He has most recently charmed the audience by playing the serious yet intriguing Sammit Patel, a man who comes out of a coma after years in the Zee5 show Duranga. In an exclusive interview with WION, Sadh talked about how he brought the role of Sammit Patel to life, his preparation, and much more. He also shared his views on AI, a technology that has been perceived as a threat to the human race in many different aspects. Sadh also shared the names of two actors he dreams of working with. Watch new video WION: Your character in Duranga 2 looks very interesting, as he's all set to take revenge on Gulshan Devaiah's character. So, what do you love about the role and find interesting in season 2? Amit: For me, Sammit Patel is a character shrouded in mystery and intrigue. He’s a complex individual with hidden motives. He’s also someone you can't put a finger on. Which I think makes him more interesting. He’s been in a coma for 14 years, and how he will wake up, how he moves, his body language, complexity and of course, he wants his identity back. What attracted me towards the show was the script and its unique and very gripping story that immediately caught my attention. It also kind of goes into the dark aspects of human nature, and that complexity appealed to me as an actor. WION: Tell us more about your character Sammit Patel, how did you prepare for the role and what do you think of it? Amit: For the preparation of this role, I had to understand the physicality and emotional depth of this character. One crucial aspect for me was also harnessing the C-shape of the spine, which is fundamental in conveying the character’s emotions and intentions. Like a person, who’s been in a coma for 14 years, how will you walk? how will his spine be? how will his muscles be? Understanding the inner world is when you create it, when you kind of align the physical presence and all this understanding of the emotions. I think this character is so childlike. When he’s angry, he’s angry, when he’s happy he’s happy. For me, it was like creating a physical embodiment that resonates with the audience. Every character has its own psychosis. I’ve never done a character like this, and I also dedicate considerable time to researching real-life cases of individuals with similar traits and then kind of add my imagination of how I think this character would behave. In that, I think I have gone all out, and it’s been a fun journey for me to also understand the emotional journey of this character and this character's motivation, so it’s like a chef will never like talking about his recipe. Name one character of yours that had a huge impact on you. Amit: I think it’s my character Kabir Sawant in Breathe: Into the Shadows. Also, I played it for three seasons. I was with that character for 7 years, and it gave me a lot of love. It was a tough character. So, that is something. I mean, I still feel that some parts of that character are still in me, and will take time to go. WION: OTT has been a game-changer for many actors, and in recent years, we have gotten many good actors from the medium. Your views on this! Amit: It’s just that in OTT, more movies are coming out, and more web shows coming out. Because the movie business is dominated by distribution aspects, that’s why we can’t make so many movies, and we only have 52 weeks. How many movies do you make? Now because there are so many OTT platforms, you can tell more stories and you’re not worried about distribution. Plus, OTT is under the net, which means you're just not making movies for India, the whole world can watch them, and that means you’re just not making movies for India the whole world can watch and that if you ask me has shrunk the world. It has also brought a lot of inclusivity, a lot of countries understanding each other's cinema, culture, people, and behaviour, and because there’s so much work now, a lot of actors who maybe got ignored or missed because of that distribution pressure got the opportunity. For example, I did a movie on ZEE5 called Barot House, which was a huge hit, and it would have never been made if it was just theatrical. So, it’s of course positive, it’s amazing, life is growing, AI is coming, these all tools are here for more work and more distribution, and I just hope we use them properly and responsibly. WION: When it comes to AI, what do you think of it, especially looking at the actors’ and writers’ strikes in Hollywood? Amit: My only suggestion to everyone is that we really don’t have much knowledge of it. Just because we think that there is a strike in Hollywood, we are all talking about AI; it’s very integrated. We are not that qualified to talk about it. I have trust in humanity, I have trust in human leadership, and I know we’ll all have solidarity, whether it is us actors, associations, or different media in different aspects of life where there is human life, there is human talent and human protection. Yes, the world is growing forward, and yes there is the technology and I am sure I have complete faith in the human race that we will utilise these inventions and marvels of today’s world in the world of tomorrow for the benefit and growth of human beings for the livelihood to be protected and the sanity to be protected, so I am very very confident about that. It’s just that I think it’s a nice conversation, everybody saying that AI is going to mess it up. AI is much more integrated. There is much more in our lives than we know. Amit: Working with Mr Amitabh Bachchan was my dream, and I will always cherish that experience for the rest of my life. If there is any actor that I want to work with right now is Shah Rukh sir. I would like to do a movie with Shah Rukh Khan. I just hope he doesn’t make me a villain in it, because I will not be able to hit him. I would like to do a movie with Mohanlal. <p>After an edgy season 1, <em>Duranga</em> will be back with yet another season and this time the makers promise an even more compelling storyline that will keep you on the edge of your seats. The show, featuring Amit Sadh, Drashti Dhami and Gulshan Devaiah as leading characters, tells the story of a troubled man who juggles between his past life and present and never lets the two ever meet as he hides a lot of secrets and starts getting crushed under all that baggage.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Speaking to Amit Sadh who plays Sammit Patel in the OTT show that is streaming on ZEE5, we get under the skin of his mysterious character who stays in a coma for the entire first season but has plans of waking up and taking back his life from someone who is posing as Sammit.<em> Excerpts:&nbsp;</em></p>

