While the ED sought a ten-day remand for the accused, the court has decided to keep them in custody until October 13. &nbsp;

Vivo has&nbsp;denied the allegations,&nbsp;expressing "deep concerns" about the situation and its intent to explore all available legal avenues.

The second-largest smartphone brand in India, commanding a 17 per cent market share, has been embroiled in a series of troubles within the country, casting a shadow on its operations.&nbsp;

Earlier this month, Indian police formally accused Vivo Mobile of assisting in the illegal transfer of funds to NewsClick, a news portal under investigation for spreading Chinese propaganda.&nbsp;

In August 2022, India's Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) issued a show-cause notice to Vivo, alleging that the company had evaded taxes amounting to 22.1 billion Indian rupees ($280 million).&nbsp;

A recent analysis published by Barclays Plc has revealed that India needs to achieve an annual economic growth rate of 8 per cent to outpace China and become the leading contributor to the global economy,

The study emphasises the necessity for substantial investment, particularly in traditional sectors such as mining, utilities, transportation, and storage, which are believed to have significant ripple effects on the broader economy. &nbsp;

According to The Economic Times, Barclays' senior economist in Mumbai, Rahul Bajoria, notes that these sectors have been overlooked in favour of newer industries like telecommunications and digital technology in recent years. Consequently, there is a pressing need for increased investments in these traditional areas, particularly from the government, to address capacity constraints.&nbsp;

"Higher investment, especially in traditional sectors, should also have a positive impact on employment and household income, which is likely to be a key deliverable of the economic growth story pursued by policymakers," The Economic Times quotes Bajoria as saying while emphasising on the broader benefits of higher investment.&nbsp;

This suggests that not only would such investment stimulate economic growth, but it would also have a direct impact on improving the livelihoods of the Indian population.&nbsp;

Furthermore, the analysis from Barclays underscores that India had experienced an average economic growth rate of around 8 per cent from 2005 to 2010, a pace that could potentially be regained after the upcoming general elections, provided the new government aims for such a growth rate while maintaining macroeconomic stability. &nbsp;

With an ambitious goal of 8 per cent growth, India could be in a position to become a prominent contributor to global economic growth and reduce the gap with China.&nbsp;

According to Barclays, China's contribution to the global gross domestic product is estimated at approximately 26 per cent in&nbsp;the five-year period leading up to 2028, while India's contribution stands at an estimated 16 per cent , assuming a GDP growth rate of 6.1 per cent over&nbsp;the same period. Achieving 8 per cent growth could bring India's contribution much closer to China's.&nbsp;

In alignment with the analysis from Barclays, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) recently released a report on India's economic outlook, raising its growth forecast for the fiscal year 2024 from 6.1 per cent to 6.3 per cent. Reports suggest this upward revision reflects a "stronger-than-expected consumption during April-June," indicating positive signs for India's economic performance.&nbsp;

However, while the Indian government has been increasing infrastructure spending in recent years, reports indicate that allocating a record 10 trillion rupees in the current fiscal year through March 2024, it is unlikely to maintain such a robust pace of investment in capital projects.

This shift towards private sector involvement in investment has been echoed by Goldman Sachs Group Inc. This implies that India's journey to 8 per cent annual growth will require both public and private sector collaboration and strategic investments in crucial sectors. &nbsp;

