"India has people of many religions, languages living happily together," said Gandhi.
"Reason they have been able to do so are the ideas of Congress," he added.
Gandhi repeated what he had said a day earlier at Princeton University -- that the central question facing India is how it will create jobs for the millions of young people entering the job market every year.
"Every day 30,000 new people enter the job market in India but only 450 are getting employed," said Gandhi.
"Everywhere you look there is an Indian working for US & India, building both countries. You are our backbone," Gandhi also said to his NRI audience.
