Al Nassr coach Luis Castro, however, showered praises on his best player despite the loss and said that club is lucky to have Ronaldo.

"Cristiano is an example for everyone, an example that Al Nassr are lucky to have," Castro said. "He is an example of rigor, ambition and discipline."

This was Al Nassr's third loss in 15 games and they have 34 points currently with 11 wins and one draw. Al Hilal, on the other hand, recorded their 13th win of the season and have 41 points in total including from two drawn games.

Talking about Ronaldo's performance in the season so far, the five-time Ballon d'Or winner has scored 15 goals in 15 games (including against Al Hilal) and has seven assists to his name. He has been the cornerstone of the club and the league since his debut in Saudi in 2022-23 season where he scored 14 goals in 16 games.

Retired football star Zlatan Ibrahimovic believes footballers who move to Saudi Arabia risk their legacies becoming about money rather than talent.

In an apparent dig at Cristiano Ronaldo and the legion of footballers that have moved to Saudi Arabia, Zlatan said players should be remembered for their talent, not "for what you earned".

"I think players that reach a certain level, they have to stop at a certain stage - the big stage," he said.

Speaking about himself, Zlatan said he had several offers from China as well as Saudi Arabia but he preferred to finish off at a big and historic club as AC Milan.

"I had an offer also from China, I had an offer also from Saudi. But the situation is, what do you want? What objectives do you have?" he said at the Piers Morgan Show.&nbsp;

"You have to be remembered for your talent, not for what you earned. What we are training every day for, what we are being recognised for is our talent, and that is what you want to be remembered for."

"You cannot [move to] a lower stage and finish your career in a different way. But some players needed the situations where you can earn a lot of money because they didn't earn enough."

Apart from Ronaldo, Sadio Mane also scored two goals as the Riyadh-based team won 5-0 against Al Fateh. Having joined the Saudi Pro League towards the end of last year, Ronaldo had put the relative unknown soccer league on the world map.

Al Nassr, after making Ronaldo the highest paid footballed in history, went on to finish second in last season behind the eventual winner Al-Ittihad. This season though, Al Nassr didn't get the start they were hoping for after losing first two games. During the third game, however, Ronaldo showed why he is known as one of the best football players of all time.

For Al Nassr, Mane - one of the many lucrative signings by the Saudi Pro League this season, opened the account with a goal in the 27th minute. Shortly before the first half ended, Ronaldo scored first of his three goals of the night with a header.

Come second half, there was no stopping Al Nassr as Mane and Ronaldo scored three more goals between them to take the score 5-0. Out of these goals, Ronaldo scored twice, securing his hat-trick and ending his two-game goalless run this season. This win would surely boost Al Nassr players' confidence as the opposition hadn't lost any of their two games prior to this.

With the win, Al Nassr are now at 10th place in the 18-team league but the season is still young and there's still a lot of games to go for them to catch up.&nbsp;

Cristiano Ronaldo's Al Nassr qualified for the Asian Champions League group stage after they secured an injury-time victory against Shabab Al Ahli in Riyadh on Tuesday.

The Saudi Pro League side came from behind to triumph 4-2 in the play-off at Mrsool Park, with Brazilian Anderson Talisca scoring twice and Croatia international Marcelo Brozovic rounding off the win. Nassr had been two minutes from exiting the tournament.

The result means Nassr, runners-up domestically last season, move into the group phase, which begins next month. Ronaldo, a five-time UEFA Champions League winner, was making his debut in Asian football's top club competition after signing for the Riyadh club last December.

Nassr opened the scoring on 11 minutes, when Taslica headed home a Brozovic corner. However, Yahya Al Ghassani levelled for UAE champions Shabab Al Ahli seven minutes later, the winger slotting the ball into the Nassr net after the Dubai side countered.

Ronaldo, 38, left the pitch at half-time clearly frustrated and could been seen arguing with the referee. The Portuguese star, the Nassr captain, believed he should have had two penalties in the first half.

Then, one minute after half-time, Al Ghassani raced clear of the Nassr defence to flick the ball over Nawaf Al Aqidi and put Shabab Al Ahli in front.

Nassr's comeback was complete five minutes into the allotted seven minutes of injury time, with Talisca nodding home from close range. Moments later,&nbsp;as Shabab Al Ahli chased the equaliser, Ronaldo teed up Brozovic to drill his shot into the net and make safe the game.

Elsewhere in the west zone, UAE side Sharjah qualified for the tournament proper with a 3-1 victory away to Iran's Tractor FC, while Uzbekistan's&nbsp;Navbahor Namangan defeated Al Wakrah of Qatar 1-0 after extra time.&nbsp;

In Tuesday's other play-off, Uzbek side AGMK Olmaliq defeated Qatar's Al Arabi 1-0.

Al Nassr leave it late to snatch Asian Champions League spot

Saudi side Al Nassr confirmed the signing of Bayern Munich striker Sadio Mane on Tuesday as the Senegal star prepares to team up with five-time&nbsp;Ballon d'Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo.

The twice African footballer of the year is the latest high profile player to join the cash-rich Saudi league.

"I'm really happy to be part of you guys, I can't wait to see you," Mane said in a video addressed to Al Nassr supporters on the club's social media accounts.

Both clubs announced the transfer involving the former Liverpool star which German media estimated at around 30 million euros on a three-year deal with an annual salary for Mane of 40 million plus 10 million in results-based bonuses.

Earlier Tuesday Mane, 31, rued his departure with two years of his contract at Bayern remaining.

"Leaving Bayern hurts me. I would have wished for a different ending," he told Sky Germany.

