According to a report by the news agency Reuters on Friday, a SpaceX Crew Dragon capsule carrying the Axiom quartet lifted off atop a Falcon 9 rocket from NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Florida.</p>

<p>Crew Dragon was expected to reach the International Space Station (ISS) early on Saturday morning and dock with the outpost orbiting some 400 kilometres above Earth and currently occupied by seven regular crew members.</p>

<p>On April 2, 1984, Rakesh Sharma became the first Indian citizen to reach outer space. He was aboard Soviet Soyuz T-11 rocket which was launched from Baiknour Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan which was then part of Soviet Russia.</p>

<p>Sharma was in space for seven days, 21 hours and 40 minutes. With his space travel, India became the 14th nation to have its astronaut sent to space.&nbsp;</p>

On Thursday (September 28), Larry Connor will attempt highest HALO (High Altitude, Low Open) skydive in the skies of New Mexico in USA.</p>

<p>The 73-year-old businessman will not be jumping alone. Accompanying him will be members of his 'Alpha 5' team which consists of current and former US Air Force Special Warfare Pararescue Specialists.</p>

<p>"To break the existing world record for the highest HALO formation skydive, the team will ascend to an altitude of 35,000 feet [10,700 metres] using a specially designed balloon," says the project's website.</p>

<p>"From there, they will link arms and form a five-person formation before safely separating and landing," it says. "A representative from Guinness World Records will be present to assess and validate the record-setting achievement."</p>

<p>The balloon that'll take the team to the high altitude is the largest balloon ever manufactured in the US.</p>

<p>However, the skydive is highly dependent on weather and the team has said that date and time may shift in case of adverse conditions. The jump window is through October 15.</p>

<p>The skydive is an effort to raise funds for the Special Operations Warrior Foundation. The aim is to raise USD 1 million.</p>

<p>"The Special Operations Warrior Foundation's enduring promise to America's Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine Corps Special Operations personnel is to honor the fallen, and all Medal of Honor recipients, by providing full educations and additional opportunities, 'cradle to career' (preschool-college), to their children," reads the website of Special Operations Warrior Foundation.</p>

<p>HALO skydives, as the full form suggests, are characterised by a jump from very high altitude and opening of the parachute just few hundred feet from the ground.</p>

<p>For comparison, recreational skydiving involves jumping from about 15000 feet and opening of parachute when the skydiver is at 3000 feet. In HALO skydiving, the actual jump takes place at twice the altitude and the skydiver opens his or her parachute when merely 800 feet above the ground.</p>

Astronaut returns to Earth after a record-breaking stay in space. Watch LIVE!

<p>Two Russian cosmonauts and an American astronaut docked with the&nbsp;International Space Station (ISS) on Friday (September 15), hours after setting off for the journey from Earth.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Roscosmos cosmonauts Oleg Kononenko and Nikolai Chub and NASA astronaut Loral O'Hara successfully lifted off for the ISS aboard the&nbsp;Soyuz MS-24 spacecraft, from the&nbsp;Baikonur cosmodrome in Kazakhstan, earlier in the day.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Three hours later, the crew docked at the ISS, according to the Russian space agency.&nbsp;The first to come aboard the ISS was O’Hara followed by Chub and Kononenko. The three new entrants were received by&nbsp;cosmonauts Sergey Prokopyev, Dmitri Petelin and astronaut Frank Rubio who opened the hatch.&nbsp;</p>

<p>After entering the Soviet module, they joined&nbsp;NASA astronauts Jasmin Moghbeli,&nbsp;Russian&nbsp; cosmonaut Konstantin Borisov, Denmark's Andreas Mogensen and Japan's Satoshi Furukawa for the mission’s welcoming remarks.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Despite heightened tension between the two countries due to the ongoing war in Ukraine, space remains the only frontier where the two superpowers are still collaborating.</p>

He added that the maiden unmanned mission of Gaganyaan would be carried out in early-2024 and the astronaut mission would be attempted in late-2024 or early-2025. India's efforts towards Gaganyaan are being supported by Russia, US, Japan, France, European Union etc.</p>

