As the country prepared for Ramazan, the number of coronavirus cases surged to over 11,500 in Pakistan with the death toll climbing to 242 on Friday.

Sindh and Punjab provinces reported more the 8,000 coroanvirus cases combined as the country struggled to keep the infections under control.

The government put strict norms on Ramazan with the Sindh government releasing the timings for offices as the province reported two more deaths today with 274 new cases. Sindh has recorded 3,945 cases of COVID-19 so far. The Sindh government has put stringent regulation in place for Ramzan with lockdown to be imposed after 7pm.

At least49 patients are in critical condition, authorities said.

The Imran Khan government still hasn't ordered a complete lockdown of the country citing problems for the poor with authorities saying low-income families will suffer.

In Punjab which has registered 4,851 cases so far which is the highest in the country, on Friday it reported 84 new COVID-19 cases. The province also recorded three deaths due to the virus.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan army declared today that all its resources are being used to fight coronavirus. The Pakistan government has told citizens to stay at home in order to keep the situation under control as the number of COVID-19 cases continues to surge.
