<p>The message was later traced to Ajmer, Rajasthan, following which, the police sent a team to further trace the accused.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“The cold wave will first hit Rajasthan, followed by Punjab and Haryana,” Naresh Kumar told ANI.</p>

<p>A dense fog warning has also been issued across northern India on December 9 and 10, which may cause reduced visibility and disrupt transportation.</p>

<p>Police on Sunday (Dec. 8) used tear gas to disperse the protesting farmers at the Punjab-Haryana Shambhu border as they again took to the streets and made attempts to move towards Delhi.</p>

<p>However, the app, instead of taking them to their destination, guided them towards a thick forest zone in Khanapur taluk, Belagavi district.</p>

<p>The situation turned scarier for the family as they had to spend a harrowing night inside their car until the local police rescued them with the help of the villagers, said the police.</p>

<p>Khanapur police inspector Manjunath Nayak said that a family, comprising six to seven members, including children, remained stranded nearly eight kilometres inside the forest.</p>

After passing through Khanapur town, the map directed them to a path between Shirodaga and Hemmadaga villages, leading them 7 kilometres into the Bhimghad wildlife zone on Thursday. With no mobile network in the area, the family spent the night in the car, isolated and unable to contact anyone for help," said Nayak.</p>

<p>“The family, unaware of how to get out of the forest, spent the entire night in their locked car, surrounded by wildlife. The next morning, the family retraced their route for about 3 kilometres, where they regained mobile network coverage. They immediately called the police helpline to report their situation,” he added.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Explaining how the family was rescued, Nayak said, “The Belagavi police control room passed the information to the Khanapur police, who used GPS coordinates to locate the family and reach them with the help of villagers."</p>

<p>According to the police official, the family was fortunate to get stranded in a location where they had access to a mobile signal.</p>

<p>Speaking to reporters, Shiv Sena UBT leader Aaditya Thackeray said, "We boycotted the oath-taking ceremony today as democracy is being murdered by the use of EVMs (Electronic Voting Machines).</p>

<p>At least five people were killed and one person was injured after a car plunged into a lake in the Indian state of Telangana on Saturday (Dec 7). They were travelling near Jalalpur village of Yadadri Bhongir district when the car went out of control and landed in the lake.</p>

<p>The victims were residents of the LC Nagar area in Hyderabad and were intoxicated during the accident. They reportedly left their homes at night and reached the village early morning to consume fresh toddy.</p>

<p>The victims have been identified as Vamsi (23), Dignesh (21), Harsha, Vinay, Manikanth, and Balu (19). All of them were residents of Hyderabad, police told India Today.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“The bodies of the deceased will be handed over to their families following legal formalities. Investigations into the cause of the accident are ongoing," the police said.</p>

<p>The police made their biggest seizure as they uncovered more than 6,000 kg of meth in the remote outpost of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands last week in Myanmar.&nbsp;</p>

<p>According to Bengaluru police, Kumar and the 20-year-old victim had known each other since their boarding school days but lost contact after graduation, the two reconnected a few years later and began dating. Kumar allegedly promised to marry the woman and lured her into taking trips together. During these trips, he secretly filmed intimate moments with her, assuring her that he would keep the recordings private.</p>

<h2><strong>Extortion begins</strong></h2>

<p>Kumar soon began threatening to expose the videos and photos if she did not comply with his financial demands. Fearing the public humiliation of her private images being shared, the victim transferred a total of USD 295,250 (₹2.57 crore) to Kumar over several months. This included USD 147,625 (₹1.25 crore) from her grandmother’s account and USD 155,892 ( ₹1.32 crore) in cash.</p>

<p>"The matter was brought to my attention, and I ensured an investigation was initiated, which is currently underway," Dhankhar stated.</p>

<p>The issue led to a war of words between the opposition&nbsp;and the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>What did Singhvi say about recovery of cash from his seat?</strong></h2>

<p>Speaking to reporters, Singhvi, a senior leader of the Congress, said that an investigation was needed to identify who placed the money, rightly or by mistake, on his Rajya Sabha seat.</p>

<p>"...I heard this rather humorous news. I think there should be a rule to create a glass box that fully encloses the seat, secured with a lock and key. MPs should lock their seats before leaving, whether during the day or at night," Singhvi told the news agency ANI.</p>

<p>Speaking to the news agency ANI, BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla said, "Congress, cash and corruption, these three Cs always work in coordination... Wherever there is corruption and cash, Congress is found there... Why is Congress scared of investigation?"</p>

<p>"...Congress leaders have so much money that they don't even bother to take account of the money which is left (on the bench in Parliament). Since no leader came to collect the money, it raises doubts on many sources of the money that people know whose money it is but they don't come to collect it," BJP MP Dr Sudhanshu Trivedi said.</p>

<p>"If the Rajya Sabha chairman has made a statement then it means the matter is serious. The truth should come out. Why is the opposition running away from raising the issues of the public?... Why they (the opposition) are not allowing the parliament to function?..." BJP MP Anurag Thakur told reporters.</p>

<p>Meanwhile, Congress sources told the news agency that the recovery of money from Singhvi's seat was a ploy to divert attention from the Adani bribery case.</p>

<p>Sambit Patra, the spokesperson of the ruling BJP, said that the US deep state has been involved with a group of journalists and with the opposition leader Rahul Gandhi to pull down India's growth story with unsubstantiated allegations and malicious reports without a "shred of evidence".&nbsp;</p>

