<p>At least 24 people have been killed while 35 are injured after a bus veered off a cliff in the mountainous region of southeastern Peru, according to news agency AFP.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The inter-city bus was travelling overnight in the Andes mountain between Huancayo and Huanta when it careened off into a 200m-deep (650 ft) ravine. Locals were the first to arrive on the scene and managed to pull out some passengers who were alive inside the mangled vehicle.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The firefighters from Huanta and the province of Churcampa were quickly dispatched to the area, but not before two dozen people had lost their lives.</p>

<p>"The number of dead has risen to 24, including two children," the health ministry posted on social media.</p>

<p>So far, the authorities have not revealed what might have caused the fatal accident. However, the mayor of a nearby town told a local radio channel that the accident occurred on the spot that had been left damaged after a landslide a month ago. The mayor added that the spot had not been repaired and could have potentially caused the unfortunate accident.&nbsp;</p>

<p>At least 16 people died while 11 others were injured after a passenger bus collided with a pick-up truck carrying drums of diesel on the motorway near&nbsp;Pindi Bhattian, a city located in Punjab, Pakistan, according to <em>Dawn</em>.</p>

<p>The bus, carrying approximately 35 to 40 passengers was headed to&nbsp;Islamabad from Karachi when the accident took place around 4:30 am on Sunday (August 20).&nbsp;Hafizabad District Police Officer (DPO) Dr Fahad Ahmad said the bus immediately caught fire after the collision which added to the casualty toll. Mexico: At least 27 killed in tragic bus accident in Oaxaca state

<p>A bus carrying 75 pilgrims to Katra from Amritsar fell into a deep gorge on the Jammu-Srinagar national highway near Jhajjar Kotli on Tuesday. At least 10 people were killed, while 57 were reported injured, as of the last update.</p>

<p>Initial reports suggest that CRPF, police and emergency services have arrived at the spot. The dead bodies and injured have been taken to Jammu's&nbsp;Government Medical College&nbsp;hospital. A rescue operation is currently underway.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Those critically injured have been brought to GMC Jammu. 12 others have been admitted at local public health centre," Deputy Commissioner (DC) Jammu Avny Lavasa was quoted as saying by ANI.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Chandan Kohli, SSP Jammu updated the death and injured toll saying eight had died while the rescue operation was underway.&nbsp;</p>

<p>So far, five dead bodies have been identified while efforts are underway to retrieve the “extensively damaged vehicle.” The bus had veered off the road and rolled several times before landing in a ditch around 100 metres from the road.</p>

<p>The area in which the accident took place is also known as the blackspot. The mourners had travelled over 150 kilometres to attend the funeral and were returned in the evening, reported AP.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Okul also told the news agency that the brakes on the bus failed, however, Inspector General of Police, Japhet Koome, said the driver may have been driving on neutral when he lost control.</p>

<p>“There’s a tendency of long-distance drivers freewheeling to save on fuel. This is carelessness because in case of an emergency one has no control,” said Koome.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Raigad Superintendent of Police (SP) Somnath Gharge revealed that the bus' passengers are from Sion and Goregaon in Mumbai and Virar in the neighbouring Palghar district.&nbsp;</p>

At least 7 killed, 18 injured after bus crash in eastern Turkey

<p>At least 15 people have been killed and 40 others injured following a bus accident in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh (MP). Reports suggest that the passenger bus was headed for Uttar Pradesh when it collided with a stationary truck between 10:30 pm to 11:00 pm (local time) on Friday.&nbsp;</p>

<p>According to officials, the bus was headed to UP’s Gorakhpur from Hyderabad in the&nbsp;state of Telangana when it collided with a stationary trailer truck on the national highway (NH) 30. They also indicated that at least 12 people were killed on the spot and two others succumbed while they were being taken to the hospital.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The district’s superintendent of police (SP) said, “Of the 40 injured 25 have been admitted to Sanjay Gandhi Hospital in Rewa (MP) where one person succumbed to his injuries. The death toll has increased to 15.” Reportedly a majority of the passengers of the bus were labourers who were on their way home to celebrate the festival of Diwali.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Speaking about the accident, Rewa's collector Manoj Pushp&nbsp;said, “It seems that the truck had an accident and when the driver applied brakes, the bus behind it rammed into it. Rescue operations were carried out and the injured have been sent to hospital.”</p>

<p>Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan spoke to his counterpart in UP, Yogi Adityanath and informed him about the accident. According to reports, the MP state government said that they will bear the treatment cost&nbsp;of those injured.&nbsp;</p>

<p>On the other hand, the UP CM has announced a compensation of Rs. 2 lakh to the families of those who passed away and Rs 50,000 for those injured. President Droupadi Murmu in a statement also expressed sadness over the incident, and offered condolences to the bereaved families and wished a speedy recovery for the injured.&nbsp;</p>

India: Bus escapes fatal fall into sea, hits bridge railings in Tamil Nadu

<p>At least 25 people died after a bus carrying around 50 passengers of a marriage party fell into a 500-metre gorge in India’s northern Uttarakhand state.</p>

<p>The accident took place on Tuesday around 7.30 pm in Pauri district when the bus was on its way to Bironkhal village from Laldhang, police said on Wednesday.</p>

<p>"According to the information received so far, 25 people have died in this accident. 20 people have been rescued and sent to the hospital, some of whom are seriously injured," the Uttarakhand police said in a tweet.</p>

<p>They said that the bus skidded off the road and fell into the gorge near Simri bend.</p>

<p>Twenty people were injured in the accident as rescue operations were carried out throughout the night.</p>

<p>The state police chief tweeted visuals from the overnight operation, in which injured passengers can be seen taken to safety.&nbsp;</p>

<p>An Air Force official said that the accident took place during the exercise in Ampara, Eastern Province, when the parachutes of the two airmen collided over 8,000 feet in the sky.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The other Air Force man sustained injuries and was rushed to the Ampara Hospital.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The deceased officer was identified as a 34-year-old Squadron Leader of the Sri Lanka Air Force.&nbsp;</p>
