Romelu Lukaku was dropped from the Chelsea squad for a crucial Premier League clash with Liverpool on Sunday (January 2) and his future with the club looks uncertain.&nbsp;

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp to miss crucial Chelsea fixture due to suspected positive COVID-19 test

Liverpool&nbsp;manager Jurgen Klopp believes his side's crucial match against Chelsea will go ahead on Sunday despite three new coronavirus cases in his camp as another Premier League fixture was called off.

Klopp refused to name the players on Friday as they were awaiting test results but forward Roberto Firmino and goalkeeper Alisson Becker were absent from pictures released by&nbsp;Liverpool&nbsp;of a club training session.

Both sides will regard the match at Stamford Bridge as a must-win game as they seek to keep pace with defending champions Manchester City, who are eight points clear at the top.

"We have three new Covid cases in the team and a few more in the staff so it's not so cool at the moment," Klopp said at his pre-match press conference.

"I'm not able to say who it is because we have to do the whole process, get a proper PCR (test), but you will see the day after tomorrow on the team sheet -- it will be pretty clear who is affected or infected."

The German, whose side are third in the table, a point behind Chelsea, added: "We never had this proper outbreak where 15 to 20 players had it. For us it is every day, another one, stuff happens more and more often.

"It's like a lottery in the morning, waiting for the result. It is pretty much day-by-day, always one case, then another one.

"In this moment (we will) probably not (ask for a postponement) but we don't know how it will look in a few hours."

In addition to the three Covid cases, the injured Takumi Minamino and Thiago Alcantara will miss the trip to Chelsea.

Klopp's comments came as Southampton's Premier League match at home to Newcastle on Sunday was postponed due to Covid cases in the visitors' camp.

The game at St Mary's is the second in Premier League matchweek 21 to be postponed, following the announcement on Thursday that the New Year's Day clash between Leicester and Norwich was off.

Arteta absence

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta said he was frustrated to miss Saturday's match against City as he isolates following a second positive test.

"It will be very strange," said Arteta, whose team are fourth in the table. "I will need a big room so I can walk and move a little bit, because I won't be able to stand on my sofa."

The Spaniard, who also had coronavirus in March 2020, added: "It is a big, big game for us and it is a very frustrating thing to not be able to be there helping the team.

"But I will do my best from here, with everything that I can do, and we have prepared for every scenario possible and they know what we have to do."

Wolves boss Bruno Lage admitted even his players were unsure if they would be fit to face Manchester United on Monday after a virus outbreak forced the postponement of this week's trip to Arsenal.

"After 10 days without playing, in your mind, to be ready to play is difficult," said Lage. "Today I was talking with a player and I asked 'are you ready to play?'

"He said: 'I really don't know'. After 10 days without playing and training you are slow to take the right decisions."

Chelsea recorded a loss of 153.4 million pounds ($207.34 million) for the year ending June 30 2021, with the Premier League club saying that the COVID-19 pandemic had a "severe impact" on their ability to generate revenues.

Chelsea's turnover increased to 434.9 million pounds from 407.4 million the previous year after their Champions League triumph and due to amounts being carried forward from the extension of the 2019-20 season into the 2020-21 financial year.

Their matchday income fell to 7.7 million pounds from 54.5 million last year, while commercial revenue dropped from 170.4 million pounds last year to 153.6 million as most of the Premier League games were held behind closed doors due to COVID rules.

"Had it not been for the match-day impact of the pandemic, we are confident we would have achieved record turnover this year," chairman Bruce Buck said in a statement

"The strength, stability and long-term approach of our financial operation means our revenue streams remain strong, however COVID-19 will continue to have an impact going into the next financial year as our commercial operations resume normal activities."

Chelsea said the only revenue stream that has shown a year-on-year increase is broadcasting revenue which has jumped from 182.5 million pounds to 273.6 million.

Liverpool's boss Jurgen Klopp reveals three players COVID-19 positive before Chelsea trip

Thomas Tuchel admitted on Friday that he was frustrated with the "noise" around Romelu Lukaku's situation at Chelsea after the Belgium forward expressed his dissatisfaction with his role at the club.

The "surprised" Chelsea boss said he would sit down with the 28-year-old to discuss the issues but did not see any evidence that his player was unhappy.

Lukaku rejoined the Premier League side from Inter Milan for a club-record fee of £97.5 million ($132 million) in August.

He has scored seven times in a season hampered by injury and coronavirus but Chelsea boss Tuchel has at times left him out of the starting XI even when he has been fit.

Lukaku told Sky Italy he was "not happy with the situation" at Stamford Bridge in an interview released on Thursday, but it was understood to have been conducted three weeks ago.

The player has since told ESPN Brazil he had "a couple of conversations" with Tuchel about what the German wanted from him, during which he told his boss he was "multidimensional".

Tuchel, whose second-placed side face Liverpool this weekend, told his pre-match press conference that the situation was frustrating.

"We don't like it, of course, because it brings noise that we don't need and is not helpful," said the Chelsea boss. "But on the other side, we don't want to make more out of it than it actually is.

"You know very well how it is -- it's very easy to take lines out of context, to shorten lines to make headlines, then realise later it's not so bad or what he meant."