<p><strong>WION:</strong> This character is complex and psychotic. Was it easy for you to switch off and get out of this character post the shoot?</p>

<p><strong>Amit Sadh:</strong> It's never easy to switch off from a character like Sammit Patel. I carried some of his traits with me, but I always make sure to detach myself from the character once the shoot is over. It's essential to maintain that separation for my mental well-being.</p>

<p><strong>WION: </strong>Since <em>Duranga </em>season 1&nbsp;was a big hit, was there added pressure in terms of living up to the audience’s expectations?</p>

<p><strong>Amit Sadh:</strong> There was definitely added pressure to live up to the audience's expectations after the success of the first season. However, I believe we have worked hard to deliver an even better second season that will not disappoint. The pressure, in a way, motivates us to give our best.</p>

Sticking together right from childhood, the four indulge in criminal activities including smuggling, bootlegging and trading of illegal arms. We also see a cameo by Sanjay Mishra who plays the role of Chaman and is the primary reason why the gang came together in the first place. The cast includes Shruti Haasan as well, who plays the role of Sukanya- the love interest and later, wife of Phagun. Contrary to her outspoken leftist past in the movie, she barely has any say with how things unfold after her marriage.</p>

<p>The narrative of the film is non-linear and keeps going back and forth in time. Yaara begins in the year 1997 with the chaukadi gang being split-up and the arrest of one of its members. We are then taken back to the early 1950s where the viewer is told the story of how the gang was formed and managed to stick together through thick and think. The 1970's socio-political environment is displayed with the portraits of Jayaprakash Narayan on the walls of Patna where the gang robs a bank. There was also a mention of a massacre by upper-caste men in a village in Jehanabad where 61 people were killed. Reminding us that the time was dominated by a corrupt government and caste politics.</p>

<p>We also go back to the evolution of fashion with a glimpse of the 70s and 80s through actors flaunting bell-bottom pants and printed shirts. The film is full of old Bollywood references, such as Bahadur's mimicry of Amitabh Bachchan's evergreen dialogues and the posters of <em>Sholay </em>and <em>Amar Akbar Anthony</em>.</p>

<p><em>Yaara</em> tries really hard to impress the audience but still fails. A major reason could be abrupt writing. Each decade in the movie shows a different part of the gang's life but they all seem to have abrupt endings. Even though the movie has a decent run time of 133 minutes, it starts testing your patience after the first half an hour itself. It feels as if the plot is not going anywhere and the viewer just keeps on waiting for the movie to pick up and get back on track. Sadly that never happens. With a disappointing screenplay and substandard editing, Yaara is not among Tigmanshu Dhulia's best work for sure.</p>

<p>The music of the film was not great and no song was exceptionally brilliant. There were unnecessarily far too many songs in <em>Yaara.</em> Some were even without any context and felt like they were put just for the heck of it. Even though it was a crime drama, they got a bit overboard with people shooting each other with gunshot noises coming basically every 10 minutes in the film.</p>

<p>Vidyut Jammwal fails to impress us with his 'unrealistic' action sequences. The one in which he successfully escapes after defeating around 5-10 policemen on his own. Not to forget, without a scratch on his body. The overall acting of the cast was just about average and the film seemed longer than its run time.</p>

