Udaipur Violence | Clashes break out outside palace after new Maharana fails to get entry amid family feud

Udaipur Violence News:Violent clashes and stone pelting broke out in the north Indian city of Udaipur on Monday (Nov 26) after BJP MLA Vishvaraj Singh Mewar was coronated as the 77th Maharana of Mewar on Monday (Nov 25).
The clashes started after the BJP MLA and his supporters were denied entry inside the palace in the state of Rajasthan because of a stand-off with his cousin Dr Lakshay Raj Singh Mewar, who along with the Maharana's uncle Shreeji Arvind Singh Mewar manage the trust which now runs the palace.
Singh was anointed the titular head after his father Mahendra Singh Mewar died earlier this month.
The row started after 10 pm as the supporters of the MLA started throwing stones and also made attempts to get inside the gates of the palace.
As tensions escalated, others started retaliating inside the palace and stone pelting broke out from the two sides. In the violent brawl, three people suffered injuries as the police made attempts to control the mob.

As reported by PTI news agency, Singh was not allowed to enter the palace after a public notice was issued by his uncle Arvind Singh against the new Maharana's planned visit to the Eklingnath temple.
The temple houses the deity of the royal family and visiting the temple is part of the rituals carried out in the royal ceremony.

Along with the palace, the temple is also under the control of Arvind Singh, who is the managing trustee and chairman of Shree Eklingji Trust.
Police try to de-escalate situation outside Udaipur Palace
Senior police officials, including Superintendent of Police (SP) Yogesh Goyal and District Collector Arvind Kumar Poswal reportedly spoke to Vishvaraj Singh and tried to pacify his supporters.

Speaking to the media, Poswal said that the situation has been under control.
“The law and order situation is well under control. Talks were going on with palace representatives as well as the society representatives. We have agreed on certain issues, while talks are still going on for certain others," he added.
The roots of the dispute lie in the long-standing feud between newly-anointed Vishvaraj Singh’s father Mahendra Singh Mewar and his estranged brother Arvind Singh Mewar, who are descendants of famous Rajput king Maharana Pratap.