Tuchel said he was not aware that Lukaku was unhappy at the club.

"The thing with Romelu is that I don't think anyone in this building is aware he's unhappy," he added.

"That's why (there is) surprise at the statement. That's why we need to check with him now, because I can see no reason why it should be like this.

"So I will wait to see what Romelu has to say and then we will deal with this."

The former Paris Saint-Germain boss said a certain level of tension in a dressing room could be turned into an advantage.

"It's not necessary for the dressing room to be always in harmony," he said. "You don't have to hug each other and love each other every day.

Phil Foden's first-half goal was enough to give Pep Guardiola's champions a 10th consecutive league win as they took full advantage of injury-hit Chelsea's slip-up at Stamford Bridge.

The defending champions now have 50 points after 20 matches, putting them eight clear of second-placed Chelsea. Liverpool, who lost to Leicester on Tuesday, are a further point behind.

The coronavirus pandemic has ravaged English football's fixture list, leaving some clubs needing to play catch-up, but 2021 will end with&nbsp;City&nbsp;out on their own.

Brentford threatened in the opening stages in west London, but&nbsp;City&nbsp;took the lead in the 16th minute when Foden cleverly tucked in a pinpoint cross from Kevin De Bruyne.

Foden and Jack Grealish were left out of the starting XI for&nbsp;City's wins over Newcastle and Leicester after they were pictured on a night out following the 7-0 home victory over Leeds.

But the England pair were back on the teamsheet on Wednesday and Foden's goal made it a perfect 10 out of 10 for&nbsp;City.

Despite their dominance of possession, the visitors mustered just three shots on target in the entire game and Guardiola looked edgy in the latter stages as his team attempted to see out the victory.

They thought they had sealed the three points in the dying minutes when Aymeric Laporte rose to head home but his goal was ruled out by VAR for a marginal offside.

Guardiola, who hailed the "exceptional" Foden, refused to be complacent despite his side's huge lead at the top of the Premier League.

"There are 54 points to play for," he told the BBC. "It is not expected to have this distance for eight and nine, but Liverpool play one game less. But it is 54 points.&nbsp;

"In December no one is champion. We are going to lose games. I see in my mind Arsenal, Chelsea, Southampton coming.... I cannot say more than congratulations to the team but we must focus."

<h2>Chelsea pain</h2>

Thomas Tuchel's Chelsea, who kicked off 45 minutes before&nbsp;City, looked poised for victory after Romelu Lukaku headed them into a first-half lead but Brighton substitute Danny Welbeck struck in stoppage time for a 1-1 draw.

Chelsea wing-back Reece James limped off in the 27th minute with a hamstring injury, to be replaced by Marcos Alonso.

The home side went ahead immediately, when Lukaku shook off the attentions of Neal Maupay after a tussle to power a header past goalkeeper Robert Sanchez from a Mason Mount corner.

But Graham Potter's side came back strongly, with Adam Lallana and the impressive Yves Bissouma testing Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy either side of half-time.

It looked as though it was going to be a familiar story for Brighton, who have struggled to score this season, but substitute Welbeck had other ideas, heading home Marc Cucurella's cross in the 91st minute.

Tuchel counted the cost of further injuries to an already stretched squad after James limped off and Andreas Christensen had to be substituted at half-time.

The club announced on Tuesday that left wing-back Ben Chilwell faced surgery on a knee injury and defender Thiago Silva missed the Brighton game due to a thigh complaint.

"Very frustrating, of course very disappointing because we gave everything and we had enough big chances to decide the match," Tuchel told Amazon Prime.

"It was a very intense match and we have another two changes because of injuries (James and Christensen) so in the dressing room they are completely, completely exhausted but it is the same subject every single matchday now."

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel said he was forced to give some players more minutes than he should have against Aston Villa on Sunday, with both Romelu Lukaku and Callum Hudson-Odoi returning to action after missing the last three games due to COVID-19.

Chelsea secured a 3-1 win at Villa, with Lukaku coming on at half-time and Hudson-Odoi playing the full 90 minutes.

"It is not so easy when you have a long injury, with a body like (Lukaku) and you catch COVID-19," Tuchel told reporters.

Thomas Tuchel concerned as Chelsea forced to rush players into action after recovering from COVID-19

Romelu Lukaku came off the bench to lead Chelsea to a much-needed 3-1 victory at Aston Villa with midfielder Jorginho scoring two penalties in the Premier League on Sunday.

Lukaku has not started a league game since picking up an injury in October and missed the last two games after testing positive for COVID-19.

But the Belgian transformed his team`s display after coming on at halftime at Villa Park, providing a constant threat, putting his side ahead and then earning the late penalty that secured the three points for Thomas Tuchel's side.

Third-placed Chelsea, who had drawn with Everton and Wolverhampton Wanderers in their previous two games, are now level with second placed Liverpool on 41 points -- six behind leaders Manchester City.

Villa had taken the lead in the 28th minute with some good fortune when Matt Targett`s cross struck the head of Chelsea defender Reece James and flew past goalkeeper Edouard Mendy.

The visitor's drew level six minutes later, though, when Matty Cash clumsily brought down Callum Hudson-Odoi inside the box and Jorginho coolly converted the penalty.

