In India's Uttar Pradesh, a tragic collision between a double-decker bus and a milk tanker in the Unnao district on Wednesday (July 10) has claimed the lives of at least 18 people.

As per reports, the accident took place on the Lucknow-Agra Expressway in the Behta Mujawar police station area. 

What happened?

At around 5:15 in the morning (local time) the double-decker sleeper bus en route from Bihar's Shivgarh to Delhi rammed into the tanker transporting milk on the expressway.

The collision as per visuals being shared online was so severe that both the vehicles were shattered into pieces. At least 18 people were killed in the tragedy and 19 injured have been rushed to nearby hospitals for emergency treatment.

In a media briefing, Unnano DM Gaurang Rathi said that the initial investigation shows that the private bus was over-speeding when it rammed into the tanker.

CM Adityanath shares condolences

Taking to X, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath shared his condolences for the dead and prayers for the injured.

"The loss of life in a road accident in the Unnao district is extremely sad and heart-wrenching. My condolences are with the bereaved family," he wrote in Hindi.

CM Adityanath stated that the district administration officials have been instructed to reach the accident spot and speed up the relief work.
