The sixth edition of its Switch Off research study, titled ‘Impact of Smartphones on Parent-Child Relationships’, has revealed how unregulated smartphone usage can damage family bonds between children and their parents.

The study revealed that 76 per cent of children with their parents switched off their smartphones to have a deeper connection and spend meaningful time together.

As per the survey, which was conducted in eight Indian cities, 73 per cent of parents and 69 per cent of children believe smartphone usage is a source of dispute between them.

When asked to design a phone for their parents, nearly 94 per cent of the children said it should include features like calling, camera, and messaging, leaving out games, social media, and entertainment apps, which their parents spend most of their time on.

While both groups recognise the negative impact of excessive usage of smartphones, children seem aware of the harmful effects. The survey suggests that 75 per cent of parents are worried about forming a meaningful relationship with their children but fail to notice how their own smartphone usage is also affecting their bond with kids.

“There was chaos as people did not understand what was happening. It was like a terror attack. A mob chased the bus and caught hold of the driver and manhandled him until the police arrived,” the eyewitness said.

The BEST officials have now opened a probe into the accident, and they are ascertaining whether the accident was caused due to carelessness. It’s also being examined whether the brakes of the vehicle had malfunctioned.

The court was hearing a case related to food security of the migrant workers. Making a statement in the Assembly on the installation of the 'Telangana Thalli' statue in Secretariat premises on Monday evening, he said the government consulted Telangana agitation protagonists, poets, and artists on finalising the image and portrait.

According to the CM, intellectuals and Telangana protagonists favoured the image of a mother. The image finalised by the government represents the state's culture and traditions.

The design finalised by the government depicts Mother Telangana in traditional attire, exuding a dignified appearance. The right hand symbolises reassurance, while the left-hand holds traditional Telangana crops—paddy, jowar, and maize, he said.

The colours blue, green, red, and gold in the image represent Telangana's rivers, agricultural heritage, progress, and prosperity, respectively, he added. The closed fists at the base of the statue reflect the state's history of struggles and agitations.

'Telangana Thalli' statue design represents state's cultural ethos: CM Revanth Reddy

The&nbsp;Sri Lankan Navy&nbsp;apprehended eight Indian fishermen and captured two boats off the coast of Ramanathapuram on Sunday morning.

The apprehended fishermen who belong to Ramanathapuram have been identified as Mangadu Bhatrappan (55), Reddayurani, Kannan (52), Chinna ReddayurMuthuraj (55), Agasthiyar Kutam Kali (50) and Thangachimad Yasin (46), Jesus, Uchipulli Ramakrishnan and Velu including 8 fishermen was arrested and taken to the Kangesanturai Naval Camp.

According to the Mandapam Fishermen Association, the apprehended fishermen had gone to the sea from Mandapam. They were fishing in the Palk Bay Sea area when the Sri Lankan Navy came to the area early this morning claiming that the fishermen had crossed the border.

The fishermen who went to sea in 324 boats from Mandapam north coast of Ramanathapuram district on December 7 were fishing near Delft Island in the Palk Bay Sea area when Sri Lanka Navy arrived in the area early this morning and captured two boats, IND TN 11 MM 81, barge owned by Mandapam Karthikaraja and IND TN 11 MM 231, boat owned by Thangachimadam Yasin. 2 mechanised boats.

According to the Mandapam Fishermen Association, the Sri Lankan Navy captured two boats belonging to Mandapam and apprehended 8 fishermen from the boat and took them to Kangesanthurai Naval Camp for investigation.

After investigation, the fishermen and the boat will be handed over to the&nbsp;Jaffna Fisheries Department&nbsp;officials.

This has created confusion among the fishermen.

The government is keen on holding wider consultations on bills it proposes to bring for implementing its 'One Nation, One Election' plan, sources said on Monday.

Though the proposed legislation or set of legislations has not yet been approved by the Union Cabinet, the government may bring it as early as the ongoing winter session of Parliament, they noted.

The sources said once the bill or bills are introduced in Parliament, the government would like to refer the measures to a joint committee of the two Houses for wider consultations.

The government is also keen to consult all the Speakers of various state legislative assemblies through committees.

In September, sources had said that the government is likely to bring three bills, including two to amend the Constitution, to put in place its plan to hold simultaneous elections.

Moving ahead with its 'One Nation, One Election' plan, the government in September accepted the recommendations of the high-level committee for holding simultaneous polls for the Lok Sabha, state assemblies, and local bodies in a phased manner.