Halftime substitute Lukaku made a swift impact, getting in front of Tyrone Mings to angle in a fine, glancing header from a Hudson-Odoi cross to put Chelsea ahead in the 56th minute.

Mason Mount should have added a third but shot wide after Villa keeper Emiliano Martinez had raced out of his area and failed to clear.

Hudson-Odoi should also have done better when he was found in space at the back post but his shot was comfortably dealt with by Martinez.

In stoppage time, Lukaku powered his way from his own half before he was brought down inside the box by Villa defender Ezri Konsa. Jorginho again made no mistake to secure three points.

"I needed a performance like this," said Lukaku, "It’s been difficult getting (on at) the end of games. I kept working hard. I’m happy with my performance and have to push on," he added.

Premier League: Romelu Lukaku helps Chelsea bag much-needed win vs Aston Villa after two draws

Liverpool&nbsp;came from two goals down to beat Leicester on penalties after a pulsating League Cup quarter-final ended 3-3 at Anfield as Tottenham and Chelsea also made the semi-finals on Wednesday.

Spurs were 2-1 winners over West Ham and will face Chelsea in the last four after they needed two late goals to see off Brentford 2-0.

Liverpool&nbsp;will take on Arsenal in the semi-finals over two legs in January.

All three matches went ahead in front of full crowds despite the worrying rise of coronavirus case numbers that had seen last weekend's Premier League schedule decimated by call offs.

Leicester's previous two fixtures had been called off due to a combination of a coronavirus outbreak in the squad and a mounting injury list.

However, Brendan Rodgers was able to name a close to full strength side on his return to Anfield and it showed early on against a much-changed&nbsp;Liverpool.

Jamie Vardy struck twice inside the first 13 minutes as he angled a drive across Caoimhin Kelleher and then tapped in Patson Daka's pass from close range.

Jurgen Klopp had made 10 changes from the side that drew 2-2 at Tottenham on Sunday with&nbsp;Liverpool&nbsp;also depleted by four positive Covid cases.

However, it was one of their more experienced starters who got them back in the game as Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain smashed home from the edge of the area.

Leicester restored their two-goal cushion before half-time thanks to James Maddison's piledriver from 30 yards that flew past Kelleher.

Klopp introduced three first-team regulars at half-time and one of them, Diogo Jota, gave&nbsp;Liverpool&nbsp;life again 22 minutes from time.

Kasper Schmeichel then needed to produce a stunning save to deny the Portuguese a second, but Leicester still could not hold out as Takumi Minamino sent the game to penalties in the fifth minute of stoppage time.

Minamino then missed with the chance to win the tie from the spot in the shootout, but Kelleher saved from Luke Thomas and Ryan Bertrand before Jota fired home the winning penalty.

<h2>Bergwijn ends goal drought</h2>

Tottenham boss Antonio Conte showed his determination to end the club's 13-year trophy drought as soon as possible as he named Harry Kane among a strong starting line-up.

But it was the other two of Spurs' front three who were on target in north London.

Steven Bergwijn scored his first goal of the season after two clever one-twos with Pierre Emile Hojbjerg.

Tottenham's lead lasted just three minutes as West Ham seized upon Eric Dier's slack pass and Jarrod Bowen fired low past Hugo Lloris.

Two minutes later it was 2-1 as Bergwijn this time turned provider for Moura to prod home from close range.

"In England it's very difficult to win something," said Conte, who will come up against his old club in the last four.

"It's good for Tottenham to reach the semi-finals of this competition. You can see the names of these teams that have reached the semi-finals -&nbsp;Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal with us - so every side wants to try to lift this trophy."

However, Tuchel emptied his bench in the second half with the introduction of N'Golo Kante, Mason Mount, Christian Pulisic, Reece James and Jorginho.

Liverpool came from two goals down to beat Leicester on penalties after a pulsating League Cup quarter-final ended 3-3 at Anfield as Tottenham and Chelsea also made the semi-finals on Wednesday. Spurs were 2-1 winners over West Ham and will face Chelsea in the last four after they needed two late goals to see off Brentford 2-0. Liverpool will take on Arsenal in the semi-finals over two legs in January. However, Brendan Rodgers was able to name a close to full strength side on his return to Anfield and it showed early on against a much-changed Liverpool. Jamie Vardy struck twice inside the first 13 minutes as he angled a drive across Caoimhin Kelleher and then tapped in Patson Daka's pass from close range. Jurgen Klopp had made 10 changes from the side that drew 2-2 at Tottenham on Sunday with Liverpool also depleted by four positive Covid cases. League Cup: Liverpool beat Leicester in penalty shootout, Chelsea and Spurs qualify for semis

Covid-hit Chelsea were held to a goalless draw by Wolves on Sunday after the Premier League rejected their request to postpone the game as Manchester City put struggling Newcastle to the sword.

Just four games were left on the schedule this weekend out of the original 10 as Britain's worsening coronavirus crisis took its toll on the Premier League.

Clubs will meet on Monday to discuss what action to take, with growing questions over the integrity of the competition as the busy festive period looms.

Stumbling Chelsea, who have struggled with illness and injuries in recent weeks, were only able to name four outfield players on the bench for their match at Molineux.

