Indian cricket team skipper Rohit Sharma said the team's approach in T20 cricket has changed from the time they last locked horns with Pakistan in the T20 World Cup 2021 last year. India had lost against their arch-rivals at the showpiece event to suffer their first defeat against the Men in Green in a World Cup encounter.

India had never lost a World Cup match against Pakistan before the meeting between the two sides in the UAE last year. India had won all 12 encounters between the two teams in ODI and T20 World Cups. However, Pakistan brought an end to their losing streak with an emphatic ten-wicket win in Dubai last year.

Pakistan produced an excellent effort with the ball to restrict India to a moderate total of 151 runs before captain Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan combined to chase down the target with ten wickets to spare. The duo slammed half-centuries apiece to take Pakistan home comfortably and secure the country's first win against the Men in Blue in a World Cup game.

Ahead of the meeting between the two sides in the upcoming Asia Cup 2022 in the UAE, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma expressed confidence in his team's chances citing the change in their approach.

"Asia Cup is happening after a long time, but we played Pakistan last year in Dubai, where obviously the result did not go our way. But the Asia Cup is different now. The team is playing differently and has prepared differently, so a lot of things have changed from then," said Rohit during a promotional event.

Much has changed for India since their defeat against Pakistan last year. India had failed to qualify for the knockout stage of the T20 World Cup 2021 following which Virat Kohli stepped down as captain to hand over reign to Rohit. Former head coach Ravi Shastri has also been replaced by the legendary Rahul Dravid at the helm.

Under Rohit's captaincy, India have been phenomenal so far in T20Is and are yet to lose a T20I series having won seven on the trot. The team has also adapted an agressive approach in their batting while the bowling line-up has also undergone some notable changes.

Explaining his strategy for the Asia Cup 2022, Rohit said India won't focus on a single opposition but will be aiming to go the distance as a team. Rohit had led India to a memorable triumph during the last edition of the tournament in 2018 and will be hoping to repeat the feat this year.

"My thought has always been that we will not focus on the opponent, but we will continue to play our game. We played against West Indies, England and in both cases, we did not think about who our opposition was, but we focused on things that we had to do as a team and what we had to achieve," said Rohit.

"Similarly, in the Asia Cup, our focus will be on what to achieve as a team and not think about who we are facing - be it Pakistan, Bangladesh or Sri Lanka," he added.

"But for us, we need to assess the conditions, keep in mind the fact that we will be playing in 40-plus degrees. We need to assess all those factors and prepare accordingly," he added.

Former Indian cricket team captain Virat Kohli is one of the most popular cricketers of the current generation and is widely regarded as one of the best batters of the present era. Kohli has been one of the most consistent performers for the Indian team across formats in international cricket and has shattered several records with his remarkable performances over the years.

Kohli stressed the importance of focusing on mental health for young athletes as they have to constantly deal with pressure and expectations. Kohli, who has himself faced several highs and lows in his career so far, revealed he has had to deal with numerous difficult phases and there was a point when he felt alone despite being surrounded by his loved ones.

The senior Team India batter believes sport brings the best out of a player but at the same time dealing with the staggering amount of pressure can have an adverse effect on the mental health of athletes. The Indian captain has himself had to deal with intense criticism over the past couple of years due to his ongoing lean patch with the willow.

"For an athlete, the sport can bring the best out of you as a player but at the same time, the amount of pressure that you are constantly under, can affect your mental health negatively. It is definitely a serious issue and as much as we try to be strong at all times, it can tear you apart," Kohli told The Indian Express.

Kohli has not been on top of his game for a while now as he continues to struggle for runs across formats. Kohli was once known for his incredible consistency and kept notching up centuries for fun, however, things have gone haywire for the former skipper in the last couple of years.

Despite being under constant scrutiny, Kohli has managed to stay strong and is expected to bounce back soon. He is currently enjoying a break and will be back in action in the upcoming Asia Cup 2022. Recalling the difficult situations he had to face, Kohli said mental health is as important as physical fitness for an athlete.

"I personally have experienced times when even in a room full of people who support and love me, I felt alone, and I am sure that this is a feeling that a lot of people can relate to. So, take out time for yourself and reconnect with your core self. If you lose that connection, it wouldn’t take very long for other things to crumble around you."

"You need to learn how to compartmentalise your time so that there’s balance. It takes practice like anything else in life, but it’s something worth investing in, that’s the only way to feel a sense of sanity and enjoyment while doing your work," he added.

KL Rahul is all set to make his comeback to international cricket in India's upcoming ODI series against Zimbabwe. He was last seen in action during the qualifier of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 where he was leading Lucknow Super Giants. Rahul underwent surgery for sports hernia post the IPL and missed the South Africa series at home.

He also had to miss India's tour of England amid his recovery and was set to make his return during India's tour of the West Indies. However, he was ruled out after contracting COVID-19 and is now set to make his comeback in the ODI series against Zimbabwe that gets underway on Thursday (August 18).

Rahul was appointed as the captain of the Indian team for the Zimbabwe series in the eleventh hour as he replaced Shikhar Dhawan as the stand-in skipper after his availability was confirmed by the BCCI. It will be Rahul's second series as captain and the star batter is ready for the challenge.

