The British government has issued a licence that permits the sale of Chelsea to a consortium led by Los Angeles Dodgers part-owner Todd Boehly and backed by Clearlake Capital, sports minister Nadine Dorries said on Wednesday. Current owner Roman Abramovich is subject to sanctions by the British government. He put the London club up for sale in early March following Russia`s invasion of Ukraine, which Moscow calls a "special military operation".

"We are satisfied the proceeds of the sale will not benefit Roman Abramovich or other sanctioned individuals," Dorries said on Twitter.

"Given the sanctions we placed on those linked to Putin and the bloody invasion of Ukraine, the long-term future of the club can only be secured under a new owner."

On Tuesday the consortium, which agreed terms to acquire Chelsea for 4.25 billion pounds ($5.33 billion) earlier this month, passed the Premier League Owners` and Directors` Test.

Chelsea had been operating under a government license since Abramovich`s assets were frozen in March and it was set to expire on May 31.

The club had earlier confirmed that all proceeds from the sale will be donated to charitable causes by Abramovich.

"We are now satisfied that the full proceeds of the sale will not benefit Roman Abramovich or any other sanctioned individual," said a government spokesperson.

"We will now begin the process of ensuring the proceeds of the sale are used for humanitarian causes in Ukraine, supporting victims of the war."

The completion of the sale will allow Chelsea to renew transfer activity as well as permit players to sign new contracts, which was prohibited as part of the sanctions imposed.

Chelsea's top five most expensive signings under Roman Abramovich

Chelsea's board on Saturday (May 07) agreed a deal with a consortium led by Los Angeles Dodgers co-owner Todd Boehly to acquire the English Premier League (EPL) club from Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich. Chelsea confirmed that the deal is worth 4.25 billion pounds ($5.2 billion).

Abramovich's reign at Chelsea came to an abrupt end in March earlier this year when he put the club up for sale just days after his country Russia invaded Ukraine. The British government imposed strict sanctions on several Russian billionaires, including Abrahmovic forcing him to sell Chelsea.

The Boehly-led consortium is backed by Clearlake Capital, Mark Walter and Hansjoerg Wyss which would own the club now. Chelsea's sale is likely to be completed by the end of May, officially bringing an end to Abrahomvic's era at Stamford Bridge. Chelsae enjoyed incredible success under the Russian billionaire and achieved some illustrious feats which will remain engraved in the club's folklore.

Here is a look at how Chelsea fared in the Roman Abramovich era:

Glorious trophy cabinet - 21 major titles

Chelsea became a force to reckon with in the Premier League and European football in the Abramovich era as the club lifted almost every silverware possible in club football. Abramovich had bought the club in 2003 for a reported fee of around 140 million pounds. In his first season, Abrahmovic went on to spend over 100 million pounds on buying new players but the club failed to achieve any success under manager Claudio Ranieri.

The Italian was replaced by Jose Mourinho, who guided Chelsea to their first Premier League title in the Abramovich era in the 2004-05 season. Mourino won back-to-back titles in his first spell with the club as Chelsea won the Premier League once again the next season. They won three more Premier League crowns in the next 16 years.

Chelsea won a total of 5 Premier League titles, 2 Champions League crowns, 5 FA Cups, 3 League Cups, 2 Europa League titles, 1 FIFA Club World Cup, 1 UEFA Super Cup and 2 Community Shields under Abramovich's ownership.

Their first won the Champions League in 2012 when Mourinho guided the Blues to their maiden title before claiming their second Champions League crown under current manager Thomas Tuchel last season. Chelsea are the reigning European champions.

Guus Hiddink, who managed the club for a few months in 2009 as an interim manager, returned as the full-time manager in 2015 and was once again put in charge midway through the season to the end of it.

Tom Boehly-led consortium to purchase Chelsea football club for USD 5.2 billion

British billionaire Jim Ratcliffe said he was not giving up a bid to buy Chelsea despite apparent rejection from the U.S. bank handling the sale of the Premier League club. The head of chemical company INEOS announced last Friday a last minute offer of 4.25 billion pounds ($5.35 billion) but a consortium led by LA Dodgers part-owner Todd Boehly is considered the preferred bidder.

Russian owner Roman Abramovich, now subject to sanctions by the British government, put the West London club up for sale after Russia`s invasion of Ukraine. "We presented them (New York bank Raine) with an offer at the end of last week, we haven`t heard a great deal back from them which is a bit disappointing," Ratcliffe told the BBC on Wednesday.

"I`d say don`t discount our offer, we are very British and we`ve got great intentions for Chelsea," he added when asked what his message to those overseeing the sale would be. The Daily Telegraph earlier quoted Ineos communications director Tom Crotty saying Raine had ruled out the company`s bid.

British tycoon Sir Jim Ratcliffe not giving up on Chelsea bid despite apparent rejection

American investor Steve Pagliuca`s group is out of the running to purchase Premier League side Chelsea, his spokesperson said on Friday, but British businessman Jim Ratcliffe says he has made a late bid to buy the London club. Chelsea were put up for sale by owner Roman Abramovich in March following Russia`s invasion of Ukraine and before sanctions were imposed on the oligarch by the British government.