According to The Economic Times, Barclays' senior economist in Mumbai, Rahul Bajoria, notes that these sectors have been overlooked in favour of newer industries like telecommunications and digital technology in recent years. Consequently, there is a pressing need for increased investments in these traditional areas, particularly from the government, to address capacity constraints. "Higher investment, especially in traditional sectors, should also have a positive impact on employment and household income, which is likely to be a key deliverable of the economic growth story pursued by policymakers," The Economic Times quotes Bajoria as saying while emphasising on the broader benefits of higher investment. This suggests that not only would such investment stimulate economic growth, but it would also have a direct impact on improving the livelihoods of the Indian population. Furthermore, the analysis from Barclays underscores that India had experienced an average economic growth rate of around 8 per cent from 2005 to 2010, a pace that could potentially be regained after the upcoming general elections, provided the new government aims for such a growth rate while maintaining macroeconomic stability. With an ambitious goal of 8 per cent growth, India could be in a position to become a prominent contributor to global economic growth and reduce the gap with China. According to Barclays, China's contribution to the global gross domestic product is estimated at approximately 26 per cent in the five-year period leading up to 2028, while India's contribution stands at an estimated 16 per cent , assuming a GDP growth rate of 6.1 per cent over the same period. Achieving 8 per cent growth could bring India's contribution much closer to China's. In alignment with the analysis from Barclays, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) recently released a report on India's economic outlook, raising its growth forecast for the fiscal year 2024 from 6.1 per cent to 6.3 per cent. Reports suggest this upward revision reflects a "stronger-than-expected consumption during April-June," indicating positive signs for India's economic performance. However, while the Indian government has been increasing infrastructure spending in recent years, reports indicate that allocating a record 10 trillion rupees in the current fiscal year through March 2024, it is unlikely to maintain such a robust pace of investment in capital projects. This shift towards private sector involvement in investment has been echoed by Goldman Sachs Group Inc. The latest rich list, a collaboration between 360 ONE Wealth and Hurun India, notes that India’s rich are cumulatively worth Rs 108 lakh crore (approximately $1.3 trillion) — an increase of 8.5 per cent compared to last year.

"The list is a testament to the remarkable growth and dynamism of India’s economy. The cumulative wealth of our listers has surged past the combined GDP of Singapore, UAE, and Saudi Arabia," says Yatin Shah, Joint CEO, 360 ONE Wealth.

With a total net worth of over Rs 8.08 lakh crore, Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani has overtaken Adani Group founder Gautam Adani to secure the richest Indian title, says the report. Notably, Adani's fortune, which now stands at 4.74 lakh crore, has fallen 57 percent in a year, following the Hindenburg report.

Cyrus Poonawala, who owns the vaccine-maker Serum Institute of India, is third on the list, while HCL's Shiv Nadar and UK-based Indian billionaire Gopichand Hinduja are fourth and fifth in the rich list, respectively.

The report finds that 1,319 individuals have a net worth of over 1,000 crore ($120 million), which is an increase of 76 per cent over the last five years. Moreover, the rich list has 278 new faces, who cumulatively won wealth worth Rs 7,28,200 crore ($88 billion).

Calling India a “shining moon” in an uncertain global economy, Anas Rahman Junaid, MD and Chief Researcher, Hurun India, adds, "India has welcomed so many fresh faces even in what's termed a 'challenging year'. This surge in billionaires&nbsp;is the second most prolific since the list's inception in 2012."

Radha Vembu of Zoho has overtaken Nykaa's Falguni Nayar to become the richest self-made woman in the latest list. It is worth noting that Nykaa's shares have been underperforming, compared to its peers in the consumer tech sector.

Bengaluru-based Kaivalya Vohra, 20, who founded the grocery delivery start-up Zepto, is the youngest self-made rich individual. Thirty-eight-year-old Neha Narkhede,&nbsp;founder of Confluent, a streaming data technology company, is the youngest self-made woman entrepreneur.

But at 94, Mahendra Ratilal Mehta, founder of Precision Wires India, has proven that age is just a number, debuting in the 2023 rich list.

A record 871 entrepreneurs or 66 per cent of them are self-made or, in other words, first-generation wealth creators. This figure stood at just 367 five years ago. In addition, 186 of the 278 new faces this year are self-made.

India 's Tier-X cities — popularly called as 'metros' — continue to be a hub for the wealthy. With 328 individuals, Mumbai tops the rich list followed by New Delhi (199) and Bengaluru (100).

Decoding the 360 ONE Wealth Hurun India Rich List 2023 

Many mobile users in India received an emergency alert from the government on Tuesday (Oct 10) morning around 11:35 am.&nbsp;

The message stated, "This is a SAMPLE TESTING MESSAGE sent through Cell Broadcasting System by the Department of Telecommunication, Government of India. Please ignore this message as no action is required from your end."

The emergency alert message popped with a loud buzzer-like sound. However, there is no need to panic, since this was part of a test of the country's new emergency alert system, which is being deployed by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).&nbsp;

<h2>Why&nbsp;was the alert sent?</h2>

"In our continuous commitment to the safety of citizens of India and the communities, tests of Cell Broadcast Alert System are being conducted on each Telecom Service Provider. These tests will be performed from time to time in various regions across the country to gauge the efficiency and effectiveness of emergency alert broadcasting capabilities of the systems in place, of various Mobile Operators and Cell Broadcast Systems," the Ministry of Communications had said in a release.