But never for her achievements or individuality. That's something Bollywood mothers are devoid of having. Filmmaker Anu Menon takes mathematician Shakuntala Devi's life as the backdrop of her film 'Shakuntala Devi' but puts forth the story of a difficult daughter and a difficult and ambitious mother who is anything like the quintessential mother that Bollywood has churned from time to time.</p>

<p>The film opens with Anuradha Banerjee (Sanya Malhotra) pressing criminal charges on her mother, the famous mathematician Shakuntala Devi(Vidya Balan) for fraudulently taking away all her money. The mother and daughter have had a strained relationship for years, with Anu severing contact with her mother to marry her boyfriend Anand (Amit Sadh) who Shakuntala thought was not good enough for her.</p>

<p>The story then travels back in time, to Shakuntala's childhood whereas a child prodigy who could solve complicated math problems with a blink of an eye, she was considered a novelty. Homeschooled, Shakuntala was the sole bread earner in her family of four where her father would take her to various schools, colleges for 'shows' where the audience would give Shakuntala complicated math problems to solve and the little girl standing on stage would solve them in a jiffy and earn money in the process.</p>

With a bit of help from her Spanish mentor Javier, Shakuntala rises the ranks, continues with her shows and becomes popular as the only human whose brain is sharper and faster than a computer when it comes to solving maths problems. Over three decades, the film highlights Shakuntala's rise to stardom, her marriage to IAS officer Paritosh Banerji (Jisshu Sengupta), motherhood, divorce, and her complicated relationship with her daughter.</p>

<p>Now, biopics are detailed. They are always full of anecdotes that highlight the protagonist's achievements but writer Nayanika Mahtani and Menon try to show all aspects of Shakuntala Devi's character, steering clear of whitewashing. She may be an achiever, but she is also a haughty woman, aware of her fame and wealth. She is selfish, who is never willing to see the other person's perspective or understand her daughter's pleas for normalcy. It's so refreshing to see a character like Shakuntala Devi on screen, who may be a math wizard but is also a complicated personality just like any other successful individual.&nbsp; Who has had a troubled childhood, hates her family, and eventually becomes a complicated mother who feels she owns her daughter and has maximum right over because she gave birth to her. At one point an exasperated Anu asks her mother why she can't be normal like others and Shakuntala simply laughs and says "Why be normal when I can be amazing?"- a line that sums up Shakuntala and her vivacious, complicated personality.</p>

<p>The director adapts a comic bookish method to narrate the first half of the film, with lyrical dialogues(by Ishita Moitra) on several occasions thereby making the narrative fun and easy. While it talks of a complicated personality and her strained relationship with her daughter and husband, not one single moment does the screenplay lose its grip, making it a thoroughly enjoyable and engaging film.</p>

Fortunately, in 'Shakuntala Devi, Vidya has good writing to fall back on and she shines as the vivacious, energetic, super confident mathematician who states that 'age is just a number'.&nbsp; Particular scenes show how amazing an actor she is. A scene, in particular, cracked me up- where after arriving at the lodging house in London, her fellow lodgers (all men) ask her why she has come to London alone. She nonchalantly tells them that she had shot a man and blew off his ear. As alarmed lodgers look at her, her housekeeper (Sheeba Chaddha) comes to their rescue and announces she is joking. Realizing the damage she has caused, Shakuntala starts slowly laughing with her fellow boarders joing in relief. Its a small, almost insignificant scene, yet Vidya is so good as the unfiltered Shakuntala.</p>

<p>Vidya's performance is matched by actress Sanya Malhotra. Ever since her debut in 'Dangal' in 2016, Sanya has grown with each of her movies, proving that she is a talent to watch out for. As Anu, Shakuntala's daughter - she is the exact opposite of Vidya and the scenes where the two clash are so well directed and enacted. Its a delight to watch the two on-screen and they make for a formidable pair. Also a word of appreciation for Vidya, who at 41, has no qualms in playing Malhotra's mother. One has to be assured in one's craft to agree to play an aged character on screen.</p>