The visitors, who have now won just two of their past six league games, enjoyed the bulk of possession but mustered just one shot on target and are now six points behind leaders City.

Thomas Tuchel was without Romelu Lukaku, Timo Werner and Callum Hudson-Odoi, who have all tested positive for Covid-19. Jorginho, Kai Havertz and Ruben Loftus-Cheek were also not in the squad.

Chelsea earlier confirmed that their request to have the game called off been turned down.

The European champions' request is understood to have been rejected because the Blues were deemed to have had enough players to fulfil the fixture according to Premier League regulations.

"We did ask to postpone the game," Tuchel confirmed before kick-off.

"We thought we had a strong case regarding the security and the health of the players.

"We have seven positive cases and every single day we've had another positive case coming in. We travelled together for three hours on the bus, we are in meetings together, we have lunch and dinners together. The situation does not feel like it will stop."

<h2>Newcastle calamity</h2>

Defending champions City crushed Newcastle 4-0 to confirm their position at the top of the table at Christmas.

Eddie Howe's side shot themselves in the foot in just the fifth minute, when calamitous defending handed City the lead after goalkeeper Martin Dubravka had carelessly conceded a corner.

The defence only half-cleared and Joao Cancelo hooked the ball back into the six-yard box. Newcastle appeared to be in little danger but Ciaran Clark inexplicably chose not to make a simple headed clearance and Ruben Dias headed the loose ball into the net.

The home side rallied and Joelinton went close to equalising with a stinging shot from distance that flew just wide of Ederson's right-hand post.

But City silenced the passionate crowd at St James's Park shortly before the half-hour, when Cancelo jinked his way past Joe Willock and Isaac Hayden before smashing a right-footed shot past the helpless Dubravka from the edge of the area.

City maintained their firm grip on the match in the second half, with Riyad Mahrez and Raheem Sterling doubling their lead.

Pep Guardiola's City have now won eight league games in a row to move four points clear of second-placed Liverpool, who are in action at Tottenham later on Sunday.

But relegation-threated Newcastle remain three points from safety having now played two games more than Watford, who are just outside the drop zone.

The Magpies' wealthy new Saudi-backed owners have indicated they will invest significantly in the squad but before the January transfer window opens they have fixtures against Manchester United and Everton.

Liverpool's preparations for their Premier League visit to Spurs were hit after Thiago Alcantara became the latest of Jurgen Klopp's players to return a suspected positive test for Covid.

Jorginho held his nerve to score a stoppage-time penalty as Chelsea snatched a dramatic 3-2 win against Leeds on Saturday.

Thomas Tuchel's side bounced back from their two-game winless run but not before surviving a major scare at Stamford Bridge.

Leeds went ahead through Raphinha's first half penalty and Chelsea drew level thanks to Mason Mount's strike.

Jorginho, playing through the pain of a recurring back problem, netted the first of his two penalties after the interval, only for Leeds teenager Joe Gelhardt to equalise with seven minutes left.

Deep into stoppage-time, Italy midfielder Jorginho struck again from the spot after Mateusz Klich's challenge on Antonio Rudiger.

It was a vital victory for Chelsea after their top-flight defeat at West Ham and midweek draw against Zenit Saint-Petersburg in the Champions League.

With leaders Manchester City and second placed Liverpool both winning on Saturday, Chelsea remain in third place, two points adrift of first place.

Having won only three of their previous seven games in all competitions, Tuchel will be pleased with the way Chelsea ground out a hard-fought success after surrendering pole position last weekend.

But once again, there were concerns for the Blues boss as Chelsea laboured for long periods and conceded twice, taking the amount of goals shipped by their previously rock-solid defence to eight in three games.

Tuchel had demanded his players stopped sitting on leads following their failure to hold onto the advantage against West Ham and Zenit, but they did not heed his warning.

With N'Golo Kante, Mateo Kovacic and Trevoh Chalobah all sidelined, Tuchel was fortunate that Jorginho was willing to play through the pain barrier.

The Blues were behind in the 28th minute when Marcos Alonso upended Daniel James and Raphinha made no mistake with his penalty.

They equalised three minutes before half-time when Alonso robbed Stuart Dallas, who had failed to control Illan Meslier's pass, before sending a low ball to the near post.

Mount peeled off the defensive cover and swept into the net to level the clash, with the out-of-sync hosts mightily relieved to be on terms at the interval.

Chelsea were more measured after the break, eventually taking the lead with a 58th minute penalty.

Raphinha scythed through Rudiger and the spot-kick was duly awarded after a VAR review, with Jorginho slotting into the top corner.

Just when Chelsea thought they could celebrate, substitute Gelhardt fired his maiden Leeds goal with his first touch in the 83rd minute.

But Tuchel's team refused to roll over and Jorginho finally secured the victory in the final seconds.

Jorginho's brace helps Chelsea pull off thrilling win against Leeds United in Premier League

Jorginho will "play through pain" when Chelsea face Leeds United in the Premier League on Saturday, with fellow midfielders N'Golo Kante and Mateo Kovacic still unavailable, manager Thomas Tuchel said.