American bank Raine is handling the sale and the spokesperson for Pagliuca`s group said they had been told by the bank that they were not the `preferred bidder` so were out of contention. Raine were not immediately reachable for comment.

Pagliuca had teamed up with NBA chairman Larry Tanenbaum, who is owner of the Canadian company Maple Leaf Sports Entertainment, which owns a number of professional sports franchises in Toronto.
British billionaire Ratcliffe, chairman of chemical company INEOS, currently owns French club OGC Nice and the INEOS Grenadiers cycling team said he had made a `formal bid` to buy the club for 4.25 billion pounds ($5.33 billion).

"This is a British bid, for a British club," INEOS said in a statement. "We believe that London should have a club that reflects the stature of the city. One that is held in the same regard as Real Madrid, Barcelona or Bayern Munich. We intend Chelsea to be that club.

"We are making this investment as fans of the beautiful game – not as a means to turn a profit. We do that with our core businesses. The club is rooted in its community and its fans. And it is our intention to invest in Chelsea FC for that reason," the statement added.

Ineos said that 2.5bn pounds was committed to the Charitable Trust to support victims of the war, while 1.75bn was for "investment directly into the club over the next 10 years". LA Dodgers co-owner Todd Boehly is heading another consortium as is former British Airways chairman Martin Broughton whose bid is backed by Formula 1 driver Lewis Hamilton and tennis star Serena Williams.

The Wall Street Journal reported on Friday that Boehly was "set to enter exclusive talks" over acquiring Chelsea. A spokesperson for Boehly did not immediately respond to request for comment.

American investor Steve Pagliuca out of running for Chelsea, British tycoon Jim Ratcliffe makes bid

Manchester United`s Cristiano Ronaldo showed his continued class in front of goal by cancelling out Marcos Alonso`s opener for a dominant Chelsea side in their 1-1 Premier League draw at Old Trafford on Thursday. It was another night of mediocrity from Ralf Rangnick`s United as their troubled season, which began with such high expectations, peters out.

The result leaves Chelsea in third place on 66 points while United are in sixth spot with 55, five points behind fourth-placed Arsenal having played two games more. The only moment of class, to bring some cheer to the United supporters who had again vented their frustrations against the club`s American owners, the Glazer family, came from Ronaldo with a superb piece of control and finishing.

Little has worked for United this season, either under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer or German Rangnick, who took over from the Norwegian in November, but Portugal`s five-time Ballon d`Or winner has certainly delivered in front of goal.

Ronaldo`s 62nd-minute strike was his 17th league goal this season with only Mohamed Salah of Liverpool having found the target more often and the former Real Madrid man has claimed eight of his team`s last nine goals.

"Not only the goal Cristiano scored but his whole performance, his attitude at the age of 37, this is not normal to do that," said Rangnick.

"If he plays like he did today he can still be a big help to this team," he added.

"It was a good point for us. In the first half Chelsea dominated the game. You can see that they have top players and are well organised, and it`s not so easy to get hold of them," added the interim manager who will be replaced by Ajax Amsterdam boss Erik ten Hag at the end of the season.

After Chelsea failed to make the most of a series of chances in the first half, with United goalkeeper David De Gea three times denying Kai Havertz, they finally got ahead on the hour. Reece James` cross was flicked on by Havertz and Alonso powered a left-foot volley into the corner of the net.

Within two minutes, though, United were back on level terms when Nemanja Matic scooped the ball over the top and Ronaldo took one touch before slotting past keeper Edouard Mendy. Chelsea went close to a winner in the 79th when Mason Mount set up James with a clever, heeled lay-off but the full-back`s left foot curler struck the post.

Manager Thomas Tuchel was frustrated with the way his team had failed to take the lead during the opening 45 minutes when they dominated the game.

"One team deserved to win and that was us. We didn`t take it. It was a very, very good performance but we were not decisive enough. We lacked a bit of determination in the box to win the game," said the Chelsea manager.

"It sometimes happens. It`s on us to learn from it. You need to be clinical to get the reward. We have to live with a point but it`s not a fair result.

"We worked so hard to get the lead and suddenly the opponent gets one free shot and scores," he added.

Cristiano Ronaldo on target as Manchester United draw 1-1 with Chelsea in Premier League

US forward Christian Pulisic came off the bench to score in the 90th minute and earn Chelsea a 1-0 win over West Ham that consolidated third place in the Premier League on Sunday.

Pulisic, who entered as part of a triple substitution by Chelsea in the 76th minute, converted a cross from Marcos Alonso with a first-time finish off his left foot into the bottom corner at Stamford Bridge.

That goal spared the blushes of Jorginho, who struck a tame penalty at West Ham goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianksi in the 87th minute after his trademark hop-and-skip run-up. Craig Dawson brought down Romelu Lukaku for the penalty and was shown a red card after VAR looked at the incident to check there was contact in the area.

Manchester City regained their one-point lead at the top of the Premier League with a 3-0 win over Brighton and Hove Albion while Arsenal upset London rivals Chelsea with a 4-2 victory at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday.

Liverpool had taken over at the top of the table after their 4-0 demolition of Manchester United on Tuesday, meaning City could ill afford a slip-up at home to Graham Potter's side.