<p>The men- Jisshu Sengupta and Amit Sadh- take a step back and let the women shine. Yet, subtly they manage to create a lasting impression with their roles. Sengupta, a very popular name in Bengali films, plays the silent supportive husband who knows that his wife is not an average Indian woman and willingly lets her go and live her dream. In Bollywood, Sengupta has carved a niche for himself, playing the supportive man to a strong woman in films like 'Manikarnika', 'Piku' and 'Mardaani'. Here too, he plays the soothing factor to Shakuntala's exuberant personality. Sadh appears as a breath of fresh air and is charming as a man who is always calming his wife and her erratic behaviour. Not only was every Indian already aware of the surgical strike but had also seen a film on the same topic back in 2019. So what more does the show have to offer to&nbsp;its audiences in order to keep them hooked?</p>

But, the focus on the groundwork is where all the attention should go. Since the makers had the luxury of time, they were able to add much more matter to the plot than the movie could. For instance, tension&nbsp;between the two militant groups, Jaish-e-Mohammed and Hizbul Mujahideen, how the militant groups trained young boys in camps and the way India dealt with the news of a possible strike internationally.</p>

<p>The show's most known face is Amit Sadh, who plays the role of Videep Singh, the Para (special forces) commander of the Indian Army. Even though the trailer has a lot of his presence, the show sadly doesn't. We only get to see him make an entrance in the second half of the show. Sadh, who has time and again proven his brilliant acting skills, didn't get much screentime here to create an impression. Also, it really feels like he is every director's favorite choice for casting for a man in uniform. Even in 'Breathe' series, we got to see him in the role of a police officer.</p>

Even though it does pick up in the second half, the battleground scenes are not that impressive. The shots of the aerial view, landscape and the soldiers prepping for their mission which helps create an environment of intensity is not that effective. The adrenaline rush which one is supposed to get while watching a war drama is&nbsp;missing. The music too could have played a part in it. While the sounds of gunshots and bombs are necessary, there are times when the music behind some scenes becomes a source of irritation.</p>

<p>After making us wait for 2 years, Amazon Prime's 'Breathe' is back with its second season! 'Breathe: Into the Shadows' marks the digital debut of both its lead characters. Bollywood actor Abhishek Bachchan steps into the OTT space, following the footsteps of many in the film industry. It also marks the digital debut of Malayalam actress Nithya Menen who was last seen in 'Mission Mangal,' which was also her debut in Bollywood. Mayank Sharma once again returns as the director of the show and the episodes are approximately 40 minutes long.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The plot is summed up by the show's tagline- “a father’s love can save a life.. or take one." Someone has kidnapped Dr. Avinash (Abhishek Bachchan) and Abha's (Nitya Menon) 6-year-old daughter-Siya. Their daughter is also a juvenile diabetic patient and needs insulin injections four times a day. After establishing no contact for almost 9 months, the kidnapper starts sending puzzling messages, asking the couple to execute some killings to save their daughter. One thing which really stood out in the narrative was that unlike the cliche roles we are used to seeing, here both Avinash and Abha were truly equal partners in crime. From figuring out the cryptic messages to planning the killing and even executing them, 'Breathe S2' is never a one-man show.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p>On a parallel subplot, we get to see Kabir Sawant (Amit Sadh), who reprises his role from the previous season as a police officer. Unlike the last time, he is no longer seen with an alcohol bottle in every other frame and has taken a transfer from the Mumbai Crime Branch to Delhi. The first appearance of the character is in jail, leaving us all in shock.&nbsp;</p>

<p>For the creators, it is always more challenging to impress the audience with the second season. The task becomes even harder when the previous one was appreciated by the audience. Which explains why 'Breathe season 2'&nbsp;falls under the cracks. From the first few episodes, one would realise that the 'wow factor' was blisteringly lacking.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p>The show's biggest enemy was&nbsp;its expectation. In case you haven't seen the first season, you might just get more impressed.</p>

<p>For starters let's talk about the characters. I felt that the characters of Avinash and Abha could have been explored much more. Other than the average acting, the plot rushed into the narration of events rather than displaying their emotions when the scenes demanded. For instance, as a viewer when the couple found out that their child was missing, one would have liked to see more of what they were feeling at that moment. Even the aspect of inner consciousness after each of the killings was just not impactful-&nbsp; maybe even missing. Honestly, there was no dialogue or scene which actually stays with the viewer after the episodes are over.</p>

