Five terrorists have been killed in an encounter with a joint team of security forces in Shopian district of south Kashmir, taking the toll of killed terrorists in the valley to 14 in 4 days.

Acting on specific information, security forces zeroed in on a location where terrorists were hiding which triggered a gunfight. 

“Five dead bodies have been recovered from the encounter site and operation has been concluded,” police said.

Sources in the police say this was a joint group of Hizb-ul-Mujahideen and Lashkar-e-Toiba terror outfit. 

All 14 terrorists have been killed in the Shopian district alone with the specific inputs about their presence with the J&K police. 

On Sunday, five Hizb-ul-Mujahideen terrorists were killed in the Reben area of Shopain district after forces launched a similar operation. Next, four terrorists were eliminated in the Pinjora area of the district.

Security forces say this has been a big success for them to “break the back” of the terror outfit in south Kashmir. 

A total of 93 terrorists have been killed so far this year and several overground workers (OGW) have also been arrested, who provide logistical and other support to terrorists.

Top commanders including an IED expert of Pakistan origin, Abdul Rehman, were also killed last week in an operation.