<p>"In 2017, it was the first year of the Trump administration when it (Quad) started at the vice-minister's level. Then in 2019, it was again under the Trump administration that it moved from the vice-minister's level to the foreign minister's level," Jaishankar said.</p>

<p>"And there is every reason for us to expect that they would say we got it right the first time, it's done well and therefore, we should keep with it," he added. India is scheduled to host the next Quad Summit in 2025.</p>

<p>On India's ties with China following the eastern Ladakh border row, Jaishankar referred to the implementation of the latest disengagement arrangement and said challenges remain with regard to de-escalation on the Line of Actual Control (LAC).</p>

<p>"Our entire relationship with China was predicated on the fact that the border areas would remain peaceful and stable and we had agreements to ensure that. In 2020, the Chinese chose to bring a lot of forces to the border areas and obviously, we responded with counter-deployments," he said.</p>

<p>Referring to the completion of the disengagement process, the external affairs minister said it took almost four years and a half.</p>

<p>"We still have challenges left with us. We still have to de-escalate because what we have done is disengage forces from close proximity," he said. Jaishankar suggested that the focus will now be on de-escalation as a very large number of forces are still deployed in the region.</p>

<p>"Now, we have to sit down and discuss with China how we rebuild our relationship and that is an exercise that still has to be undertaken," he said.</p>

<p>The eastern Ladakh military standoff between India and China began in May 2020 and a deadly clash at the Galwan Valley in June that year resulted in a severe strain in ties between the two neighbours.</p>

<p>The face-off effectively ended following the completion of a disengagement process from the last two friction points of Demchok and Depsang under an agreement finalised on October 21.</p>

<p>Two days after the pact was firmed up, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping held talks on the sidelines of the BRICS&nbsp;Summit in the Russian city of Kazan.</p>

<p>At the meeting, the two sides agreed to revive several dialogue mechanisms, including the Special Representatives' dialogue on boundary questions.</p>

<p>India's special representative for the dialogue is National Security Advisor Ajit Doval while the Chinese side is headed at the talks by Foreign Minister Wang Yi.</p>

<p>On India's ties with Japan, Jaishankar highlighted the significance of the partnership between the two countries in the area of semiconductors.</p>

<p>"Japan is revitalising its semiconductor sector and India, after a very long period of neglect, has also announced a semiconductor mission.... Lot of things are happening," he said.</p>

<p>"Both of us also happen to work with Taiwan. I am seeing the beginnings of something potentially important here," the minister added.</p>

<p>Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri will make a visit to Bangladesh on December 9 and meet his counterpart there, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on Friday.</p>

<p>Asked about the situation on the ground in Bangladesh and the arrest of Hindu monk Chinmoy Krishna Das, MEA affirmed hope that the legal rights of the concerned individuals are respected and the trial is conducted in a "fair and transparent" manner.</p>

<p>"As far as the situation on the ground regarding the individuals you want, we want to reiterate our position again that they have legal rights and we hope that these legal rights will be respected and that the trial will be fair and transparent. They will get a fair and transparent trial," Jaiswal further added.</p>

<p>Chinmoy Krishna Das, who is associated with the Sammilita Sanatani Jagaran Jote, was arrested in Dhaka on November 25 on 'sedition' charges. The arrest followed a complaint filed on October 31 by a local politician that accused Chinmoy Das and others of disrespecting Bangladesh's national flag during a rally of the Hindu community.</p>

<p>On December 3, a Bangladesh court set January 2, 2025, as the next date of hearing in the case. The Chattogram court deferred the hearing on the bail petition of Chinmoy Krishna Das to January 2, The Daily Star reported. <p>The current protests are being led by the Bharatiya Kisan Parishad (BKP) in collaboration with other farmer organisations. The protesting farmers seek compensation and benefits linked to agricultural reforms, including a legal guarantee for Minimum Support Price (MSP).&nbsp;</p>

<p>Earlier on Friday, the farmers (from the state of Punjab)&nbsp;suspended their (Delhi Chalo) march to the national capital as the police started using tear gas shells to control and scatter them from crossing the border.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Visuals from the Shambu border showed police barricades where the protesting farmers were stopped. Security has been beefed up at the border.</p>

<p>Speaking to the news agency ANI, a police official said, "The farmers do not have any permission to enter Haryana. The Ambala administration has imposed Section 163 of the Bhartiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita."</p>

<p>"Farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher who was also stopped at the border said that either they (farmers) should be allowed to go to Delhi peacefully or their demands should be talked about," the police official added.</p>

<p>The queries also included how much amount was there in the relief fund before the disaster, how much was available for use out of it and what portion of the amount allocated by the Centre was utilised.</p>

<p>The bench said once these queries are addressed, it will issue further directions.</p>

<p>The queries from the court came during a hearing of a plea initiated by it for prevention and management of natural disasters in the state in the wake of the landslides that devastated three villages in Wayanad district and claimed over 200 lives.</p>

<p>Two weeks ago, the Centre had told the court that a high-level committee had approved an assistance of around Rs 153 crore from the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF) towards the Wayanad landslide disaster-related relief efforts.</p>

<p>It had also informed the HC that the Kerala government provided its requirement for Rs 2,219 crore towards recovery and reconstruction only on November 13 and that it was under consideration.</p>