Rahul might have led India only in a handful of matches so far, but he has plenty of experience as a captain having led for three seasons now in the IPL. Rahul has emerged as a very calm and collective leader, possessing similar traits to the likes of MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma, who are known for similar approach.

When asked if he had a similar style to the likes of Dhoni and Rohit, Rahul played down the comparisons and said he can't be put in the same bracket as the duo as he is still young while they have far greater achievements under their belt.

"I don't know. I don't compare, personally. The names (MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma), I can't even compare myself as a leader with these guys because their numbers or achievements are far greater and what they have done for the country, I don't think anyone should be put in the same breath," Rahul said in the pre-match presser ahead of 1st ODI against Zimbabwe.

"For me, I am still young and this is my second series as captain. Obviously, I have played under them and learned a lot from them and as players and as guys in the team, you learn from each other over the years. I have a picked up a few qualities from these guys," he added.

Rahul's captaincy stint was off to a poor start as he lost all four matches as captain during India's tour of South Africa earlier this year. However, he remains the designated vice-captain in white-ball cricket and is part of India's leadership group. Rahul believes in staying true to himself as a leader and allowing his players to express themselves.

"A captain has to be true to himself, then it spreads to the players. I am a calm person and I can't go out there and try to be something else. I believe that is not fair to myself and to the team and to the game. I try to be myself in the best way possible. You try to let other players be themselves and express themselves," said the stylish batter.

Rahul will be hoping to make a strong comeback for the Indian team in the upcoming three-match series in order to prepare well for the Asia Cup 2022 later this month. He is likely to open the batting with skipper Rohit in Asia Cup which gets underway in the UAE later this month.

Former Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar blasted Marcus Stoinis after the Australian all-rounder accused Pakistan pacer Mohammad Hasnain of chucking in the ongoing The Hundred tournament. Stoinis, who is playing for the Southern Brave in The Hundred seemingly accused Oval Invincibles' pacer Hasnain of chucking with a hand gesture during the clash between the two sides on Sunday.

The incident happened after Stoinis was dismissed by Hasnain on 37 off 27 balls. The Australian all-rounder was not happy after his dismissal and expressed his frustration by suggesting that the bowler was chucking. On his way back to the dugout, Stoinis was seen imitating Hasnain's bowling action trying to accuse him of chucking.

Stoinis was slammed by many for his gesture, including Akhtar, who lashed out at the Aussie star and called his gesture shameful. Akhtar said no player should be allowed to accuse a bowler of chucking when his action has been cleared by the ICC.

Intravenous drips, which were previously considered to be the last resort for those athletes suffering from anaemia and/or severe hydration issues, are seemingly threatening to become the norm among athletes in world sports. Medical experts and physiologists have come out in hordes to warn athletes against placing their trust in a practice that may not have any benefits as there is hardly any strong evidence to back the same.

Some footballers, basketball players and baseball players playing for some of the biggest clubs in Europe and the Americas have taken up the practice of intravenous drips, using them multiple times a week as part of their pre or post-game routine.

However, there is currently no evidence to support this theory.

The excessive use of this practice forced a legion of doctors, some belonging to Premier League bigwigs Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United, to urge players to maintain a healthy diet before pricking themselves with needles for nutrition.

While there are no hard stats revealing exactly how many athletes rely on IV drips, anecdotal evidence accumulated by the British Journal of Sports Medicine suggests that some players use them before or after every match, with blood work of a myriad of athletes revealing an excess of nutrients associated with the said drips.

"IVN [nutrition] products are often used as a means of addressing tiredness, fatigue, or recovery, but the evidence is sparse and not supportive. The long-term effects of supratherapeutic doses of B vitamins and other nutrients are unknown in athletes. It does not appear to be worth the risk, especially given the lack of evidence-based benefits," read the study conducted by the British Journal of Sports Medicine.

The practice which was once exclusive to costly clinics is now readily available, with some companies offering the service of home delivery. Medical experts have warned of multiple side effects that can be caused by extensive use of IV drips, including but not exclusive to, long-term liver and nerve damage.

Ravindra Jadeja is reportedly on the verge of leaving Chennai Super Kings (CSK) after falling out with the team management. Jadeja was removed as the captain of the franchise midway through the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 season earlier this season having taken over the baton from MS Dhoni ahead of the start of their campaign.

The star India all-rounder has reportedly not been in touch with the CSK management since leaving the team hotel during IPL 2022 in May this year. Jadeja was ruled out due to an elbow injury and has since severed all ties with the franchise while also deleting all CSK-related posts from his social media accounts.

As per a report in the Times of India, Jadeja is set to leave CSK unless something miraculous happens in the next couple of months. The all-rounder has been completely 'out of touch' with the CSK management and had taken the decision to take away captaincy from him as an 'insult'.

While the team didn't get off to an ideal start, Jadeja's personal performances were far from good. "Once you become captain, it means a lot of demands come in. But it affected his mind as the tasks grew. I think captaincy burdened his prep and performances," Dhoni had said during IPL 2022 after returning as CSK captain following Jadeja's ouster.

