Malayalam actor Mohan Raj died at the age of 70 on Thursday (October 3)
The veteran star passed away near his residence. He was best known for playing the villain Keerikkadan Jose. That name stuck to him and he was commonly referred to as Keerikkadan.
Mohan Raj was not keeping well for sometime and he was undergoing treatment for various ailments at his home in Kanjiramkulam.

Mohan Raj was a famous name in Malayalam cinema. He gained widespread recognition for his iconic villainous role as "Keerikkadan Jose" in the Mohanlal-starrer Kireedam. He worked in the film industry for over three decades. He played various villains characters.
His most notable works include Uppukandam Brothers, Chenkol, Aaram Thampuran, and Narasimham, among others.

Mohan Raj’s co-star Mohanlal, whoportrayed the lead character Sethu in Kireedamsaid, “Our beloved Mohan Raj, who portrayed the immortal character Keerikkadan Jose in Kireedam, has left us. I remember his grandeur standing in front of the camera, facing off against Sethu, as if it were yesterday. With tears in my eyes, I bid farewell to my dear friend, who maintained goodness and humility in his personal life.”
Mohan Raj: The birth of a star
Mohan Raj had humble beginnings. He was born in a middle-class family in Kerala. He obtained a degree in economics, following which he enlisted in the Indian Army at the age of 20. He left the army because of a leg injury. He then passed competitive exams and joined the Enforcement Directorate. It was only in mid-30s when he joined films. He debuted with the 1988 film Moonnam Mura.