Kante has missed games due to COVID-19 and a groin problem this season and has not played since injuring his knee in a 4-0 win over Juventus in the Champions League in November, while Kovacic is isolating after testing positive for the virus.

Jorginho missed the 3-3 Champions League draw against Zenit St Petersburg on Wednesday due to a niggling back problem but has declared himself fit for the clash against 15th-placed Leeds.

"He did the last two training sessions and I think he will do what he did the last games, play through pain and do what's needed to be on the pitch," Tuchel told reporters on Friday.

Trevoh Chalobah has also been sidelined with injury, forcing Tuchel to play right back Reece James alongside Ross Barkley in the middle of the pitch, but the German manager said Kante was closing in on a return.

"We're always worried when we have to live and play without N'Golo because he's a unique and exceptional player all over the world. This is my personal opinion. You can't find a second N'Golo," Tuchel said.

Jorginho to 'play through pain' as Kante and Kovacic remain unavailable in Chelsea's midfield crisis

Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovacic is isolating after testing positive for COVID-19 ahead of their final Champions League group game at Zenit St Petersburg while four other players are out injured, manager Thomas Tuchel said on Tuesday.

Kovacic, who has five league assists, was back in contention for the first time since October after a thigh injury ruled the Croatia international out of Chelsea`s last eight games in all competitions.

"Mateo was in training yesterday with a big smile and (it)was pure pleasure to have him back, but he tested positive today for COVID-19 and is isolating," Tuchel told reporters ahead of Wednesday`s game.

"I was aware that this (more COVID-19 cases) could happen and I`m not happy about it, not only as a manager but as a person. But this is what reality is at the moment, so we have to be ready to adapt and secure people`s health."

Ben Chilwell, N`Golo Kante (both knee), Trevoh Chalobah (thigh) and Jorginho (back problem) are also ruled out for Wednesday`s game.

Kai Havertz limped off at halftime during their 3-2 Premier League defeat at West Ham United at the weekend, but the German was back in training on Tuesday.

Tuchel said Chelsea have "an acute overload" due to injuries and a hectic schedule, with the team due to play six more matches in all competitions this month after they return from Russia.

"Due to injuries in some positions, like central midfield, we struggle, but the game tomorrow is not a problem in terms of being overloaded," Tuchel added.

"The problem is the next match on Saturday (against Leeds United) because we will lose time to sleep, arrive back very early on Thursday... Then we face an intense team in Leeds who have prepared to play this match."

Chelsea have already qualified for the Champions League`s knockout stages and are tied on 12 points with Juventus at the top of Group H. The London club can finish as group leaders if they match or better Juventus` result against Malmo.

Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovacic tests positive for COVID-19 ahead of Zenit clash in Champions League

Chelsea thrashed Arsenal 3-0 to win the 2020-21 Women's FA Cup at Wembley Stadium on Sunday, completing the English treble for the first time after winning the League Cup and Women's Super League title earlier this year.

Fran Kirby scored the opening goal after only two minutes and Sam Kerr netted a second-half brace, the latter a delightful chipped finish, to seal a third FA Cup for Emma Hayes's side and a third trophy of 2021.

Last season's FA Cup was interrupted, then postponed to this campaign due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Chelsea began the game second to Arsenal in the league standings, having lost to them on the opening day of the season.

However, they got off to the best possible start when Kirby pounced on a defensive lapse by the Gunners defence, who failed to clear their lines, and hit the ball into the bottom corner.

Chelsea dominated the first half in front of almost 41,000 fans while Arsenal looked a shadow of the side who were so far unbeaten in all competitions this campaign. They were not helped by the absence of England defender Leah Williamson through injury.

The Blues were incredibly wasteful in front of goal, though, with Kirby having efforts saved by goalkeeper Manuela Zinsberger and Australia striker Kerr hitting the bar when clear through one on one.

Kerr made up for that miss shortly after halftime, however, when she ran on to a long ball and cut inside the penalty area, toying with defender Lotte Wubben-Moy before firing a low shot inside the near post.

Jonas Eidevall, in his first season as Arsenal manager, urged his side forward but they were always crowded out by the Chelsea defence who expertly marked key Dutch striker Vivianne Miedema out of the game. Arsenal failed to have a shot on target.

The result was sealed for Chelsea in the 77th minute when player of the match Kerr chipped the ball over Zinsberger from the right-hand side of the penalty area.

After making up for her misses in the first half, Kerr became the second Australian to lift the FA Cup after former Matilda Taryn Rockall who won it with Arsenal in 1999.

"It wouldn’t go in in the first half -– it could have been 4-0 or 5-0 but they defended well. We knew that if we kept pushing at some point they would go in and they did," Kerr told the BBC.

"I'm paid to score goals but our defence was amazing and it was a team effort – I can't wait to party!"

The match was played on the 100th anniversary of the English FA banning professional women's football in 1921. The ban lasted nearly 50 years until it was rescinded in January 1970.

Chelsea women thump Arsenal to win FA Cup and seal domestic treble

West Ham United stunned Premier League leaders Chelsea with a 3-2 win on Saturday after coming from behind twice and then claiming all three points with a late goal from substitute defender Arthur Masuaku.

Chelsea had seemed to be in control of the game after 28 minutes when Thiago Silva scored with a header from a Mason Mount corner that West Ham goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski could only touch on to a post before it went in.

