Look forward to speaking with Modi on 'very high tariffs' against US, tweets Trump ahead of G20 meet

US President Donald Trump on Thursday tweeted that he was looking forward to speaking with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi about ''very high tariffs'' against the United States ahead of the duo set to meet on the sidelines of G20 summit in Osaka on Friday.
''I look forward to speaking with Prime Minister Modi about the fact that India, for years having put very high Tariffs against the United States, just recently increased the Tariffs even further. This is unacceptable and the Tariffs must be withdrawn!'' tweeted Trump as he departed US for the G20 summit in Osaka, Japan.
India had imposed retaliatory tariffs and announced a hike in custom duties on 28 US products earlier this month, after Washington ended trade concessions for India on June 1 under Generalized System of Preferences (GSP). The products whose customs duties were hiked include almond, apple, pulses and walnut.
Trump in the past often criticised India for high tariffs on US goods and called India a "tariff king".