Those sentiments were echoed by Bayern boss Thomas Tuchel when he spoke in Singapore on the eve of his side's friendly against Liverpool.

"We had a long, big hug and we both agreed that we don't like what's happening now, but we think it's for the best in this situation," said the Bayern coach.

"Sometimes things don't work out as everybody wants it to work out. In person I have always had a very good relationship with him and this will stay.

"I can totally understand that he feels hurt and I also wouldn't feel happy if things like this happened.

"Obviously it's something that we didn't bring into the full potential, which is my job and my responsibility, but in this particular situation, it was the best solution to untie the knot."

Mane moves to the club that instigated the first coup of a raft of signings by Saudi clubs with the capture of Ronaldo on a four-year contract.

Mane won the Champions League and Premier League in six seasons with Liverpool and was a key part of Jurgen Klopp's devastating front three with Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino.

When Liverpool won their first English league title for 30 years in the pandemic-disrupted 2019-2020 season, Mane scored 18 goals.

But in the summer of 2022, Mane decided he wanted a new challenge -- unconfirmed rumours said he had tired of sharing the limelight with Egypt's Salah at Anfield.

Bayern made a big play for Mane, promising to make him the focal point of an attack which had just lost the services of Robert Lewandowski to Barcelona.

After a strong start to the season at Bayern, it soon become clear that Mane was not clicking in Bavaria.

In a Bundesliga game against Werder Bremen in November, Mane suffered an injury to his fibula and his season was put on hold.

The injury forced him to miss the World Cup in Qatar at the end of last year in a crushing blow to Senegal's chances.

Bayern CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen reflected on Mane's difficult spell in Germany.

"It certainly wasn't an easy year for him, getting injured just before the World Cup and being unable to take part in it with Senegal," he told Bayern's website.

Dreesen added: "Because of his long lay-off he also couldn't have the impact at FC Bayern that we all and he himself had hoped for.

"That's why we came to the joint decision that he'll begin a new chapter in his career and make a new start at a different club."

While Mane returned to the Bayern team in 2023, his problems were underlined when he became involved in a physical altercation with teammate Leroy Sane following a Champions League defeat to Manchester City.

Bayern reportedly fined Mane around 350,000 euros ($385,000) and gave him a one-match suspension for his part in the incident.

He ended the&nbsp;season with an underwhelming 12 goals in 38 games across all competitions.

Aside from Ronaldo, Al Nassr have also signed this summer Croatia midfielder&nbsp;Marcelo Brozovic,&nbsp;Brazil full-back Alex Telles&nbsp;and Ivory Coast midfielder Seko Fofana.

Karim Benzema, the reigning Ballon d'Or, and French 2018 World Cup winner N'Golo Kante joined Al-Ittihad in June, while Riyad Mahrez left Manchester City for Al-Ahli last week.

England international Jordan Henderson also recently moved from Liverpool to Al-Ettifaq, where he will be coached by Reds legend and former teammate Steven Gerrard.&nbsp;

Portugal skipper and Al Nassr star Cristiano Ronaldo has said that Saudi league is better than USA's Major League Soccer (MLS). Ronaldo made the statement while talking to reporters after playing in the first half of Saudi club's 5-0 loss in a pre-season game against Celta Vigo.

The match between Al Nassr and La Liga club was played in Ronaldo's home country of Portugal. The football star also said that he has no plans to return to a European club or play in MLS. Ronaldo's contemporary Lionel Messi, notably, has recently joined MLS club Inter Miami in a two-year deal.&nbsp;

"I opened the way to the Saudi league, and now all the players are coming here," said Ronaldo.

After Ronaldo, a number of marquee players have joined Saudi clubs this summer. Notable among them are Karim Benzama, Marcelo Brozovic and N'Golo Kante.

Roberto Firmino. Brozovic, who used to play for Messi-starred Inter Miami, will now play alongside Ronaldo at Al Nassr.

"In one year, more and more top players will come to Saudi. In a year, the Saudi league will overtake the Turkish league and Dutch league," Ronaldo added.

The Portugal star had joined the Saudi-based club in January following his sour departure from English Premier League (EPL) club Manchester United. It was Ronaldo's second stint with the United.

Ronaldo also said that European clubs have lost a lot of quality and only decent league is the Premier League.

"I'm 100 per cent sure I won't return to any European club," Ronaldo said. "I'm 38 years old. And European football has lost a lot of quality. The only valid one and still doing good is the Premier League. They're way ahead of all the other leagues."

Ronaldo, who was substituted at end of first half during the game against Celta Vigo, plans to play for 60-70 minutes in Al Nassar's next friendly against Benfica. The match will also be played in Portugal.

"The plan was for me to play 45 minutes today," Ronaldo said. "Against Benfica, I might play 60 or 70 minutes. It is better to fine-tune the machine little by little to reach the best form."

Kingdom develops interests abroad While the kingdom grows its football league, it has developed major interests outside as well. In 2021, a consortium led by PIF bought off Premier League club Newcastle United. Within a year of PIF making the purchase, Newcastle found themselves back in the Champions League after an absence of 20 years. The scary part? PIF is yet to spend a fraction of its $600 billion wealth on the club. If the success of Manchester City over the last decade serves any template of oil money catapulting a club to glory, Newcastle United surely has a beaming future ahead. Apart from football, Saudi Arabia has managed to attract Formula 1 and its growing legion of fans. The street circuit in Saudi Arabia has become a staple on the F1 calendar and it doesn't appear to be going away anytime soon.