Pep Guardiola's team struggled to break down a well-organised Brighton defence in the opening 45 minutes but broke the deadlock through Algerian forward Riyad Mahrez in the 53rd minute.

Kevin De Bruyne burst forward from inside his own half, brushing off three challengers, before finding Mahrez who converted at the second attempt.

That opener settled City's nerves with the hosts scoring a second 12 minutes later as Phil Foden's effort from distance was helped past Brighton goalkeeper Robert Sanchez by a deflection.

Bernardo Silva added a late third to round off the win that moved Pep Guardiola's side onto 77 points from 32 games.

Arsenal's victory, with two goals from Eddie Nketiah was a major boost in their bid to qualify for the Champions League via a top-four finish.

The win moves the Gunners level on 57 points with fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur with both teams having played 32 matches and set to meet at Spurs on May 12.

Arsenal went ahead twice in a pulsating first half at Stamford Bridge, first when Nketiah pounced on a weak back pass by Andreas Christensen in the 13th minute and then when Emile Smith-Rowe finished off a flowing counter-attack in the 27th.

PEGGED BACK

But the visitors were quickly pegged back on both occasions by equalisers from Timo Werner and Cesar Azpilicueta.

Nketiah restored the visitors' lead in the 57th minute when he seized on another mix-up in Chelsea's defence to make it 3-2, stabbing the ball home after Thiago Silva's interception bounced into the Arsenal striker's path off Malang Sarr.

Chelsea searched for a third leveller but it was Arsenal's Bukayo Saka who rounded off the win when he converted a penalty in the 92nd minute after he was adjudged to have been fouled by Azpilicueta.

Chelsea stayed in third place on 62 points having played a game less than both Spurs and Arsenal.

At the bottom end of the table, Everton needed a stoppage-time equaliser from Richarlison to scrape a point at home to Leicester City and move four points clear of the relegation zone.

Harvey Barnes put the visitors in front in the fifth minute, poking home a pass from James Maddison from close range as Everton struggled to find their feet, and the home side did not register a shot on target in the first half.

Richarlison finally forced a save from Kasper Schmeichel in the 67th minute but he wasted several good chances before redeeming himself with a scuffed shot in the second minute of stoppage time at the end of the game to grab a point.

Everton are four points clear of 18th-placed Burnley with both teams having seven games to go. Managerless Burnley host Southampton at Turf Moor on Thursday.

Relegation worries are now a distant memory for Newcastle United who picked up their sixth straight home win with Miguel Almiron's first goal for the club in over a year earning them a 1-0 win over Crystal Palace to move Eddie Howe's side up to 11th.

Yet the hosts came roaring back, with Rodrygo finishing from a superb pass by Luka Modric to level the tie 4-4 on aggregate and force extra time when Karim Benzema headed home to decide a remarkable encounter.

Real Madrid will now face either Manchester City or local rivals Atletico Madrid in the last four, with the English side taking a 1-0 lead into their quarter-final second leg in Spain on Wednesday.

It was a Champions League night for the ages at a packed stadium as a brilliant Chelsea came within 10 minutes of completing a rescue act that their manager Thomas Tuchel had said they were unlikely to accomplish.

His team took the game to Real Madrid as they looked to turn around a two-goal deficit from the first leg and it took only 15 minutes for Mount to open the scoring from a through ball behind the defence.

Chelsea were even more aggressive after the break and scored their second in the 51st minute when Rudiger guided home a header from a Werner corner to level the tie 3-3 on aggregate.

Four minutes later, Werner found Marcos Alonso inside the area and he thrashed his finish into the top corner only to see his effort chalked off by the video assistant referee who had spotted a handball from the Spanish left back.

With the visitors on top, however, it was only a matter of time until they scored their third which arrived in the 75th minute from a brilliant piece of individual skill from Werner, who left two opponents on the ground before dispatching a precise shot past Courtois and inside the far post.

In the very next move, Kai Havertz was denied by former Chelsea keeper Courtois, who made a magnificent save to stop his close-range header. Yet just when Real looked completely out of the game, Modric worked his magic, finding substitute Rodrygo at the far post with a delightful pass with the outside of his boot that the Brazilian volleyed past Edouard Mendy in the 80th to take the game to extra time.

That was the cue for Vinicius Jr and Benzema to show up and rescue Real Madrid from what would have been one of the biggest shocks they had ever suffered at home.

Vinicius worked his way inside from the left corner, and sent a lovely cross onto Benzema`s head, and the Frenchman bulleted it past Mendy as the ecstatic home fans exploded with joy.

"It was another incredible night, what a sweet tasting loss," Modric told Movistar Plus.

"We didn`t give up until the end. Despite going 0-3, I don`t think we played a bad game. Another night of suffering, but the important thing is that we have qualified."

Real Madrid survive superb Chelsea comeback to reach Champions League semi-finals

American investor Stephen Pagliuca hinted on Tuesday at being prepared to divest his interest in Italian club Atalanta to buy Premier League side Chelsea as he prepares to submit a bid this week.

Pagliuca, who is the joint owner of NBA team Boston Celtics, agreed to buy into Serie A club Atalanta in February, buying 55% of La Dea, the holding owned by Italy`s Percassi family, which owns around 86% of the club.