But the European champions allowed the hosts back into the game in the 40th minute when Jorginho put his goalkeeper Edouard Mendy under pressure with a poor back pass and Mendy brought down Jarrod Bowen for a penalty that was converted by Lanzini.

It took Chelsea only four minutes to get back in front when Mount, back to his best after an absence due to wisdom teeth problems, connected with a long pass from Hakim Ziyech for a perfect volley that caught out Fabianski at his near post.

Chelsea brought on Romelu Lukaku at the start of the second half to replace the injured Kai Havertz. But West Ham drew level again in the 56th minute when Bowen fired in hard and low from the edge of the box.

Premier League: West Ham United stun league leaders Chelsea with 3-2 win

Chelsea`s lead at the top of the Premier League was cut to a point after they were held at home by Manchester United while rivals Manchester City beat West Ham United 2-1 on Sunday. Thomas Tuchel`s Chelsea have 30 points from 13 games with City on 29 points and Liverpool, who beat Southampton 4-0 on Saturday, are a further point behind.

United, with Michael Carrick in temporary charge of the team following the sacking of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, left Cristiano Ronaldo on the bench and fielded a defensive lineup designed to frustrate the league leaders.

Chelsea dominated the first half, with United sitting deep and tight with three defensive midfielders in front of a back four without the suspended Harry Maguire and injured Raphael Varane. Five minutes after the interval, United hit Chelsea on the break with Jorginho miscontrolling a long clearance and Jadon Sancho taking full advantage, latching on to the loose ball and then racing goalwards before beating Edouard Mendy with an ice-cool finish.

Jorginho made amends though when he converted from the spot after a wild challenge from Aaron Wan-Bissaka on Thiago Silva led to a penalty.

The hosts pushed for a winner and brought on Romelu Lukaku, returning from injury as a substitute for the last 10 minutes against his former club, but they failed to find a way through United`s defence with Antonio Rudiger wasting a late chance.

"I am absolutely happy with the performance," Chelsea boss Tuchel said. "We dominated from the first minute, we were aggressive and never stopped attacking... We have to swallow the result. We played very well and I am happy."

United are expected, in the coming days, to appoint former RB Leipzig coach Ralf Rangnick as their manager until the end of the season and Carrick was disappointed with Sunday`s result.

"When you`re in front in a game like this, to have it taken away from you is disappointing," he said.

"I`m immensely proud of the players, it`s been a tough week and some difficult moments for us all but I`m proud of the response."

Manchester City captain Ilkay Gundogan struck in the midst of a first-half snowstorm before a late goal from substitute Fernandinho proved enough to secure a 2-1 win over West Ham. With thick snow falling for most of the opening half, City took the lead when Riyad Mahrez drove the ball across the goal and Gundogan was on hand to steer it home in the 33rd minute.

The snowstorm abated at halftime and an army of groundstaff cleared the pitch. City continued to dominate but it took them until the 90th minute to score again when Gabriel Jesus set up Fernandinho to net three minutes after he came off the bench.

Manuel Lanzini grabbed a superb added-time goal, with a fine shot into the top corner, for David Moyes` West Ham who are fourth in the table on 23 points. Brendan Rodgers` Leicester City beat Watford 4-2 amid heavy snowfall which reduced visibility and made playing conditions difficult at the King Power Stadium.

The match began in relatively clear conditions and Leicester took an early lead from a Watford error when William Troost-Ekong ducked under a long ball, allowing Leicester`s James Maddison to sneak in behind and beat keeper Daniel Bachmann.

Watford levelled 14 minutes later after Emmanuel Dennis was tripped in the box by Wilfred Ndidi and Joshua King made no mistake in beating Kasper Schmeichel from the spot.

But as the snowfall got heavier, Jamie Vardy fired the home side ahead with two goals in eight minutes, both created by Maddison, first chipping the onrushing Bachmann before cleverly heading home from the near post at a corner kick.

A blanket of snow turned the lush green pitch white in the second half and as the visibility fell, Dennis nicked the ball off a back-tracking Timothy Castagne on the hour mark to go one-on-one with Schmeichel, making it 3-2 with a controlled finish.

However, Leicester restored their two-goal cushion minutes later when Harvey Barnes skipped forward on a counter-attack and squared the ball for Ademola Lookman to tap into an empty net. Tottenham Hotspur`s game at Burnley was postponed after heavy snow before kickoff made the pitch unplayable.

Premier League: Manchester City sweep aside Everton to close on Chelsea

Chelsea were held to a surprise 1-1 draw by struggling Burnley as Matej Vydra's late equaliser rocked the Premier League leaders on Saturday.

Thomas Tuchel's side led through Kai Havertz's first half header and were 11 minutes away from moving five points clear at the top before Vydra stunned Stamford Bridge into silence.

It was a brutal blow to Chelsea given their territorial dominance, but they had no response as their four-match winning run in the league came to an end.

The Blues sit three points clear of second placed Manchester City, who won at Manchester United earlier on Saturday.

Third placed Liverpool can move within one point of Chelsea if they beat West Ham on Sunday.