BCCI surprised one and all by naming KL Rahul as India's captain for the upcoming Zimbabwe tour, which comprises three ODIs. Interestingly, Shikhar Dhawan was assigned the captain's role but Rahul was given the role after he was declared fit and became a part of the squad.

It is to be noted that the BCCI selection committee didn't mention the possibility of Rahul's inclusion -- who is India's regular vice-captain -- being subject to fitness test when they had initially annouced the squad. Thus, many former cricketers criticised BCCI's move of demoting Dhawan as the vice-captain and making Rahul in-charge after the initial announcement.

Sharing his thoughts on the same, Dhawan said in the pre-match post conference: "It is a very good news that KL is back and will be leading the side as well. He is one of the main players of this Indian team. It will be a good outing for him before the Asia Cup gets underway. I am sure he will gain a lot from this tour."

The vice-captain further added, "I quite enjoy sharing my experience with the youngsters in the team. I first came here in 2014 (actually 2013), when Duncan Fletcher was the Indian coach. If they (youngsters) reach out to me for any suggestions, I am (always) there to answer them."

Dhawan, who only plays ODIs for Team India, will be eager to make the most of his opportunities in the three ODIs versus the African nation, which gets underway on August 18.

Former England cricket team captain Nasser Hussain believes the game would lose something fundamental if T20 franchise cricket is the only option the fans have in the future. Hussain has highlighted the glaring issues in the current trend of players prioritising T20 franchise cricket over international formats and believes Test and ODIs can't be compromised at any cost.

Cricket is currently facing an existential crisis as the debate has intensified over the packed schedule of cricketers, who play all three formats of the game. Several former cricketers and experts believe franchise T20 cricket is the future and that bilateral ODIs should be done away with to reduce the workload of players.

The likes of Ben Stokes and Quinton de Kock giving up one international format to prolong their careers have also put the spotlight on the schedule of cricketers. However, with New Zealand pacer Trent Boult's decision to opt out of a central contract and play limited international cricket to spend time with his family, the concerns over the future of Tests and ODIs have grown.

Boult has opted for the decision to spend time with his family and play less international cricket. A decision which might have been taken considering the fact he can still make millions playing lesser round the year in a couple of T20 leagues around the globe. He might not be the last international star to do so as many might opt to play in T20 franchise leagues for lucrative contracts while compromising on international cricket in the future.

"My overall view, though, is that everything needs to be in proportion. For me, first-class county cricket is the starter, Test cricket the main course, and all the white-ball stuff the pudding — enjoyable and moreish," Hussain wrote in his column for Daily Mail.

"But — and it’s a big but — you don’t want to be eating pudding every night of the week for the rest of your life. And that’s where the game has an issue," he wrote further.

Hussian expressed his concerns over white-ball cricket getting hold of players at the start of their careers and making superstars out of them for their little 10-12-ball cameos in T20s. Hussain drew a comparison between veteran Kieron Pollard, who has retired from international cricket but continues to play T20 leagues and South African youngster Tristan Stubbs - who recently slammed a stunning 10-ball 27 for his team in The Hundred and grabbed the limelight.

"One area of concern is the extent to which white-ball cricket is now getting hold of players at the start of their careers. It used to be the case that older players would ride off into the T20 sunset, and make a bit of cash before calling it a day," wrote Hussain.

"Ten balls and four sixes are all you need to become box-office, and attract the IPL owners. If you’re starting your career now, there is a direct route — if you’re talented enough — to making a million. I don’t blame the players for choosing it," he added.

The FTP, which includes matches in the next two cycles of the nine-team ICC World Test Championship (WTC), sees an increase in the number of matches across all three formats compared to the previous cycle that ran from 2019-23. The FTP is the result of a collective effort of Members with ICC`s support and is designed to provide clarity around the calendar.

Each Member`s FTP is based on collective bilateral and mutual agreements and may vary in accordance with each Member`s overall cricketing and commercial programs. The 2023-27 FTP has over 770 matches. In addition to bilateral cricket, this four-year cycle will witness a single edition each of the Men`s Cricket World Cup and Champions Trophy, and two editions each of the Men`s T20 World Cups and WTC finals.

Test teams outside the WTC have also scheduled a substantial number of bilateral Test matches in an effort to boost playing opportunities in cricket`s traditional multi-day format. The first-ever women`s FTP was announced on Tuesday, which will see over 300 matches played during the 2022-25 period. The media release issued on the Women`s FTP is available here.

"I`d like to thank our Members for the effort that has gone into creating this FTP for the next four years. We are incredibly lucky to have three vibrant formats of the game, with an outstanding programme of ICC global events and strong bilateral and domestic cricket and this FTP is designed to allow all cricket to flourish," ICC GM of Cricket Wasim Khan said.

"The landscape around the game is continuing to evolve and we will work closely with Members as we collectively adapt to that. We are committed to growing the game and giving more fans more opportunities to enjoy cricket, but are very mindful of the need to balance that ambition with the welfare of players. The exact dates and venues of matches outside of ICC events is for the Members to announce in due course," he added.