"Later this week, we will submit a substantial and credible bid proposal – one that we expect will meet the respective requirements and regulations of the Premier League, UK Government and UEFA," Pagliuca said in a statement.

"We pledge to honour our commitment to credibility and good guardianship of Chelsea Football Club from day one."
Under European soccer governing body UEFA`s rules, two clubs participating in the same competition cannot be directly or indirectly controlled by the same entity or managed by the same person.

If two or more clubs do not meet this criteria, only one may be admitted to the competition based on sporting merit and ranking of associations -- in this case, Chelsea.

Both Atalanta and Chelsea played in the Champions League this season, with the Serie A side knocked out in the group stages. Chelsea trail Real Madrid 3-1 in the quarter-finals ahead of Tuesday`s second leg.

The American said his first focus was to invest in the team so they could continue competing for trophies such as the Premier League, Champions League or the Women`s Super League.

"(The Women`s Super League is) the only Super League we intend competing in, for the record," he said, referring to last year`s plans by Europe`s top clubs for a breakaway league fell through.

Pagliuca added he was committed to having Chelsea remain at Stamford Bridge and was "inspired to renovate or redevelop the stadium".

"Chelsea is a world-class team, in a world-class city, with world-class fans: it deserves a world-class stadium," he said.

Pagliuca`s bid is one of many short-listed to buy the London club. The Ricketts family, who own the Chicago Cubs baseball team, is another and they strengthened their bid team with the appointment of Lord Karan Bilimoria, the founder of Cobra Beer.

"The move will further boost the bid team`s credentials and its connection with UK business, sport and politics," they said in a statement.

"Lord Bilimoria would join the Board of Chelsea as a Director if the bid is successful. He will act as an ambassador and support the club`s philanthropic programmes."

Bilimoria said he has been a Chelsea season ticket holder for many years.

"When Tom Ricketts approached me to discuss a leading role in his bid group, there was no way I could refuse," he said.

Boston Celtics co-owner Stephen Pagliuca confirms bid to buy Premier League club Chelsea

Real Madrid midfielder Casemiro insisted they won`t fall into the trap of believing their Champions League quarter-final against Chelsea is already wrapped up after they dominated to win 3-1 at Stamford Bridge in the first leg.

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel was very critical of his team after last week`s defeat and said it "would be impossible" to recover from the setback - words that did not go unnoticed in Real`s dressing room.

"We won`t fall for that," Casemiro told a news conference on Monday. "We played probably what was the best 90 minutes of our season in London last week and took a major step closer to qualifying for the semi-final but we can’t get overly confident.

"We all heard what Thomas Tuchel said. We don`t buy it. We know that it will be a tough game. They are defending champions and we won’t take this game lightly, I can assure you of that."

Casemiro warned Real`s supporters not to lose their focus and called on them to pack the Santiago Bernabeu stadium and help their team finish what they started in London.

"We’ll need our fans to be there and support us from the beginning," Casemiro said. "We can`t get overconfident and need our fans to create a great atmosphere so we can advance to the semi-finals."

Coach Carlo Ancelotti agreed with Casemiro that they will not fall for Tuchel putting all the pressure on Real Madrid.

"Chelsea will come here to rescue the tie, I have no doubt about it," the Italian told a news conference when asked if Tuchel was playing mind games against his side.

"He can say whatever he wants but I`m sure Chelsea will come here to win, that’s the spirit of football, the spirit of big clubs and great players, to never give up.

"I`m lucky to have a group of players that know these types of games really well, that anything can happen. Real Madrid won't take Chelsea lightly, says Casemiro ahead of Champions League clash

Chelsea consigned Southampton to its latest humiliating defeat in the Premier League, with the 6-0 thrashing on Saturday proving good shooting practice ahead of a must-win Champions League in midweek.

Mason Mount and Timo Werner both scored twice while there were also goals for Marcos Alonso and Kai Havertz for Chelsea at St. Mary's Stadium.

Southampton has been beaten 9-0 in each of the past two seasons and a similar scoreline looked likely when Mount scored Chelsea's sixth goal in the 54th minute.

The visitors stepped off the pace in the final half-hour, though, perhaps saving some energy before the second leg of their Champions League quarterfinal matchup against Real Madrid on Tuesday.

Madrid won the first leg 3-1 at Stamford Bridge and Thomas Tuchel took the opportunity to withdraw Havertz, Thiago Silva and Mount early.

It could easily have been a heavier loss for Southampton, with Werner striking the goal frame on three occasions in the first half.

Chelsea consolidated third place in the league and moved 10 points behind second-place Liverpool.

A hat-trick by veteran striker Karim Benzema, including two fine headed goals in the space of three first-half minutes, earned Real Madrid a 3-1 win at reigning European champions Chelsea in their Champions League quarter-final first leg on Wednesday.

Benzema, 34, claimed his hat-trick when he pounced on an error by Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy just after halftime to put the Spaniards in control of the tie before Tuesday's second leg in Madrid.

Kai Havertz had restored some hope to the Blues when he headed in an angled pass from Jorginho in the 40th minute to make it 2-1.