<p>However, a $55 million or Rs.440 crore price tag awaits each passenger who wishes to travel to space on a private mission like the Saudi Astronauts did. This $55mn cost is said to cover the two-way transportation, 10-day orbital stay and a 15-week astronaut training programme.&nbsp;</p>

<p>ISRO officials have said on various occasions that India's Gaganyaan is not a one-off mission and will have several follow-on missions. As a nation with end-to-end space capability (ability to design, develop, build and launch rockets and satellites indigenously), India aspires to have a sustained human presence in space, possibly an Indian Space Station. Till the time that plan becomes a reality, ISRO-NASA missions to the ISS and similar efforts could provide a great wealth of learnings and experience for India's space science community and aid in developing India's own plans and resources towards sustained human presence in Low Earth Orbit.</p>

<p>At 5.11 p.m. (UAE time), AlNeyadi and veteran NASA astronaut Stephen Bowen began their more than six-hour spacewalk. They were helped into their gear by NASA flight engineers Woody Hoburg and Frank Rubio, who were present on board the ISS. "Sultan, congratulations, you are making history today." Hoburg said.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Al Neyadi participated in the NASA SpaceX Crew-6 mission, which sent him to the International Space Station, on March 2.&nbsp;The UAE astronaut al Neyadi also celebrated Eid al-Fitr this year at the ISS whereby he sent his wishes to everyone from sky-high on Friday with a video message shared on his social media account. &nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p>Bowen, who was the lead spacewalker on his eighth spacewalk. He was the first to exit the Joint Quest Airlock on the ISS in red stripes spacesuit. AlNeyadi took the first step outside the ISS at 5:39 p.m. (UAE time).&nbsp;</p>

<p>During the live transmission, AlNeyadi can be heard receiving praise from the NASA crew in Houston for his excellent work. "That was impressive, Sultan. You have a surgeon's hands,” the ground controller told the Emirati astronaut.</p>

<p>The two astronauts and the NASA ground controller were in continual contact. AlNeyadi and Bowen were further instructed to inspect their gloves and helmet absorption pad (HAP) after every 90 minutes to make sure there was no moisture inside of their helmets or rips in their gloves.</p>

<p>The oxygen levels, water use for cooling, battery power, and carbon dioxide removal were all observed by the ground teams.&nbsp;The first assignment, prepping a section of the ISS for the construction of a future solar array, was successfully finished by Al Neyadi and Bowen.</p>

<p>However, they were unable to complete the second task, removing an outdated component of the Radio Frequency Group. They faced trouble trying to remove the bolts which were holding the ISS antenna in place. Even after exerting pressure and being told to use a hammer, the two astronauts were unable to remove it.</p>

<p>Then, NASA gave them the go-ahead to forego retrieving the unit that was intended to be retrieved from space and returned to the station for refurbishment.</p>

<p>UAE astronaut Sultan al Neyadi, who is celebrating the occasion of Eid al-Fitr this year at the International Space Station, sent his wishes to everyone from sky-high on Friday with a video message shared on his social media account.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p>In a video he posted on Twitter, Al Neyadi was seen floating in zero gravity at the ISS alongside his companion ‘astro’ Suhail. Suhail is a mascot for the nation's space mission. Suhail tagged along Dr Al Neyadi and his crewmates as they took off from the Kennedy Space Centre early March.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In his special message from zero gravity, the astronaut was seen making jokes about how Suhail and he both are wearing their best attire for the feast for Eid al-Fitr.&nbsp;He sent his wishes to his family, his country, and everyone across the world.</p>

<p>On March 2, Al Neyadi took part in NASA's SpaceX Crew-6 mission, which sent him to the International Space Station. On April 28, he is slated to go for a spacewalk.</p>

<p>However, in mid-December, MS-22 started leaking coolant after being struck by what US and Russian space experts think was a minor space pebble. The launch was also delayed Monday when concerns were raised about the Progress MS-21, a Russian supply ship stationed at the International Space Station, which had also experienced coolant leakage.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"A decision has been taken to postpone the launch of the Soyuz MS-23 spacecraft in an unmanned mode until March 2023," the Russian space agency said. "We stress that nothing threatens the life and health of the crew," it added. "Until the cause of the emergency situation is determined, a decision was made to postpone the launch of the Soyuz MS-23 spacecraft," Roscosmos said.</p>