<p>It was not only the emotional aspect that's missing, but even the mystery and suspense created is not that great. What the audience expects from a thriller are nail-biting scenes and gripping plot points but we bearly get to see any of that. In fact, the subplot of Kabir Sawant was much more interesting than the main one. Sadh's acting, his character's on the spot thinking and witty retorts were a pleasure to watch on screen. This season completely belongs to Amit Sandh, who saves this ship from sinking. Whatever little mystery and drama we get from the show is courtesy Kabir Sawant.</p>

<p>The narrative of the plot is more or less flat, with not-so-complicated or surprising twists and turns. They fail to keep you hooked on to the show. Mayank Sharma once again returns as the director of the show and the episodes are approximately 40 minutes long. The plot is summed up by the show's tagline- “a father’s love can save a life.. or take one." Someone has kidnapped Dr. Avinash (Abhishek Bachchan) and Abha's (Nitya Menon) 6-year-old daughter-Siya. Their daughter is also a juvenile diabetic patient and needs insulin injections four times a day. After establishing no contact for almost 9 months, the kidnapper starts sending puzzling messages, asking the couple to execute some killings to save their daughter. One thing which really stood out in the narrative was that unlike the cliche roles we are used to seeing, here both Avinash and Abha were truly equal partners in crime. From figuring out the cryptic messages to planning the killing and even executing them, 'Breathe S2' is never a one-man show. On a parallel subplot, we get to see Kabir Sawant (Amit Sadh), who reprises his role from the previous season as a police officer. Unlike the last time, he is no longer seen with an alcohol bottle in every other frame and has taken a transfer from the Mumbai Crime Branch to Delhi. The first appearance of the character is in jail, leaving us all in shock. For the creators, it is always more challenging to impress the audience with the second season. The task becomes even harder when the previous one was appreciated by the audience. Which explains why 'Breathe season 2' falls under the cracks. From the first few episodes, one would realise that the 'wow factor' was blisteringly lacking. The show's biggest enemy was its expectation. In case you haven't seen the first season, you might just get more impressed. For starters let's talk about the characters. I felt that the characters of Avinash and Abha could have been explored much more. Other than the average acting, the plot rushed into the narration of events rather than displaying their emotions when the scenes demanded. For instance, as a viewer when the couple found out that their child was missing, one would have liked to see more of what they were feeling at that moment. Even the aspect of inner consciousness after each of the killings was just not impactful- maybe even missing. Honestly, there was no dialogue or scene which actually stays with the viewer after the episodes are over. It was not only the emotional aspect that's missing, but even the mystery and suspense created is not that great. What the audience expects from a thriller are nail-biting scenes and gripping plot points but we bearly get to see any of that. In fact, the subplot of Kabir Sawant was much more interesting than the main one. Sadh's acting, his character's on the spot thinking and witty retorts were a pleasure to watch on screen. This season completely belongs to Amit Sandh, who saves this ship from sinking. Whatever little mystery and drama we get from the show is courtesy Kabir Sawant. The narrative of the plot is more or less flat, with not-so-complicated or surprising twists and turns. They fail to keep you hooked on to the show. <p>Many top leaders of the party, including Union Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan, Dr Jitendra Singh and Vijay Goel, were seen sitting with a finger on their lips, holding placards that read - `Save Bengal Save Democracy`.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The leaders also wore black bands as a mark of protest.</p>

<p>On Tuesday, clashes had broken out between BJP supporters and Trinamool Chhatra Parishad (TMCP) activists after stones were allegedly pelted at Shah`s convoy as it passed through College Street.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The protest left several injured and the police later told Shah to immediately end the roadshow.</p>

<p>Bengali polymath Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar`s statue was also vandalised during the clashes.</p>

<p>After the silent protest, Goel told ANI that Mamata Banerjee knows that she is losing which is why she is instigating violence across the state.</p>

<p>"There is no place for violence in West Bengal. Mamata Banerjee is regularly fanning violence across the state. She knows that TMC is losing and BJP is moving ahead. This is absolutely not acceptable to anybody that the national president of the largest party which is at the Centre is not allowed to conduct a roadshow," he said.</p>

<p>Polling for nine seats in Bengal is scheduled to be held in the seventh phase of Lok Sabha election on May 19. The counting of votes will take place on May 23.&nbsp;</p>