But Chelsea's chances of a comeback were undone by Mendy's mistake in the 46th minute when, outside his box, he tried to pass to Antonio Rudiger only for Benzema to intercept and steer the ball into an empty net for his 37th goal of the season.

The France striker rocked Chelsea when he converted pinpoint crosses with headers, first from Vinicius Jr from the left in the 21st minute and then from Luka Modric on the right in the 24th, leaving Mendy with no chance on either occasion.

Benzema had looked certain to claim his hat-trick just before halftime but he fired wide with Chelsea's usually rock-solid defence looking ragged.

"Today we came out to win, to show we're Real Madrid. Things worked out well for us as we played well, from the first minute to the last."

The Spaniards were seeking revenge after the Londoners eliminated them in last season's semi-finals before the Blues won the trophy in Porto.

There was an early warning sign for the Londoners when Vinicius Jr cracked a shot against the bar in the 10th minute.

Chelsea sought to fight back in the second half with the best chance falling to substitute Romelu Lukaku - Chelsea's record signing who has struggled to fit in at Stamford Bridge - but he headed narrowly wide as a deflected ball dropped to him on the edge of the six-yard box in the 69th minute.

In the dying moments, Hakim Ziyech, also on as a sub, fired over from 13 yards.

Real - who have been crowned European champions 13 times but had never previously beaten Chelsea - are now in pole position to advance into the semi-finals to face either Manchester City or crosstown rivals Atletico Madrid.

UEFA Champions League: Karim Benzema scores hat-trick as Real Madrid stun Chelsea 3-1

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel said on Friday he expects discussions over the Premier League club`s sale to intensify over the coming weeks, but he was unsure if he should be meeting potential owners.
The German said last month that he was fully committed to the team and willing to adapt to a new owner`s demands.

European champions Chelsea were initially put up for sale by owner Roman Abramovich following Russia`s invasion of Ukraine before sanctions were imposed on the oligarch by the British government, effectively giving it control of the club. The Ricketts family and groups led by Martin Broughton and Todd Boehly are among the bidders to have been included on a shortlist of potential buyers. British media also reported that Stephen Pagliuca, joint owner of NBA team Boston Celtics, could also be in the running.

"I am not sure if I could tell you the names. It`s my information that it`s down to four and in the next weeks there should be further talks and negotiations," Tuchel told a news conference ahead of Saturday`s Premier League game against Brentford. "I`m not sure if they want to (meet me) and I`m not sure if I should (meet them). Maybe it`s best for me to be involved as late as possible in this." Tuchel also hailed the British government`s decision to amend its operating licence to allow supporters of the club to buy tickets to away games.

Chelsea were unable to sell tickets after the government imposed sanctions on Abramovich, and their home game against Brentford will only be attended by season ticket holders. "We are happy things changed and we can have fans at the FA Cup semi-final and Champions League," Tuchel said. "So everybody has to step up tomorrow and has a responsibility to create a good atmosphere. We need our spectators behind us, so if we are a little bit less, they have to compensate for those missing."

The German added that he could do little to help Chelsea midfielder Jorginho put the disappointment of Italy`s World Cup qualifying loss behind him, stressing that it was the club`s responsibility to create a "safe place" for players. "I`ll be honest, I didn`t speak a lot about that (Italy`s elimination) because what could I say to get his pain away? Nothing," Tuchel said.

"Like always, it`s our job more to create an environment and atmosphere. He came in one day earlier than he needed to be and that`s why I had the feeling he loved to come back and it be a positive environment."
Chelsea are third in the table with 59 points from 28 matches.

"Like always, it`s our job more to create an environment and atmosphere. He came in one day earlier than he needed to be and that`s why I had the feeling he loved to come back and it be a positive environment." Chelsea are third in the table with 59 points from 28 matches.

Thomas Tuchel 'not sure' if he should meet potential Chelsea owners

AC Milan owners Elliott Management have joined the Nick Candy-led Blue Football consortium as a "minor investor" in their bid to buy Premier League club Chelsea, sources close to the deal told Reuters.

Chelsea were initially put up for sale by owner Roman Abramovich following Russia's invasion of Ukraine before sanctions were imposed on the oligarch by the British government, effectively giving it control of the club.

Bidders were expecting to hear back from U.S. bank Raine Group, who are overseeing the sale in conjunction with Chelsea, as to whether they had made a narrowed shortlist earlier this week, but sources said bid revisions have slowed the process.

British property developer Candy's bid was increased on Monday after being joined by "another large Korean financial institution", they said in a statement, with sources adding the consortium has grown further on Thursday.

Elliott Management, an American hedgefund business, have injected a "multi-million pound sum" into the bid, the sources told Reuters.

Elliott became Milan owners in 2018 and have since helped the Italian giants become much more competitive in Serie A. They top the standings and are chasing their first league title in 11 years.

Representatives from Elliott did not immediately respond to Reuters' requests for comment.

Candy had initially been joined in his consortium by South Korean companies Hana Financial Group and C&P Sports Limited before the new investors got on board.

Others who have made their offers public include Chicago Cubs owners the Ricketts family as well as the pairing of former Liverpool chairman Martin Broughton and World Athletics President Sebastian Coe.