ALSO READ: 'If someone has been...' - Md Kaif reacts to Rahul replacing Dhawan as India captain for Zimbabwe ODIs The FTP, which includes matches in the next two cycles of the nine-team ICC World Test Championship (WTC), sees an increase in the number of matches across all three formats compared to the previous cycle that ran from 2019-23. ICC announce men's international calendar for 2023-27, India to play Tests against Australia and England

Former India captain Kapil Dev has urged the ICC to protect ODI and Test cricket amid the growing popularity of T20 cricket and the mushrooming of T20 leagues across the globe. Several top franchise leagues have mushroomed in major cricketing nations over the last few years as T20 cricket continues to gain major eyeballs.

The 1983 World Cup-winning captain believes cricket is going the football way in promoting franchise cricket over international cricket. The legendary all-rounder believes playing for the country should still be the priority for the players and the T20 leagues should not damage the reputation of traditional formats like Test and ODI.

The future of ODIs has become a topic of huge debate after England all-rounder Ben Stokes recently announced his retirement from the fifty-over format. Several former cricketers believe ODIs should either be scrapped or changes should be brought to revitalise the format.

Many also believe ICC should reduce the amount of bilateral cricket the teams are playing in order to ensure the payers can manage their workload in a better way. After Stokes, New Zealand pacer Trent Boult recently pulled out of the country's central contract to reduce the amount of international cricket he will be playing going forward.

Meanwhile, IPL is all set to be getting a bigger window from next year while England and Australia will also have dedicated windows for The Hundred and the Big Bash League. UAE and South Africa will also launch their own T20 leagues further cramping the cricket calendar.

Amid the rising popularity of franchise cricket, Kapil questioned if the players will only play the World Cup once every four years and then continue playing franchise cricket around the globe. The former India captain wants ICC to ensure the future of Tests and ODIs is safe.

"It's going the way as football in Europe. Is this what we're going to have, the World Cup and the rest of the time playing club (T20 franchise) cricket? In a similar way, will cricketers eventually be playing mainly the IPL or the Big Bash or something like that," Kapil told the Sydney Morning Herald.

"The ICC have to put more time into that to see how they can ensure the survival of one-day cricket, test match cricket, not only club cricket," Kapil added.

Indians across the world are celebrating as today (August 15, 2022) marks 75 years of India's independence. India declared freedom from British colonial rule on August 15 in 1947 and the country has since gone on to achieve some remarkable feats in different fields to emerge as one of the global leaders.

While the national flag was hoisted and the national anthem was played across the nation to mark the occasion, several cultural events were also conducted in various parts of the country. Wishes also poured in on social media from across the globe as Indians celebrated the day with great enthusiasm.

While the Indian cricket fraternity took to social media to extend their wishes on Independence Day, former England cricket team captain Kevin Pietersen also sent across a special message in Hindi. Pietersen, whose love for India is a secret to none, urged Indians to stand tall while wishing the country a brighter future.

'Be proud and stand tall': Kevin Pietersen sends special message in Hindi as India celebrates Independence Day

The legendary Ricky Ponting has lavished praise on Team India's star batter Suryakumar Yadav hailing him for his ability to play shots 360 degrees around the ground. The former Australia skipper believes Surykumar should be India's number four at the upcoming T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia this year.

Suryakumar has been a prolific run-getter for India in limited-overs cricket ever since making his debut for the Men in Blue last year. He was selected in India's squad for the T20 World Cup 2021 last year owing to his consistency, however, the right-hand batter failed to live up to the expectations as India bowed out from the group stage.

However, he has once again been consistent with the willow in the run-up to the T20 World Cup in Australia later this year and looks set to be part of India's squad for the showpiece event. Ponting believes Suryakumar should be part of India's playing XI if he is picked and that fans in Australia will enjoy his batting.

"He's a very, very exciting player and I'm sure someone that's going to find himself in their team, not just their squad," Ponting said on the latest episode of The ICC Review.

"I think you'd find him in their team for the T20 World Cup. And if he's in that team, then I think all the fans in Australia are going to see a very, very good player. He's quite a confident person. He backs himself and he's never going to step down from a challenge or any situation that arises in a game. I feel he thinks he can win that situation and therefore go on and win the game for his team," the former Australia captain added.

Ponting went on to compare Suryakumar with South African great AB de Villiers, who was known for his wide range of shots. The former Australia captain believes Surykumar has a similar range as a batter and can play a variety of strokes to send the ball to all parts of the ground.

"Surya (Yadav) scores 360 degrees around the ground, a bit like an AB de Villiers did when he was in his actual prime. The lap shots, the late cuts, you know, the ramps over the keeper's head. He can hit down the ground," Ponting said.

"He hits really well over the leg side, flicks to deep backward square particularly well, and he's a good player of fast bowling and is a good player of spin bowling," he added.

Suryakumar has so far played 13 ODIs and 23 T20Is for India, amassing 340 and 672 runs in the two formats respectively. He averages 37.33 in T20Is and has struck at an impressive 175.45. Suryakumar is also among the elite list of batters to have scored a century for India in T20Is.