Citing recommendations of the high-level committee, sources had said one of the proposed bills would seek to amend Article 82A by adding sub-clause (1) relating to the appointed date'. It will also seek to insert sub-clause (2) to Article 82A relating to the end of terms of the Lok Sabha and state legislative assemblies together.

It also proposes to amend Article 83(2) and insert new sub-clauses (3) and (4) relating to the duration and dissolution of the Lok Sabha. It also has provisions related to the dissolution of the legislative assemblies and amending Article 327 to insert the term simultaneous elections.

This bill will not require ratification by at least 50 per cent of the states, the recommendation said.

The proposed second Constitutional amendment bill will require ratification by at least 50 per cent of the state assemblies as it will deal with matters relating to state affairs.

It will seek to amend constitutional provisions relating to the preparation of electoral rolls by the Election Commission (EC) in consultation with State Election Commissions (SECs) for elections to local bodies.

Constitutionally, the EC and SECs are separate bodies. The EC holds elections to the post of the President, the Vice President, Lok Sabha, Rajya Sabha, state assemblies, and state legislative councils, while the SECs are mandated to conduct polls of local bodies such as municipalities and panchayats.

The proposed second Constitution amendment bill will also create provisions to hold simultaneous elections to municipalities and panchayats, along with elections to Lok Sabha and state legislative assemblies by inserting a new Article 324A.

The third bill will be an ordinary one to amend provisions in three laws dealing with Union territories having legislative assemblies in Puducherry, Delhi, and Jammu and Kashmir to align the terms of these Houses with other legislative assemblies and the Lok Sabha as proposed in the first constitutional amendment bill.

The statutes it proposes to amend are the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi Act-1991, the Government of Union Territories Act-1963 and the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act-2019.

The proposed bill will be an ordinary legislation not requiring a change in the Constitution and will also not need ratification by the states.

The high-level committee had proposed amendments to three Articles, insertion of 12 new sub-clauses in the existing articles, and tweaking three laws related to Union Territories having legislative assemblies. The total number of amendments and new insertions stands at 18.

In its report submitted to the government in March, just before the general election was announced, the panel recommended implementing 'One Nation, One Election' in two phases.

Winter Session of Indian Parliament: Centre may bring 'One Nation, One Election' bill

Meanwhile, the homeless and those facing financial hardships took refuge in night shelter homes set up by the Delhi government amid the inclement weather conditions.

Night shelters have been set up in several areas of the national capital including AIIMS, Lodhi Road and Nizamuddin flyover.

Visuals from a shelter home in Lodhi Road showed people residing inside the structures.

Arpita, a guard at the shelter home spoke to ANI and said, "I am a guard here. This place can provide shelter to 16-17 people. Right now, there are 14-15 people. There are beds here. This shelter is only for the women. We provide food two times a day. We have hot water, blankets and other amenities."

"A doctor comes to visit the shelter home twice a week. If anyone is suffering with any kind of an issue, they prescribe medicines. For the safety, there are guards and caretakers," she said.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert, warning of moderate to dense fog in the morning and shallow fog or smog during the evening and night hours.

Parts of Delhi, including Kota House, Akbar Road, and Pandara Park, recorded light rains on Sunday evening.

The IMD has predicted a cold wave in West Rajasthan from December 9 to December 14, while Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh, and West Uttar Pradesh will start experiencing similar conditions from December 11.

More than 40&nbsp;schools in India's national capital Delhi received bomb threats through e-mails on Monday morning (Dec 9). The&nbsp;schools which received the bomb threat included Delhi Public School located in RK Puram and GD Goenka School&nbsp;in Paschim Vihar in the early morning hours, as per news agency ANI.&nbsp;

According to Delhi Police, the email read,&nbsp;"I planted multiple bombs inside (school) buildings. The bombs are small and hidden very well. It will not cause much damage to the building, but many people will be injured when the bombs detonate. If I do not receive $30,000 I will detonate the bombs."

The email was sent to school authorities on Sunday night (Dec 8) at 11:38 pm local time.

The IP address of the sender is being investigated by the police.

The threats were revealed at peak hour in schools when buses were arriving, children were being dropped off by their parents and staff busy preparing for the morning assembly.

The schools informed the Delhi&nbsp;Fire Department of the threats at around 7 am local time.

Bomb threats have been taking place in education institutions and airlines through much of this year in India, most of which turned out to be hoaxes.

