Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 set to be cancelled with French government ready to announce no football until August

The 2019-20 season of France’s top-flight football Ligue 1 and second-division Ligue 2 are set to be cancelled on Tuesday with Prime Minister Edouard Philippe ready to announce that football matches, even behind closed doors, will not be allowed before August.
Earlier, UEFA had set a deadline of August 2 for domestic leagues to be completed and French Professional Football League (LFP had announced plans for Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 to resume on June 17.
However, with French prime minister set to announce that football matches will not be authorized to resume before August as part of their next stage of lockdown beyond May 11.
While the league and some clubs may want to resume training after May 11, the French government doesn’t see at as an absolute priority.
Furthermore, the LFP are planning to meet in May in a bid to finalise the standings for the season and which teams should be promoted and relegated.

Before the season was halted due to the outbreak of COVID-19, PSG, Marseille and Rennes occupied the UEFA Champions League whereas Lille are taking the Europa League spot. Nimes, Amiens and Toulouse are in the relegation zone. Whereas in Ligue 2, Lorient and Lens are in promotion spots.