Former Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar has made yet another bold claim stating that he wasn't aware of Sachin Tendulkar's stature before coming up against him in international cricket. Tendulkar, who is regarded as one of the greatest batters of all time, enjoyed some fierce duels with Akhtar during his playing days.

Tendulkar was already a big name in world cricket and had established his credentials as one of the best in the game by the time Akhtar made his debut for Pakistan in 1997. The India legend at the time was taming the best bowling attacks in the world and piling on runs consistently across formats.

However, recently speaking in a video shared by Star Sports, Akhtar claimed he was unaware of Tendulkar's stature as he used to be 'lost in his own world'. Akhtar, who is one of the quickest bowlers to have played the game, said he only knew what the batter was thinking and what he would do.

Tendulkar and Akhtar crossed swords on the field on several occasions while representing their respective teams and dominated each other. While Akhtar holds the record for bowling the fastest delivery in international cricket, Tendulkar remains the leading run-getter of all time in international cricket.

The two shared an epic rivalry on the pitch as India and Pakistan used to meet regularly during their playing days. However, the two countries have not played any bilateral cricket since 2013 due to political tensions between the nations. India and Pakistan continue to meet only in major ICC tournaments.

Speaking of the India-Pakistan rivalry, Akhtar explained how the Pakistani fast bowlers were different compared to the Indian pacers in the past. The Rawalpindi Express said Pakistani pacers used to look for excuses to bowl fast and he himself never missed out on an opportunity to have a go at the opposition with the ball.

“The big difference between your fast bowlers and ours was that we used to look for excuses to bowl fast. Whenever I used to realise that the ball is reverse-swinging, I thought, 'If I get a spell here, I will run through the batters'. I will just take the five wickets there and win the match for Pakistan. You can't be a star without being a match-winner. We used to win games for the country,” Akhtar said.

Kohli, who is currently on a break, will return to action for the Men in Blue in the tournament and will be hoping to bounce back to form. Kohli has endured a lean patch in international cricket for a while now and has not scored a century for the Indian team for almost three years now.

Kohli was last seen in action for the Indian team during their tour of England earlier this year. He had a disastrous run with the willow as the former India skipper flopped across all three formats of the game.

Amid his poor form, Board Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Sourav Ganguly has backed the senior batter to roar back to form. Ganguly urged Kohli to practice more and play more matches while expressing confidence in his abilities.

“Let him practice, let him play matches. He is a big player and has scored plenty of runs. I am hopeful that he will make a comeback. He is just not being able to score a century and I believe he will find his form in the Asia Cup,” Ganguly was quoted as saying by India Today.

Kohli has been a prolific run-getter in the Asia Cup over the years, averaging over 60 in the tournament. The former India skipper had missed the last edition of the tournament in 2018 when Rohit Sharma led India to a memorable title triumph after a win over Bangladesh in the final.

India will open their campaign against arch-rivals Pakistan and will be hoping to get off to a winning start. The Men in Blue had lost against Pakistan in the last meeting between the two sides at the T20 World Cup 2021 last year and will be hopeful of avenging their defeat this time around.

While the players will undoubtedly be under massive pressure in the high-profile clash, Ganguly believes the much-awaited encounter should be seen as just another game.

"I am seeing it as the Asia Cup. I do do not see any tournament as India vs Pakistan. When I used to be in my playing days, India vs Pakistan was just another match for me. I always looked to win the tournament," said the former India captain.

Ravindra Jadeja's stint with four-time Indian Premier League (IPL) champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) seems to be coming to an abrupt end as the Indian all-rounder has reportedly severed all ties with the franchise. Jadeja was asked to step down from captaincy midway through the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 after the team's poor start and the move didn't go down well with the star all-rounder.

Jadeja was handed over the captaincy baton by MS Dhoni ahead of the start of IPL 2022. However, the defending champions got off to a woeful start and managed to win only two of their first eight matches before Dhoni had to be reappointed as the skipper of the side.

While Jadeja has not spoken about CSK's decision to remove him from captaincy yet, his recent activities on social media have indicated he is not happy with the CSK team management. The all-rounder has deleted all CSK-related posts from social media and has reportedly not been in touch with the team management since IPL 2022's conclusion in May this year.

According to a report in the Times of India, Jadeja is likely to leave Chennai Super Kings unless something miraculous happens in the next couple of months. As per the report, the all-rounder has been completely 'out of touch' with the franchise since he left IPL 2022 midway due to a rib injury.

While CSK skipper Dhoni had said the decision to remove Jadeja from captaincy was taken to remove the burden off his shoulder as it was affecting his performances, the all-rounder reportedly took it as an 'insult'. As per the report, CSK has not been able to sort out the difference with the all-rounder, who has been with the franchise since 2012.

Jadeja has won two IPL titles with CSK since joining the team in 2012. He played for Gujarat Lions in 2016 and 2017 when CSK were banned from the competition. The Indian all-rounder is a vital cog in the CSK line-up and has played an instrumental role in their success since 2018. However, he is unlikely to continue with the four-time champions from the next season.

As per the Times of India, things could escalate if a franchise submits a trade proposal for Jadeja. The all-rounder will then have to sit with the CSK management and decide on his future. The franchise might try to convince him to stay in what can be a last-ditch effort.