<p>Now a state commission has to sign off on the new date. The state commission was anticipated to accept the revised launch date, the Roscosmos official told AFP. The Progress cargo ship will be de-orbited on February 19, according to a second statement from the space agency.</p>

<p>Mohammed Al-Tamini, the CEO of the Saudi Space agency expressed his gratitude toward the project.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Through this programme, the country seeks to activate its scientific research that will positively reflect on the future of the space industry and overall.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Dev aspires to be the second Indian to match Sharma's feat&nbsp;as India's own national astronaut mission 'Gaganyaan' is expected to kick off, only by the end of 2024 or later.</p>

<p>"It was my interest about space that motivated me to try and apply, sometime in 2021 when the applications were invited...Then on, there were assignments, Zoom meetings and finally an in-person meeting with Yusaku Maezawa in 2021 (at a location that I'm not permitted to disclose)," Joshi recalls.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The youngster says he cherished his&nbsp;interactions with the 47-year-old Japanese billionaire as both shared their aspirations and outlook.</p>

<p>"He didn't have the airs of a big billionaire, we enjoyed a game of table tennis and listened to music together."</p>

<p>Several rigorous and expensive medical tests and interviews later, Dev knew that he had made it to the "dear Moon CREW". However, it was only in December 2022 that the formal announcement was made.</p>

<p>Dev sees it as a huge opportunity for his generation and his home country India, as this is a first-of-its-kind project and the most ambitious space tourism venture.</p>

<p>His co-passengers on this mission are artists from across domains, hailing from South Korea, USA, UK, Japan, Czech Republic, and Ireland.</p>

<p>"Even today only astronauts and scientists are going to space and beyond...I believe that a team of diverse artists heading to Lunar orbit will give rise to artistic perspectives about the experience and will inspire the next generation... We are even having a discussion on what we can carry to space - musical instruments, cameras,costumes etc.," Joshi says.&nbsp;</p>

<p>While there is cheer and excitement about this journey, there are immense risks involved because it's an all-new rocket and spacecraft and the crew onboard is a team without a scientific background.</p>

<p>Following the first orbital test of the new rocket, sometime in 2023, the crew is expected to undergo rigorous training to undertake the journey.</p>

<p>Dev's businessman father Dushyant and homemaker mother Devangna are equally excited about what lies ahead for their son. Dev held discussions and sought his parents' mentorship at every stage of the process.&nbsp;<br />
"Not much fear...of course it is risky...we are excited...the feeling cannot be expressed in words..." the parents say.</p>

<p>It&nbsp;must be remembered, despite their experience of the Apollo lunar landing missions in the 60s and 70s, even NASA is taking a safe approach by performing unmanned flights to the moon, before the actual manned mission as part of the ongoing Artemis programme.</p>

<p>In a significant step toward enabling persons with physical disabilities to work and live in space, the European Space Agency on Wednesday announced the first-ever "parastronaut."&nbsp;The 22-nation organisation said&nbsp;that it had chosen former British Paralympic sprinter John McFall as one of the 17 new hires chosen for astronaut training.&nbsp;</p>

<p>He will participate in a feasibility study that will enable the ESA to determine the prerequisites for persons with impairments to participate in the next missions.</p>

<p>"It's been quite a whirlwind experience, given that as an amputee, I'd never thought that being an astronaut was a possibility, so excitement was a huge emotion," McFall said in an interview posted on ESA's website.</p>

<p>After the ESA filled its astronaut ranks for the first time since 2009, he will train with 11 reserves&nbsp;and five new career astronauts.&nbsp;</p>

<p>People who are completely capable of passing the ESA's customary rigorous psychological, cognitive, and other exams were invited to apply for positions last year. These individuals are only barred from becoming astronauts because of the limitations of the available hardware in light of their disability.&nbsp;</p>