Although Chelsea are unbeaten in eight matches in all competitions, this setback underlined their lack of cutting edge without injured strikers Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner.

Burnley should have been dead and buried before Vydra's late invention.

But a fine display from Burnley keeper Nick Pope and some wasteful Chelsea finishing allowed the visitors to escape with a point.

It was just the second goal Chelsea had conceded in their last seven games in all competitions.

Tuchel will hope both Lukaku and Werner are available soon after the forthcoming international break.

Chelsea's failure to take three points overshadowed a fine display from Ross Barkley.

But, with Mason Mount only available from a bench after a tooth infection, the midfielder produced one of his most influential performances in a Chelsea shirt.

The 27-year-old, deployed in a 'false nine' role, surged towards the Burnley area and teed up Callum Hudson-Odoi for a shot that was saved by Pope before the winger fired the rebound wide.

That was the signal for a period of sustained Chelsea pressure, with Andreas Christensen glancing a header just wide.

Touchline spat&nbsp;

Jorginho threatened with a header that Pope pushed away at full-stretch, while Barkley curled narrowly wide from the edge of the area.

Barkley's crunching foot-up challenge on Ben Mee sparked a spat between Tuchel and Sean Dyche, with the Chelsea boss jumping from his seat in a finger-pointing fury that brought an angry response from the Burnley boss before they were kept apart.

Chelsea kept pressing and Reece James' deflected cross was clawed away for a corner by Pope.

The Blues' dominance paid dividends in the 33rd minute.

Just moments earlier, Havertz needed treatment after tumbling over an advertising board into the Matthew Harding Stand, but the German forward was clearly unfazed by that painful landing.

N'Golo Kante picked out James down the right and the defender's pin-point cross reached the unmarked Havertz, who thumped a clinical header past Pope for his fourth goal this season.

With Chelsea pressing for the knockout blow, Thiago Silva headed against a post from another precise James cross early in the second half.

A hat-trick from Mason Mount propelled Chelsea to a 7-0 win over bottom side Norwich City in the Premier League on Saturday, extending their lead at the top of the table and demonstrating they still had firepower despite injuries to their strikers.

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel had called on his attacking players to step up after injuries to striker Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner during Wednesday`s Champions League win over Malmo.

The players obeyed and Mount opened Chelsea`s account when he sent the ball low into the net after a layoff from Jorginho in a move started down the left by the ever-busy Callum Hudson-Odoi.

The 20-year-old Hudson-Odoi earned his own reward 11 minutes later when he latched on to a pinpoint throughball from Mateo Kovacic and held his nerve to fire home past the outstretched leg of Norwich keeper Tim Krul.

A third Chelsea Academy product got on the scoresheet three minutes before halftime when Mount slid the ball into the path of Reece James and the wing-back produced a delicious chip over the advancing Krul.

Tuchel has said he believes Chelsea`s success is built upon a happy combination of home grown and foreign players and it took 12 minutes of the second half for Chelsea`s, now purring, machine to score again. England left back Ben Chilwell sent a Kovacic pass across the face of the goal and into the back of the net past a despairing Krul.

Norwich, who have failed to win a game this season and have scored just two goals, were in disarray and then suffered the indignity of an own goal from Max Aarons in the 62nd and a sending off for Ben Gibson after a second yellow card two minutes later.

By now the European champions were peppering the Norwich goal with attempts and, but for some last ditch defending and some fine Krul saves, substitutes Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Hakim Ziyech and Ross Barkley might all have scored.

Krul saved a penalty from Mount late in the game but VAR showed he had moved off his line and when the kick was retaken in the 85th minute the England midfielder made no mistake.

Mount capped off his fine performance with a tap-in from a Loftus-Cheek pass in the 91st minute to register his first hat-trick and send fans home happy.

Clear chances were at a premium at the Gazprom Arena in Saint Petersburg, where Claudinho`s first-half shot was kept out by Juventus goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny. At the other end of the pitch, Zenit goalkeeper Stanislav Kritsyuk`s smart reactions denied Weston McKennie from Álvaro Morata`s clever through ball after the break.

Chelsea beat neighbours Brentford 1-0 to keep their grip on the Premier League`s top spot on Saturday thanks to a Ben Chilwell strike but they owed their three points as much to goalkeeper Edouard Mendy who denied the hosts with a string of late saves.

Chilwell, back in the team after being side-lined early in the season, scored for the second match in a row when Brentford failed to clear and the ball dropped kindly for him to strike from 12 yards with a half volley in the 45th minute.

The hosts had earlier hit the post through Bryan Mbeumo and the Frenchman was again denied by the woodwork in the 75th minutes as the Bees subjected Chelsea to wave after wave of attacks in their second-half push for an equaliser.

In the 83rd minute, Mendy denied Saman Ghoddos as he rushed off his line to close down the angle, moments before Trevoh Chalobah saved the visitors by clearing off line from Christian Norgaard.

Chelsea's French goalkeeper made more fine saves, including turning over an acrobatic overhead effort by Norgaard in injury time.

Asked to describe the game, Chelsea coach Thomas Tuchel told BBC: "Very strong for 70 minutes, very lucky for 20 minutes."

"We trust the guys who are young. If you don’t play you cannot get experience," Tuchel said.