Dhoni's role will be crucial as he has had a huge role to play in Jadeja's career so far both at the international level and in the IPL. With Dhoni set to lead CSK once again next year, it's unlikely that Jadeja will be reappointed as captain but CSK might try to convince him to stay on and sort out the differences.

India are all set to lock horns with Pakistan in a marque clash in the upcoming Asia Cup 2022 which gets underway later this month. India have dominated their arch-rivals over the years in the premier competition and will be aiming to continue their stellar run against the Men in Green when they meet in Dubai on August 28.

The last meeting between the arch-rivals saw Babar Azam-led Pakistan thrash India by ten wickets at the T20 World Cup 2021 in the UAE to bring an end to their 29-year-long wait for their first win in a World Cup encounter against the Men in Blue. Pakistan had lost 12 matches against India in ODI and T20 World Cups before registering their maiden win last year.

Ahead of the high-profile Asia Cup clash between the two cricketing giants, former Pakistan pacer Aaqb Javed has explained why Rohit Sharma & Co. will be favourites to win against the Men in Green. Analysing the strengths and weaknesses of the two teams, Javed said India will hold an edge over Pakistan due to their experienced batting line-up.

“The difference between the two teams lies in their batting. India's batting is still more experienced. If a batter like Rohit Sharma clicks, he can single-handedly win the match for India. Similarly with Fakhar Zaman," Javed said on Paktv.tv.

The former Pakistan pacer also pointed out how Babar & Co. still don't have a quality pace bowling all-rounder like Hardik Pandya, who can be the difference between the two teams in the blockbuster clash. Hardik has been in fine form with the bat and ball ever since making his comeback for India earlier this year.

"If he plays with control, he can win the match for Pakistan. But the middle-order line-up of India and Pakistan, that's the difference. Also their all-rounder, that makes a difference. Because Pakistan does not have a Hardik Pandya like all-rounder,” Javed explained.

Former New Zealand national cricket team star Ross Taylor recently sent the cricketing community into a frenzy by levelling allegations of getting slapped by one of the owners of his previous IPL team, Rajasthan Royals. His claims were recently addressed by a BCCI official, who said that he was unaware of the incident.

Taylor offered fans some insight into the time he was slapped by one of the owners of the franchise in his recently released autobiography, 'Black & White.' He recalled the time he had gotten out for duck during a steep chase against Kings XI Punjab, now known as Punjab Kings.

He subsequently revealed that the team's owners did not take too kindly to the result, slapping him across the face 'three or four times'. He admitted that although the owner played it off as a joke and the slaps weren't particularly hard, it did not seem like the kind of thing that would take place in any other professional sporting environment across the world.

In a recent interaction with the media, a representative of the BCCI addressed these claims, admitting that he had no knowledge of this incident ever taking place. It is essential to note that the comment was seemingly made in haste as the BCCI rep was preoccupied with travel. "I am on the road travelling now so I do not know exactly what you are talking about," said the official.

From facing racism in the team's dressing room to getting slapped by the Rajasthan Royals team owner, former New Zealand batter Ross Taylor has made some stunning revelations in his autobiography - 'Ross Taylor: Black & White'. Taylor has also recalled several interesting anecdotes in his book, including one about his coffee outing with India legend Rahul Dravid which went wrong.

Taylor shared the dressing room with Dravid in the Indian Premier League (IPL) when they played together for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) for the first three seasons. The former Kiwi batter became Dravid's teammate once again when he was roped in by Rajasthan Royals in 2011.

While cricketers mostly live a normal life in New Zealand, the same can't be said about India where the players are treated as demigods and enjoy massive popularity in every nook and corner of the country. Taylor got his first taste of what it is like to be an Indian cricketer when he and former South Africa spinner Johan Botha took Rahul Dravid out for a coffee and ended up getting stuck in a mall in Jaipur, Rajasthan.

Taylor was part of the Rajasthan Royals squad along with Dravid and Botha at the time. In his book, the former New Zealand batter revealed how Botha and he asked Dravid to go out with them for a coffee when the team was in Jaipur. They ended up going to a mall which was packed within two minutes as fans queued up to get a glimpse of the Indian legend. The mall security had to be called to escort the trio out.

"The South African off-spinner Johan Botha and I were sitting next to Rahul Dravid at breakfast in Jaipur. We asked him if he wanted to go for a coffee; he didn’t really, but we twisted his arm. We got a cab to a five-storeyed mall. We hadn’t taken any security with us, which was naive. Within two minutes the mall was packed – there were at least 4,000 people – and we had to get mall security to extract us,” Taylor wrote in his book.

The former New Zealand batter further recalled how he and Botha apologised to Dravid, who was unfazed by the incident and remained the gentleman that he is. Dravid told the duo they might have not faced such a crowd had they been in a bigger city like Mumbai where people are used to seeing celebrities regularly.

“I’m sure Rahul saw it coming, but he was too polite to turn us down. “Botes” and I were profusely apologetic on the way back to the hotel. Rahul played it down with his usual class, saying we probably would’ve been okay in a bigger city like Mumbai but, in the smaller cities, they didn’t see big-name cricketers that often. Jaipur’s population is around four million. After that, coffee with Dravid was always in the hotel," Taylor wrote.