In October, an explosion took place outside the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) school in the Prashant Vihar area of Rohini in Delhi. The wall of the school, vehicles and nearby shops were damaged.

On October 21, a bomb blast threat was sent to all CRPF schools through an email.

On November 19, the Delhi High Court asked the state government and Delhi police to create a comprehensive action plan which included an extensive Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for dealing with bomb threats as well as other such emergencies.

An eight-week deadline was set by the court for the completion of the plan. In the SOP, the officials were instructed to define the roles and responsibilities of the stakeholders which included police, municipal authorities, school administration and other law enforcement agencies.&nbsp;

India's Union Minister Kiren Rijiju on Monday (Dec 9) called the alleged links between Congress leader Sonia Gandhi and Hungarian-American businessman George Soros a "serious" concern and appealed that it should not be seen through a "political lens", while appealing for a united front against "anti-India forces."

"It is an important issue that I want to raise without doing politics over it. The links between Sonia Gandhi and George Sores are serious. We do not want to see it by giving a political spin," said Rijiju.

"We want to run parliament. I want to clarify that some issues are politically driven but if powers outside India are trying to defy India and fight against India then there are serious concerns," said the minister.&nbsp;

“The issue of George Soros was raised in the Parliament. The report is in the public domain and there are serious allegations&nbsp;in&nbsp;it. Whoever the leader is from whichever party. I don’t want to name them. This Soros works against India," said Rijiju, while speaking to reporters.

“I only appeal to remain united against anti-India&nbsp;elements. The government is always ready for a discussion," he added.

<h2>What are the allegations of the BJP?</h2>

The Bharatiya Janata Party on Sunday (Dec 8) alleged that Congress leader Sonia Gandhi has ties with the organisation which is financed by the George Soros Foundation. The foundation supports the idea of Kashmir as an independent nation.

As per BJP, Gandhi has played the role of the co-president of the Forum of Democratic Leaders in Asia Pacific (FDL-AP) Foundation earlier, which is concerning.

“Notably, the FDL-AP Foundation has expressed their views that treat Kashmir as a separate entity. This association between Sonia Gandhi and an organisation that has backed the idea of Kashmir as an independent nation expresses the influence of foreign entities on India’s internal affairs and the political impact of such connections," said the party.

The ruling party also pointed towards partnerships between Soros-linked organisations and the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation, calling it evidence which proves foreign influence in the country's domestic affairs.&nbsp;

The accusations of the BJP were dismissed by the US government as the embassy called them "disappointing".

However, BJP MP Nishikant Dubey said that 10 questions will be posed by him to Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi in the Lok Sabha on this issue.

Speaking to NDTV, Congress MP Karti Chidambaram dismissed the allegations of the BJP and called them "dark fantasies" which should only remain in the "dark web".

"These deep state theories should be confined to the dark web and not serious political discourse. People have dark, morbid fantasies and they can continue to have them, and there will be no credence given to all these conspiracy theories. We are always for the sovereignty and unity of India. We are patriots, we are nationalists and we are doing nothing that is against the integrity of India," he said.&nbsp;

The shocking incident took place on Friday where the 17-year-old allegedly shot the principal of Dhamora Government High School in Chhatarpur.&nbsp;

The police officer investigating the case, on Saturday, revealed the chilling aspect of the case which was the teenager's lack of remorse. Investigators are deeply worried about the teenager’s mental state, with one source reportedly describing him as a "psychopath."

Superintendent of Police Agam Jain reported that the sequence of events unfolded rapidly. The 17-year-old student, who had skipped school on the day of the incident, was spotted near the school gate by principal S.K. Saxena. After being reprimanded, the student allegedly shot his principal on the spot. The class 12 student then fled the scene on Saxena's scooter, accompanied by a classmate.

The police acted swiftly, apprehending the suspect at the district's border with Uttar Pradesh. The firearm used was recovered from the suspect, who is currently undergoing medical tests.

According to reports, the teenager had already planned the attack near the school's toilet after being reprimanded for skipping classes.&nbsp;

"The accused is saying Principal Saxena used to scold him, so he shot him dead," an anonymous investigator told news agency PTI. "He claimed the principal often chided him and told him not to indulge in 'goondaism' in school."

The investigator pointed out that the teenager showed no regret for what he had done. "The accused, a student of the Arts stream, is not at all regretful of his deed," the source added.
