years now. He is one of the best all-rounders in the world and can be dangerous with both the bat and the ball in white-ball as well as red-ball cricket. The 31-year-old was one of the heroes of England's maiden World Cup triumph in 2019.

However, Stokes felt he was no more managing to give his 100 percent to the team as far as ODIs were concerned and wanted to focus only on Tests and T20Is going forward. Opening up on his decision to quit ODIs, Stokes said it was not an easy decision but he has to look after his body amid a packed schedule in cricket.

Stokes also went on to highlight how modern-day cricket is a lot more demanding and the current schedule is taking a toll on players. He said cricketers are not cars who can be expected to perform continuously by getting refuelled.

England pacer James Anderson has dropped a major hint on his retirement amid rumours that he might quit the sport soon. One of the best fast bowlers of the generation, Anderson has been a force to reckon with for England in Test cricket and is in no mood to stop anytime soon. The veteran pacer was recently seen in action during the one-off fifth Test between India and England in Edgbaston.

Anderson was on top of his game in the Edgbaston Test and picked up a total of six wickets across India's two innings but failed to bag the prized wicket of Virat Kohli. Anderson, who has troubled some of the best batters throughout his career, has enjoyed some memorable on-field battles with Kohli.

The duo share an epic rivalry on the pitch but remain good friends off it. Anderson has dismissed Kohli seven times in Test cricket and many believed their face-off in the Edgbaston Test earlier this month was the final time they had seen the two greats go up against each other.

'I'd love to bowl at Virat Kohli again': James Anderson drops major hint on Test retirement

Virat Kohli continues to get support from all corners in the cricketing fraternity as his form remains a cause of concern for Team India. For the unversed, Kohli's century-drought continues since late 2019 and he ended India's just-concluded England tour without a single fifty across formats.

Even in IPL 2022, Kohli struggled for his 341 runs -- striking at 115.98 -- and returned with only two half-centuries. Hence, his form has kept his ardent fans worried ahead of this year's T20 World Cup. Many former cricketers have now even questioned his place, although majority have backed him. England's former captain-turned-commentator Kevin Pietersen also joined the bandwagon and backed Kohli to rediscover his form via a recent Instagram post.

Pietersen wrote: "Buddy, your career has had some of the best that have played the game only wish they could have done what you have(so far). Be proud, walk tall & enjoy life. There’s way more than just the bubble of cricket out there. You’ll be back."

Virat Kohli continues to get support from all corners in the cricketing fraternity as his form remains a cause of concern for Team India. For the unversed, Kohli's century-drought continues since late 2019 and he ended India's just-concluded England tour without a single fifty across formats.

Former England captain Nasser Hussain said Test captain Ben Stokes' shock retirement from ODIs is disappointing news to say the least. Stokes announced his decision to quit the fifty-over format on Monday (July 18) and confirmed he will play his final ODI against South Africa in Durham on Tuesday. The 31-year-old is one of the best payers England have and was one of the key members of the team across all three formats.

Stokes is regarded as one of the best all-rounders in world cricket at present and his decision to quit ODIs came as a shock to many. The England all-rounder said he decided to quit ODIs as it felt it was 'unsustainable' for him to carry on playing all three formats of the game.

England's 2019 ODI World Cup hero has dealt with mental fatigue and injuries in the recent past. Stokes had taken a mental health break from cricket last year and had also missed the T20 World Cup 2021 in the UAE. He then gave a miss to IPL 2022 and also puled out of The Hundred this year.

Reacting to his shock retirement from ODIs, Hussain blamed the packed cricket schedule which he believes is proving to be a nightmare for cricketers. Hussain said the current schedule in cricket is 'madness' for players and it's hard to cope for even the best of best like Stokes, who wants to give his all whenever he takes the field for England.

"Half the reasons (for his retirement decision) will be physical, and half will be mental, and mental in Ben's case is the fact he can't do things at 70, 80%. He's not just going to be a bit-part player, he has to do it full on and he's not willing to do it unless he does it 100 percent.

"In a way, I respect him immensely for making that decision because that's how you want every England cricketer to turn up, giving it everything every single day," he added.

Stokes was one of England's best players in the 2019 ODI World Cup where he scored 457 runs and picked up 7 wickets to play an instrumental role in helping his team lift their maiden World Cup title.
He had recently taken over as England's Test captain from Joe Root and said he wasn't able to give his 100 percent in all three formats which is why he decided to retire from ODIs. Hussain has blamed the 'absolutely crazy' cricket schedule for forcing Stokes into retiring from ODIs early in his career.

"I guess it's the schedule. The cricketing schedule is absolutely crazy at the moment. If you just play in the one format - say Test matches - it's absolutely fine," said Hussain.

"But if you're a multi-format, multi-dimensional player, and even a Test Match captain like Ben Stokes, who throws himself into his job 100% on and off the field, eventually something's going to have to give, and it looks like for Ben it is 50-over cricket which is a real shame because he gave us and England fans the greatest day for a very long time in 2019, a day we'll never forget with that World Cup final," added the former England captain.

Legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has offered to help Indian superstar Virat Kohli recover from his poor form amid his ongoing lean patch in international cricket. Kohli has struggled with the willow for Team India across all formats and has been far from consistent. His last century in international cricket came way back in November 2019 and the batting maestro has since failed to reach the triple-figure mark.

After a shambolic campaign for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 22, Kohli made his comeback for India in the team's recently-concluded tour of England. While he was expected to spark a turnaround, his woeful form continued in both Tests and limited-overs formats.

Kohli managed to score only 75 runs in six innings for India against England in what was a disastrous tour for the senior India batter. Several former cricketers and experts also raised questions over Kohli's spot in India's T20I squad ahead of the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia this year.

Amid his ongoing lean patch, Gavaskar wants to come to Kohli's rescue by offering him some crucial advice which he believes can help the senior India batter.