One of the best batters to have played for New Zealand, Taylor played seven seasons in the IPL. He amassed 1017 runs in 55 matches at a strike rate of over 123 and an average of 25.43. He made his last appearance in IPL in 2014 as the Kiwi great failed to land a contract thereafter.

Sachin Tendulkar is often credited to have made India fall in love with cricket with his batting heroics during his playing days. One of the greatest batters of all time, Tendulkar made a mockery of some of the best bowling attacks in the world to notch up almost every record in international cricket.

The only man with 100 international centuries under his belt, Tendulkar scored his first ton against England today (August 14), in 1990. It was the start of a special era in Indian cricket as Tendulkar would go on to smash 99 more hundreds and do the unthinkable. He was the first to achieve the remarkable feat of 100 international tons and remains the only batter to do so.

His first century came during a Test match against England at Old Trafford in Manchester. After scoring 68 runs in India's first innings, the Master Blaster followed it up with a brilliant knock of 119 runs in the visitors' second innings to help them draw the Test and reach the triple-figure mark for the first time in international cricket.

Sachin was just 17 years and 112 days old at the time and became the third-youngest player to score a ton in international cricket. It took the batting legend eight Test matches to notch up his first century for India and there was no looking back from there as he went on to complete 100 tons in international cricket.

Tendulkar made his debut for India in a Test match against arch-rivals Pakistan in November 1989 and was quick to establish his credentials as one of the most prodigious batting talents in the world at the time. He took little time to settle at the highest level and let his bat do the talking against the best bowlers in the world.

While he is the only batter with 100 international centuries to his name, Tendulkar is also the leading run-getter of all time in international cricket. He played 200 Tests, 463 ODIs and 1 T20I for India, amassing 15,921, 18,426 and 10 runs in the three formats respectively.

Team India superstar Virat Kohli has been struggling with the willow for quite a while now and has been on the receiving end of intense criticism from former cricketers and experts amid his woeful form. Kohli, who is regarded as one of the greatest batters of the generation, has not scored an international century for almost three years now and has failed to score runs consistently.

Kohli has been one of the most consistent batters across formats in the past decade but his recent slump in form has seen many raise questions over his spot in India's T20I squad ahead of the T20 World Cup. His failure to bounce back despite being backed by the team management has also been criticised by many.

However, Zimbabwe batter Sikandar Raza has backed Kohli to roar back to form soon and lauded the senior India batter for the contributions he has made to world cricket. Raza said the way Kohli has popularised fitness as the way forward in cricket and has been consistent across all three formats is commendable.

"As much as cricket was all about fitness and xyz, the way he took that part forward for the younger generations to follow, I think that is commendable and people should give him enough credit for that. I feel like he is the ultimate all-format player and that has nothing to do with stats, what he has achieved, what he is going through, and what is he going to achieve; I am just speaking in general," Raza said on Anis Sajan's YouTube channel.

When asked what advice would he like to give Kohli, who didn't enjoy the best of outings with the nat in India's recently-concluded tour of England, Raza said he is not knowledgeable enough to advise a guy with over 20,000 runs in international cricket. Raza asked Kohli's critics to leave him alone and let him regain his touch.

"I don't think I am knowledgeable enough or experienced enough to give a guy advice who has over 20,000 career runs. What do I tell him? I can't tell him anything. If anything, I can stay silent and also reckon people to do the same and let the guy live in peace. Just leave him alone and hopefully, he will soon find his feet," Raza added.

Raza will be in action for Zimbabwe in their upcoming three-match ODI series against Zimbabwe which gets underway from August 18. Kohli is not part of India's squad as he has been rested for the series and will return to action in the upcoming Asia Cup 2022 later this month.

The legendary Sunil Gavaskar had recently responded to Adam Gilchrist's plea of allowing Indian players to take part in the overseas cricket leagues. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has a strict stance when it comes to Indian players taking part in overseas leagues as active players are barred from doing so.

Only retired players can venture overseas and play T20 leagues around the globe. While the Indian Premier League (IPL) features players from across the globe excluding only Pakistan, Indian stars are not allowed to play overseas leagues like the Big Bash League, The Hundred and the Caribbean Premier League among others.

Former Australia wicket-keeper batter Adam Gilchrist had recently urged the BCCI to allow the Indian players to take part in overseas leagues. Gilchrist, who is regarded as one of the best wicket-keeper batters of all time, had also expressed his concerns over IPL teams buying franchises in different T20 leagues around the globe.

Gavaskar issued a hard-hitting response to Gilchrist's plea suggesting there is nothing wrong with some former overseas players wanting Indian players in their leagues to increase sponsorships and fan base but pointed out how BCCI's decision to protect its cricket by not allowing Indians to take part in other leagues around the world is criticised.

"Some overseas former players have said that the Indian players should be allowed to play the Big Bash or the Hundred. Basically, they want their leagues to have more sponsorship etc. They are concerned about their cricket, which is totally understandable. But when Indian cricket looks to protect its cricket by ensuring that their players stay fresh for their matches and thus restricting them from playing overseas, that is not acceptable to the guys from the ‘old powers,’ Gavaskar wrote in his column for Sportstar.

