FIFA fined the Israeli Football Association (IFA) 150,000 Swiss francs ($190,700) on Thursday for "multiple breaches" of its anti-discrimination obligations. A report by the disciplinary committee of world football's governing body found the IFA "failed to take meaningful action against Beitar Jerusalem" for "persistent and well-documented racist behaviour". In October 2024, the Palestine Football Association reported allegations of discrimination by the IFA to FIFA, which initiated an investigation. AFCON 2026 winners, Senegal, have called for an ‘independent international investigation’ into corruption charges following CAF’s decision to strip them of the coveted title and award it to Morocco. It all began after several Senegalese players walked off the pitch during the high-octane final in Rabat in protest of Morocco being awarded a penalty late in the second-half injury time. After team captain Sadio Mane urged the players to return to the field, Morocco missed the penalty, and Senegal’s Papa Gueye later scored in the extra time to hand his team a memorable win. Holders Paris Saint-Germain, record 15-time winners Real Madrid and Arsenal surged into the quarter-finals of the Champions League on Tuesday, while Sporting produced a brilliant comeback in Portugal to end Bodo/Glimt's remarkable run. Arsenal’s teenager, Max Dowman, at 16 years and 73 days, became the youngest-ever goal-scorer in Premier League and Gunners’ history, helping his side beat Everton on Saturday (Mar 14) and take a nine-point lead against Manchester City, who stumbled in a 1-1 draw at West Ham. Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal is chasing its first Premier League title in 22 years, and with nine points and one game in hand over their closest rivals, they have a chance to realise their dream this season. Meanwhile, City boss Pep Guardiola has insisted that the title race is not over yet, adding that the former champions will do everything possible to chase another PL trophy. Arsenal struggled to break down obdurate Everton until the teenage substitute turned the game in the final moments. Viktor Gyokeres finally found a way through in the 89th minute, with a helping hand from Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford, who flapped at Dowman's cross. The ensuing scenes of delirium on the pitch and in the stands underlined the significance of a fourth successive league win. There was still time for Dowman to run the length of the pitch and slot into an empty net with Pickford nowhere to be seen after coming up for an Everton corner in stoppage time. Watch Dowman's goal vs Everton -

"He changed the game every time he got the ball. He made things happen, and we looked like more of a threat," Arteta said of the 16-year-old. "To do it at that age, in this context, with the pressure and expectations to win the game, it's just not normal." Arsenal, trophyless since 2020, remain in the hunt for a quadruple. The leaders rode their luck to beat a depleted Everton, adding to the mounting feeling that they will be one of the least stylistically impressive champions in recent memory if they do take the crown. But Arteta and company won't care about that ahead of a huge week. The Gunners have a Champions League last-16 second leg against Bayer Leverkusen next week, with the tie level at 1-1, before heading to Wembley to face City in the League Cup final.
Man City, down but not out!
On the other hand, City's season is in danger of coming off the rails as West Ham clung on for a point that lifted them out of the relegation zone for the first time in three months. Pep Guardiola's men were thrashed 3-0 by Real Madrid in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie in midweek and have dropped four points to sides battling relegation in their last two Premier League outings. Bernardo Silva's attempted cross floated in at the far post to give City the lead at the London Stadium. But the advantage lasted less than four minutes before Konstantinos Mavropanos headed in from a corner. City dominated the second half but failed to find a way through as Erling Haaland's barren spell in front of goal goes on. "It's not over. Who said that? We didn't lose. We will continue," Pep said of City’s title chances this season. "Nine points is a lot against Arsenal, but it happened. We have the game at home, so we have to try until the end. "When it is not possible, then we congratulate the champion, but we have to try,” he continued. (With inputs from AFP)

US President Donald Trump has welcomed Iran to the FIFA World Cup 2026 to be staged in America, Mexico and Canada, but warned its football team of life-threatening risks on US soil. Just a day after Iran’s sports minister Ahmad Donyamali said on state television that the Iran men’s football team will withdraw from the showpiece event, citing the killing of its supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei by America, US President Trump admitted it might not be ‘appropriate’ for them to participate amid escalating war involving the two and Israel in West Asia. Taking to his Truth Social handle, US President Trump wrote, “The Iran National Soccer Team is welcome to the World Cup, but I really don’t believe it is appropriate that they be there, for their own life and safety."

Meanwhile, Iran’s sports minister’s remarks indicated that Iran has all but pulled out of the 48-team tournament starting June 11. Speaking on the state television, he said, “Considering that this corrupt regime has assassinated our leader, under no circumstances can we participate in the World Cup. Our children are not safe, and, fundamentally, such conditions for participation do not exist. “Given the malicious actions they have carried out against Iran, they have forced two wars on us over eight or nine months and have killed and martyred thousands of our people. Therefore, we certainly cannot have such a presence," the Iranian minister added. Meanwhile, FIFA President Gianni Infantino earlier revealed that Trump told him that he welcomes Iran's participation in the FIFA World Cup 2026. However, FIFA hasn’t yet addressed the security dynamics around Iran’s participation or its implications if it withdraws from the competition.
Iran at FIFA World Cup 2026
If Iran officially withdraws from the 2026 World Cup, FIFA will have to pick a new team to take its spot. Barcelona snatched a draw from the jaws of defeat against Newcastle in Champions League R16 first match on Tuesday (Mar 10) at St James' Park but a Barca fan was left gutted. The Spanish fan, who had decided to travel from London to saw his team play, ended up 366 miles (590 km approx) away from the venue but still at St James Park. The confusion arose from the same name of venues but as well as navigation skills of the fan.