Premier League: Leaders Chelsea survive late siege to beat Brentford 1-0

Chelsea got back to winning ways on Saturday, beating Southampton 3-1 in the Premier League thanks to late goals by Timo Werner and Ben Chilwell after the Saints were reduced to 10 men.

Blues coach Thomas Tuchel overhauled his side after back-to-back defeats by Manchester City in the English title race and by Juventus in the Champions League and he was rewarded when one of the fresh faces, defender Trevor Chalobah, put the hosts ahead.

He stooped to head in at the far post after nine minutes when Ruben Loftus-Cheek, making his first start of the season, flicked on a corner by Chilwell, who was also restored to the team for the first time this campaign.

Chelsea thought they had extended their lead twice before halftime only for the officials to rule out the efforts by Romelu Lukaku and Werner, which incensed Tuchel who earned a yellow card for his protests.

Southampton hit back with a penalty converted by James Ward-Prowse in the 61st minute after Chilwell fouled former Chelsea defender Tino Livramento.

The game only swung back Chelsea's way when Ward-Prowse was shown a straight red card 16 minutes later for a foul on Jorginho which was picked up by the VAR officials and the hosts made their numerical advantage count.

In the 84th minute, Werner scored from point-blank range after a cross by captain Cesar Azpilicueta and five minutes later Chilwell atoned for giving away the earlier penalty by smashing the ball in after a goalmouth scramble.

The win lifted Chelsea to the top of the table ahead of Sunday's clash between fellow title contenders Liverpool and Manchester City. Winless Southampton remains just outside the relegation zone.

How Premier League can avert the COVID-19 crisis as majority of players not getting jabbed?

Chelsea coach Thomas Tuchel said he felt his side had lost their mental sharpness even before the Champions League holders stepped on the pitch ahead of their 1-0 loss to Juventus in Turin on Wednesday.

Federico Chiesa's goal early in the second half was enough to inflict a first Champions League group-stage defeat on Chelsea since September 2019, with the Blues suffering their second successive 1-0 loss in all competitions.

"We had a very good training session yesterday," Tuchel told reporters. "We were absolutely sharp and looked very fresh and very hungry, ready for bounce back (from defeat to Manchester City on Saturday).

"I think it's very difficult to find rhythm against a team that defends so deep, it was completely the other way around in the Manchester City game.

"The big difference was that we gave big mistakes away that cost us confidence. Early today I could tell it was different. We were not as fresh mentally as we were in training yesterday. I don't know why."

Chelsea enjoyed 73% possession in Turin against a Juventus side who have been struggling in Serie A this season and registered just one shot on target all match - Romelu Lukaku`s tame early effort.

Tuchel's team did not have a single attempt on target against City at the weekend, but the German insisted he is not worried by their lack of attacking threat.

"We were lacking runs, we were struggling to find our rhythm and to keep the belief structure," Tuchel added.

"Maybe it is a shooting problem, because if you don’t shoot then you don’t score. But if you play against a team that sit so deep like today it is hard to take shots. We will learn."

Juve coach Massimiliano Allegri was rather more poetic when describing his side's recovery from a poor start to the season in recent weeks.

The Chelsea success was Juve's third win in a row in all competitions, as the Serie A team moved onto six points at the top of Champions League Group H.

"Usually sailors always find the way out when they are in a storm," Allegri said. "Tonight we played a good match against the European champions.

"There is no turning point, let's just take the six points and be happy. The (league) championship is another thing.

"Tonight the team understood that against another side who do not allow you to have possession, you have to adapt and have a defensive match. I never got angry, the defending was perfect."

Champions League: Thomas Tuchel believes Chelsea lost mental sharpness ahead of Juventus loss

Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri said his team will be punished if they sit back in their Champions League clash with holders Chelsea in Turin on Wednesday as he called for his side to take the game to their opponents.

Juventus has endured a difficult start to the season after failing to win any of their opening four league games for the first time in 60 years, and come into the match against Chelsea with several injuries.

They did get off to a winning start in the Champions League against Malmo two weeks ago, while Allegri's men also earned victories in their last two Serie A matches.

The Juve coach hopes that will give his side a boost ahead of Wednesday's encounter.

"You need to apply pressure but you have to play well," Allegri told a news conference.

"You can't play 95 minutes under pressure. When you have the ball you have to breathe to build and recover immediately.

"They are strong on the counter-attack, they are strong in dead balls. It will be difficult to find gaps and we will have to be good all over the pitch.

"We will need patience, but we will have to have fun. We have improved in recent games. The emotion is natural. In front of us we have a team where if you make mistakes, you are punished."

Without the injured Paulo Dybala and Alvaro Morata, Allegri said he has no other option but to deploy Moise Kean in the lone striker role.

"He (Kean) has to play and score," Allegri added. "One thing he knows how to do well is scoring. He has to improve when he has to play with the team, in terms of individual technique."

Speaking at the same news conference, defender Giorgio Chiellini insisted no extra motivation was needed ahead of such blockbuster European encounters.

"It was easy to prepare the game, the coach has told us the same thing," Chiellini said.

"These are very nice games, you can prepare them easily.

"We’ll be playing home against the European champions, it will be challenging."