The former India captain also slammed the hypocrisy when it comes to the recruitment of the coaching staff in overseas leagues pointing out how IPL at one point had a host of support staff from Australia across various teams but when it comes to overseas leagues like BBL and The Hundred, the sight of an Indian in the coaching setup is a rarity.

"They are talking only about the Indian players being made available for their country’s leagues but not the support staff or others who also can do a wonderful job as the cricketing world has found out over the last half dozen years or so. The IPL, for a while, ran the danger of being called the Australian league with not just the Aussie players dominating the composition of the teams but the coaches and support staff too. It’s never a two-way street for the ‘old powers’ of cricket," he asserted.

Gavaskar gives hard-hitting response to Gilchrist's plea of allowing Indian players to play in foreign leagues

Indian cricketer Rishabh Pant has seemingly responded after Bollywood actress Urvashi Rautela's recent interview where she spoke about her meeting with a person, who she referred to as 'RP'. Link-up rumours between Indian cricket stars and Bollywood celebrities are nothing new as several cricketers have even married Bollywood actresses and are well-settled.

However, Urvashi and Pant's story has been garnering headlines for all the wrong reasons for a while now. The rumours of the two dating had floated back in 2018, however, they didn't last too long as reports suggested the Indian cricketer decided to block the Bollywood actress as 'he didn't want to take anything forward'.

Urvashi reportedly tried to get in touch with Pant on a few occasions but the cricketer was not interested and blocked her. Ever since the reports of Pant blocking her, Urvashi has been put in a spot with questions about Pant in several of her interviews. The Bollywood actress recently decided to address the rumours and share her side of the story.

In an interview with Bollywood Hungama earlier this week, Urvashi spoke about an individual 'RP' seemingly referring to Pant, and recalled how he waited for her for hours in a hotel lobby in New Delhi. Urvashi said she couldn't meet him there but the two later met in Mumbai and were snapped by paps leading to dating rumours.

Urvashi, however, refused to name the person in her interview and decided to call him 'RP'. However, the fans were quick to guess that the Bollywood actress was talking about none other than Pant. Soon after the interview clip went viral, the two became the talk of the town once again.

Pant all but confirmed that Urvashi's comments were about him as he took to Instagram to hit back at her with a post on his Instagram story. The Indian cricketer said it's funny how people lie in interviews and are hungry for name and fame.

"It's funny how people lie in interviews just for some meagre popularity and for hitting the headlines. Sad how some people are so thirsty for fame and name. May God bless them," Pant wrote in his story which has been deleted now by the cricketer.

While there has been no official confirmation, Pant is reportedly dating Isha Negi, an interior designer from Delhi. The two have also shared pictures with each other on their respective social media handles and Isha was also spotted cheering for Pant from the stands during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 earlier this year.

Legendary Sachin Tendulkar's son Arjun is all set to leave Mumbai and in all likelihood will ply his trade for south-western neighbours Goa in the next domestic season. The 22-year-old left-arm pacer, who has also been a part of IPL franchise Mumbai Indians, have played two games for Mumbai, during the 2020-21 edition of Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy against Haryana and Puducherry respectively.

It has been learnt that Tendulkar junior has already applied for No Objection Certificate (NoC) from his home association MCA.

"Getting maximum game time on the ground is important for Arjun at this juncture of his career. We believe that the shift will improve the probability of Arjun featuring in more competitive matches. He is embarking on a new phase of his cricketing career," SRT Sports Management said in a statement.

Tendulkar has played two 'Tests' for the India U-19 against Sri Lanka, three summers back and has featured in the Mumbai probables for the white ball leg of the domestic season even this time.

For Tendulkar, the biggest disappointment has been getting dropped from the Mumbai squad this season without being given a chance to prove his mettle. People who have monitored his progress feel that the youngster has the right attitude and work ethic but does need consistent game time to showcase what he is capable of.

He has recently been a part of Mumbai Indians' developmental squad that played a lot of T20 games in England.
The likes of Kumar Kartikeya, Anmolpreet Singh, Ramandeep Singh, Dewald Brevis were all part of the squad that played T20 games against club sides.

A senior Goa Cricket Association (GCA) did acknowledge that Tendulkar junior is expected to be considered among state's pre-season probables.

"We have been looking out for left-hand bowling talent as also add players to the middle order with multiple skills. In this context, we invited Arjun Tendulkar to join the Goa side. We will be playing pre-season trial-matches (white ball) and he will be playing in those games. The selectors will then take a call based on his performance," Goa CA president Suraj Lotlikar told PTI.

Among the other Indian cricket legends from Mumbai, whose son have plied trade for other states, the notable was Sunil Gavaskar's son Rohan, who in fact moved to Bengal as a 18-year old and finished as one of the state's highest run-getter and also captained in multiple seasons.

When it comes to Goa, before Tendulkar's son, another former India captain's son had briefly appeared. It was Mohammed Azahrauddin's son Mohammed Asaduddin, who had played a couple of Ranji Trophy games in 2018 season.