London-based global investment firm Centricus also said they had offered to buy Chelsea, a move driven by co-founder Nizar Al-Bassam and CEO Garth Ritchie, who are said to be season-ticket holders.

Chelsea supporters will be able to buy tickets to away games, cup games and women's fixtures after the British government amended the club's special licence, the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) said on Wednesday.

Chelsea will not receive any revenue from the ticket sales, the DCMS added, with all proceeds going to relevant competition organisers.

Premier League Chelsea were unable to sell tickets due to British government restrictions after sanctions were imposed on the club's Russian owner Roman Abramovich following Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

Raine set a deadline of 2100 GMT last Friday for bids to be put forward, with several being made public, while sources close to the deal said many more had been submitted privately.

To move things forward, Reuters has been told that Raine, in consultation with the club, will narrow down the shortlist, with the process slowed by revised bids still coming in.

One of the three bidders who made their offers public on Friday, Candy`s Blue Football consortium, revised their bid on Monday, they told Reuters in a statement, after being joined by "another large Korean financial institution."

British property developer Candy submitted a bid of over two billion pounds ($2.63 billion) to Raine on Friday, but has since increased his offer "significantly", without disclosing by how much or the name of the new investor.

Preferred Buyers

Over the next few weeks, a preferred buyer or buyers will be submitted to the government who must issue a special licence for any sale and who require evidence that Abramovich will not make any financial gain.
From there it will be up to the prospective buyer to pass the Premier League`s Owners` and Directors` Test before completing a takeover.

The test outlines factors that would prohibit an individual from becoming an owner or director of a club.
These include criminal convictions for a wide range of offences, a ban by a sporting or professional body and breaches of certain key football regulations, such as match-fixing.

FA Cup: Liverpool to play Man City in semis after close 1-0 win against Nottingham, Palace to face Chelsea

Chelsea continued to make light of their off-pitch turmoil with another impressive display on it as they reached the FA Cup semi-finals with a 2-0 victory at Middlesbrough on Saturday.

First-half goals by Romelu Lukaku and Hakim Ziyech knocked the stuffing out of second-tier Middlesbrough who had eliminated Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur in previous rounds.

Lukaku tapped in Mason Mount's low cross after 15 minutes before Ziyech fired home 16 minutes later.

Middlesbrough were given raucous support inside the Riverside Stadium but never really looked capable of troubling the visitors who were always in control.

Chelsea, the object of several buyout bids, are operating under a special licence from the British government after Russian owner Roman Abramovich was hit with sanctions following Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

Only a few hundred Chelsea fans were inside the stadium - a consequence of restrictions on them selling tickets - but they could at least celebrate their team reaching the semis for the fifth time in six seasons.

Since Abramovich announced that he was putting the European champions up for sale on March 2 after 19 trophy-laden years, it has been very much business as usual on the pitch.

They have won all six fixtures since, the latest win coming the day after a deadline for bids to buy the club.

Despite the distractions, manager Thomas Tuchel has remained focused on winning games, and the performance of his players on Saturday was clinical.

Chelsea had attracted criticism in midweek for asking for the match to be played without fans to ensure "sporting integrity" in light of them not being able to sell tickets.

They later retracted that request and the Riverside was rocking before kickoff.
But when Mount was allowed to advance down the left and then delivered a slide rule cross to allow Lukaku to tap home, the odds always looked stacked against Boro.

FA Cup: Chelsea continue to ignore off-field turmoil with 2-0 win over Middlesbrough to enter semi-finals

Three bids have been made to purchase English Premier League club Chelsea by groups led by British property developer Nick Candy, Chicago Cubs owners the Ricketts family and the pairing of Martin Broughton and Sebastian Coe.

Premier League Chelsea were initially put up for sale by owner Roman Abramovich following Russia's invasion of Ukraine before sanctions were imposed on the oligarch by the British government, effectively giving it control of the club.

Raine Group, a U.S. bank, has been overseeing the sale process since before the Russian billionaire was sanctioned, and set a 2100 GMT deadline on Friday for offers to be submitted, a deadline three bids have so far officially met.

South Korean companies Hana Financial Group and C&P Sports Limited have joined forces with Candy to bid two billion pounds ($2.64 billion) for Chelsea, a statement from Candy said on Friday.

It added that the consortium also includes "significant investors from Silicon Valley and tech billionaires that own other shareholdings in sports teams in the USA."

"Football clubs are vitally important community and cultural assets, and this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to give football back to the fans and put them at the heart of the operations and strategy of a leading global football club," Candy told Reuters in a statement.

"I believe Chelsea has all of the fundamentals to become the most valuable and respected sports club in the world and a force for the greater good in everything it does."

C&P Sports CEO Catalina Kim had earlier confirmed to Reuters that they and Hana were considering a bid.

"We are in the process of arranging our bid for Chelsea FC," a statement read.

"Surprisingly enough, despite the size of the economy, there has never been investment into (English) Premier League football clubs made by South Korean capital so far."

"Now it is time for a change and we are ready to start the new chapter with Chelsea FC."

The owners of U.S. baseball team the Chicago Cubs, the Ricketts family, confirmed to Reuters that they had also made a bid for Chelsea, in conjunction with Citadel founder Ken Griffin.