This is not the first time such a&nbsp;message&nbsp;was&nbsp;sent.&nbsp;A&nbsp;similar flash alert was sent to many users a few weeks ago. The Department of Telecommunications Cell Broadcasting System (DoT CBS) has announced that it plans to conduct similar tests periodically in various regions.

The government is closely working with the NDMA project, which will be used in times of disasters such as tsunamis, flash floods, and earthquakes, among other scenarios.

C-DOT's CEO, Rajkumar Upadhyay, earlier informed that the technology for cell broadcast is currently only available from foreign vendors, so C-DOT is developing its own.&nbsp;

"Cell broadcast is still under development, but NDMA will use it to send alerts directly to mobile phone screens during disasters. It is currently being tested on the Jio and BSNL networks", he added.

The message stated, "This is a SAMPLE TESTING MESSAGE sent through Cell Broadcasting System by the Department of Telecommunication, Government of India. Please ignore this message as no action is required from your end." The emergency alert message popped with a loud buzzer-like sound. However, there is no need to panic, since this was part of a test of the country's new emergency alert system, which is being deployed by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA). Why was the alert sent? "In our continuous commitment to the safety of citizens of India and the communities, tests of Cell Broadcast Alert System are being conducted on each Telecom Service Provider. These tests will be performed from time to time in various regions across the country to gauge the efficiency and effectiveness of emergency alert broadcasting capabilities of the systems in place, of various Mobile Operators and Cell Broadcast Systems," the Ministry of Communications had said in a release. This is not the first time such a message was sent. A similar flash alert was sent to many users a few weeks ago. The Department of Telecommunications Cell Broadcasting System (DoT CBS) has announced that it plans to conduct similar tests periodically in various regions. C-DOT's CEO, Rajkumar Upadhyay, earlier informed that the technology for cell broadcast is currently only available from foreign vendors, so C-DOT is developing its own. It is currently being tested on the Jio and BSNL networks", he added. According to reports, the agreement aims to establish a comprehensive framework for cooperation encompassing various aspects of the energy sector. The focus areas include electrical interconnection, exchange of electricity during peak demand and emergencies, co-development of projects, co-production of green and clean hydrogen, and the creation of secure, reliable, and resilient supply chains for materials used in green and clean hydrogen production and renewable energy.

With a larger objective of integrating national power networks with other nations, lessening the need for costly&nbsp;renewable energy storage technologies, and improving grid dependability, India is interested in developing electrical connections with Saudi Arabia. This action is crucial as India moves on with the OSOWOG plan, which aims to link nations through a global power grid.

Mint reported that R. K. Singh, India's Union Minister for Power and New &amp; Renewable Energy, emphasised India's dedication to the energy transition during the MENA Climate Week 2023. He mentioned that India, with almost 17 percent of the world's population and as the world's fifth-largest economy, was actively taking substantial measures to decrease the emission intensity of its GDP by 45 percent by 2030 and to attain the Net Zero goal by 2070.

Singh also extended an invitation to MENA countries to join the recently launched Global Biofuels Alliance, fostering international cooperation in sustainable bio fuels. This alliance, launched during the G20 Summit in New Delhi, includes 19 countries and 12 international organisations, with India, Brazil, and the U.S. as founding members.

The MENA Climate Week serves as a platform for discussing climate solutions and energy sustainability ahead of COP28 and is hosted by the government of Saudi Arabia. Singh emphasised the significance of global collaboration in shaping the energy transition narrative and encouraged sustainable behaviours and choices to achieve this transition.

The high-level GST (Global Stocktake of the Paris Agreement) regional dialogue at the MENA Climate Week further provides an opportunity to discuss challenges, solutions, and opportunities for enhancing climate action and support within the MENA context and globally. The GST is essential for periodically assessing the progress toward the Paris Agreement's goals and long-term objectives, with its first session held in Glasgow in 2021 and concluding at the climate change conference in Dubai, UAE.