Former British Airways chairman Broughton has teamed up with president of World Athletics Coe to become the third party to make an offer late on Friday.

"I am assembling a team that will ensure the future success and financial stability of a club I've supported for over 60 years," Broughton said in a statement.

"We will secure a prompt purchase and smooth transition, with funds readily available for the immediate takeover of the club and immediate investment in the team, facilities, and commercial opportunities.

"I believe I am the right person to lead Chelsea as we start this new chapter for the club."

Further bidders are expected to be confirmed in the coming days, with a source close to the dealings telling Reuters that Swiss billionaire Hansjoerg Wyss, who has linked up with LA Dodgers co-owner Todd Boehly, British businessman Jonathan Goldstein and Conservative peer Daniel Finkelstein, has also submitted an offer.

MISUNDERSTANDING

Turkish businessman Muhsin Bayrak, who had previously expressed interest in the club, said late on Friday that his company AB Group Holding had not filed a bid to Raine Bank.

Bayrak blamed AB Group's failure to meet the deadline due to a misunderstanding with his lawyers over the auction procedure. "I am very upset," he told Reuters.

According to emails seen by Reuters, AB Group's lawyers contacted the UK Department for Digital, Culture Media & Sport using a generic email address to file an enquiry, rather than to file a bid to the U.S. investment bank.

Hana Financial Group is a South Korean investment bank and financial services company headquartered in Seoul, Korea. The group is also the title sponsor of the Korean Football League and the national soccer team.

C&P Sports Limited is a leading sports consultancy company based in London and Seoul.

C&P Sports has worked on commercial deals with several big clubs in the last 10 years, such as Kumhos Tyres with Tottenham Hotspur, Nexen Tyre with Manchester City and Hyundai Motors with Atletico Madrid.

Candy, a lifelong Chelsea fan, had been joined by former Blues player and manager Gianluca Vialli as he prepared his bid.

"I have met Nick Candy on a number of occasions over the last few weeks and I am fully behind his visions," Italian Vialli said in a statement after it was announced the company he co-founded, Tifosy, will act as lead advisor for the process.

Three bids have been made to purchase English Premier League club Chelsea by groups led by British property developer Nick Candy, Chicago Cubs owners the Ricketts family and the pairing of Martin Broughton and Sebastian Coe.

"Football clubs are vitally important community and cultural assets, and this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to give football back to the fans and put them at the heart of the operations and strategy of a leading global football club," Candy told Reuters in a statement. "I believe Chelsea has all of the fundamentals to become the most valuable and respected sports club in the world and a force for the greater good in everything it does." C&P Sports CEO Catalina Kim had earlier confirmed to Reuters that they and Hana were considering a bid. "We are in the process of arranging our bid for Chelsea FC," a statement read. "Surprisingly enough, despite the size of the economy, there has never been investment into (English) Premier League football clubs made by South Korean capital so far." "Now it is time for a change and we are ready to start the new chapter with Chelsea FC." The owners of U.S. baseball team the Chicago Cubs, the Ricketts family, confirmed to Reuters that they had also made a bid for Chelsea, in conjunction with Citadel founder Ken Griffin. "I believe I am the right person to lead Chelsea as we start this new chapter for the club." Further bidders are expected to be confirmed in the coming days, with a source close to the dealings telling Reuters that Swiss billionaire Hansjoerg Wyss, who has linked up with LA Dodgers co-owner Todd Boehly, British businessman Jonathan Goldstein and Conservative peer Daniel Finkelstein, has also submitted an offer. MISUNDERSTANDING Turkish businessman Muhsin Bayrak, who had previously expressed interest in the club, said late on Friday that his company AB Group Holding had not filed a bid to Raine Bank. UEFA Champions League quarterfinals draw: Chelsea to take on Real Madrid, Manchester City face Atletico

Russian businessman Roman Abramovich transferred a company he controlled with tens of millions of dollars of investments to a director of English soccer club Chelsea on the day Russia invaded Ukraine, UK corporate filings showed.

It was the second time Chelsea owner Abramovich moved assets to a close associate before Britain and the European Union imposed sanctions on him this month.

After Britain was initially slower than the United States and the European Union in imposing sanctions following the Feb. 24 invasion, British lawmakers complained that the government was giving oligarchs time to move their assets out of the country before any curbs were announced.

Abramovich did not respond to requests for comment left with Chelsea and his spokesperson. A British government spokesperson did not respond to a request for comment.

Abramovich, 55, became one of Russia`s most powerful entrepreneurs mostly from oil and aluminium during the chaotic aftermath of the 1991 break-up of the Soviet Union. Forbes last month put his net worth at more than $13 billion.

Britain and the EU imposed sanctions such as asset freezes on Abramovich and hundreds of Russian individuals and entities, targeting people accused of propping up Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Abramovich has denied having close to links to Putin.

A Reuters analysis of corporate filings in London and Amsterdam showed Abramovich was previously listed as the "beneficial owner" of Cyprus-based Ervington Investments Limited. The company has made investments in at least eight firms, including in Russia`s top search engine Yandex, the filings showed.

On Feb. 24, Eugene Tenenbaum, a director of Chelsea who is described on the club website as one of Abramovich`s "closest associates", took full control of Ervington, according to a filing with the London Stock Exchange. Neither Britain, the EU nor the United States has placed sanctions on Tenenbaum.

Tenenbaum said in a statement to Reuters that his company purchased Ervington Investments from a trust in which Abramovich and his children were previously the beneficiaries. He said the purchase from the trust, called Norma Investments, was in compliance with laws and regulations. Tenenbaum declined to say how much he paid for the stake.

"Ervington is a company that I have worked with for many years," he said. "I know the company`s investments and employees well, and buying Ervington provides me with an opportunity to continue to work with this business, under my control and for my, and the employees` benefit."

ASSET MOVEMENTS

London-based lawyers said the move meant that the assets held by Ervington would not be subject to the freeze imposed on Abramovich`s other assets.

Abramovich has handed control of two companies to business associates since the war began, according to corporate filings.

Also on the first day of Russia`s attack on Ukraine, which Moscow calls a special operation, Abramovich moved Norma Investments to another associate, David Davidovich, UK corporate filings showed. The Norma transfer was first reported by the Wall Street Journal and has been confirmed in the filings.

Reuters was unable to reach Davidovich immediately for comment.

Britain imposed sanctions on Abramovich on March 10, saying he had profited from transactions with the Russian government and special tax breaks.

The British government said Evraz, a steel company in which Abramovich is the largest shareholder, could contribute to the war against Ukraine and supply steel for Russian tanks. Evraz has denied this, saying it only supplies steel to the infrastructure and construction sectors.

Evraz has not been sanctioned by the British government. Its London-listed shares were suspended by Britain`s Financial Conduct Authority after Abramovich was sanctioned. Tenenbaum was among 10 of Evraz`s board members who quit on March 11 because of the Abramovich sanctions, the company said.

Abramovich put reigning European champions Chelsea up for sale on March 2, but following the sanctions announcement, the club was made to operate under a special licence and is now effectively controlled by the British government.

Several potential buyers of Chelsea have confirmed their interest and the deadline for the first round of bids is Friday.

Tenenbaum, 57, was born in Ukraine when it was part of the Soviet Union and has been on Chelsea`s board for 19 years. He was previously the head of corporate finance at Sibneft, an oil company sold in 2006 by Abramovich. Tenenbaum said in his statement that he does not agree with the way Abramovich has been publicly characterised.

The British government said when it sanctioned Abramovich that he had been a close ally of Putin for decades.
"It is my hope that the unjust measures imposed on Mr Abramovich will be reassessed," he said. "Unfortunately, as a British citizen and due to the new regulations, I am unable to continue to work with him personally."

Ervington has served as an investment vehicle for Abramovich for at least eight years. It was among investors who put $600 million into Yandex in 2020 and who put money into Via, a ride-sharing app.

Tenenbaum moved to Canada at a young age and previously worked for accounting firm KPMG in Toronto, Moscow and London, according to the Chelsea website.

Roman Abramovich handed Chelsea director control of firm on day of Ukraine invasion

Holders Chelsea made light of their off-pitch problems to reach the Champions League quarter-finals by beating Lille 2-1 away on Wednesday to complete a 4-1 aggregate victory.

The Premier League side, playing amid sanctions imposed on their Russian owner Roman Abramovich following Russia's invasion of Ukraine, eased through thanks to goals by Christian Pulisic and Cesar Azpilicueta.

French champions Lille dominated for long spells and opened the scoring thanks to a Burak Yilmaz penalty in the opening half, but lacked precision upfront and paid dearly for lapses in concentration.

Chelsea, operating on a special licence from the British government that has limited their spending and impacted their operations, showed great composure to ease into the last eight.

"Everyone is calm at the club. The club's culture is about football. Football is the priority at Chelsea, that's why we're focused on what happens on the pitch," Chelsea coach Thomas Tuchel told French TV channel RMC Sport.

At their Pierre Mauroy stadium, Lille had made the better start to the match.

Jocelyn Gouvennec's side put Chelsea on the back foot as Mateo Kovacic, Jorginho and N'Golo Kante struggled to take control of the midfield.

Lille were rewarded in the 38th minute when they were awarded a penalty following a VAR review after a Jorginho handball in the area.

The 36-year-old Yilmaz, the third oldest scorer in the Champions League knockout stages after Paolo Maldini and Ryan Giggs, buried the spot-kick into the top corner to give the hosts a deserved lead and high hopes of an upset after losing the first leg 2-0 at Stamford Bridge.

Lille, who had not conceded a goal in their three Ligue 1 games since the first leg, let their guard down, however, and Chelsea punished them with their first shot on target as Pulisic collected a fine through ball from Jorginho to score with a low shot three minutes into first-half stoppage time.

Although they were hit by injuries which forced Sven Botman and Zeki Celik to leave the pitch, Lille applied more pressure after the break and Yilmaz wasted two clear chances.

Chelsea were far more ruthless and after 71 minutes Mason Mount's cross bounced off Azpilicueta's knee into the top corner to end Lille's hopes of reaching the last eight.

The result left Lille frustrated after a good performance that ended in defeat.

"I'm frustrated by the result, and by the fact that we missed out on qualification," said midfielder Amadou Onana.
