During an exclusive chat with CNN News18, Ashwin’s father, Ravichandran, made a shocking revelation about his son’s retirement call after day five of the third Test in Brisbane. He said although calling time on a career is a personal choice and that he has no say in that, Ravichandran noted that constant humiliation regarding Ashwin not being the number one choice spinner regardless of the conditions might have pushed him to take this sudden decision, something his father also got to know about at the last minute.

“I too came to know last minute, actually. What was going on in his mind I don’t know. He just announced. I too accepted it with full pleasure. I did not have any feelings at all for that. But the way he gave his retirement, one part I was very happy, another part not happy because he should have continued,” Ashwin’s father said during the chat with the news outlet.
“(Retiring) is his (Ashwin’s) wish and desire, I cannot interfere in that, but the way in which he gave that, there could be many reasons. Only Ashwin knows, maybe humiliation," Ravichandran continued.

The veteran off-spinner is India's second-highest Test wicket-taker with 537 scalps besides his name, only behind the great Anil Kumble, who picked 619 wickets in his decorated career. Ashwin also scored six Test hundreds, becoming the first player to notch up five or more Test centuries besides picking over 500 wickets.
Though several reports indicated a major announcement just after the Brisbane tie, no one outside the players and the team management expected Ashwin to hang up his boots. 
Ashwin joined Rohit Sharma in the post-match presser and announced his decision to step aside from international cricket; he though continues to remain available for selection for his state side (Tamil Nadu) in the domestic sphere and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the IPL.
"This will be my last day as an Indian cricketer in all formats at the international level. After his dismissal in Brisbane's first innings, veteran India batter Cheteshwar Pujara explained how changing the batting position may have put a doubt in Rohit's mind.

Rahul, on the other hand, has been doing a fine job as an opener in Australia. The batter has scored 235 runs in six innings - the highest for India in the series so far and second highest overall behind Travis Head's 409.
Rahul has scored those runs at an average of 47 with two fifties and a highest of 84, which he hit in Brisbane, helping India draw the rain-affected Test.

R Ashwin shocked the cricketing fraternity by announcing his international retirement soon after the third Test between India and Australia, at The Gabba, Brisbane, ended in a draw. Ashwin ended his illustrious career with 537 Test scalps, only behind Anil Kumble (who tops the list for India with 619 wickets) and 228 wickets in white-ball formats.
Ashwin had a real chance of surpassing Kumble to become India's highest wicket-taker in the purest format. However, he retired in the middle of the ongoing 2024/25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT). Thus, Kumble reacted to his retirement and expressed his disappointment as he was backing Ashwin to surpass his wicket-tally.

Ravichandran Ashwin has said goodbye to international cricket. In a hybrid model, a neutral venue outside the designated hosting venue is added to the schedule, adjusting one team’s request to play all its matches (at that venue).

Though it has its challenges, the ICC and the host country would pick the neutral venue, considering security, logistics and other parameters.&nbsp;This approach ensures the participation of all teams regardless of their political situations while maintaining ICC events’ competitive integrity.

Meanwhile, in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 case, India will play all its matches, including against host Pakistan and the knockouts, should they qualify, at a neutral venue, preferably Dubai, with Pakistan playing its games at home.

“The ICC Board has approved that all matches between India and Pakistan played at ICC Events during the current rights cycle from 2024 to 2027 (which are to be hosted in India or Pakistan) will be played at a neutral venue proposed by the tournament host,” an ICC statement read.&nbsp;

The hybrid model will be adopted for the Champions Trophy 2025 (in Pakistan), 2025 Women’s World Cup (in India) and 2026 T20 World Cup (in India and Sri Lanka). Moreover, with the much-debated Champions Trophy venue discussion now settled, the ICC is working on finalising the tournament's schedule, an announcement that is just around the corner.&nbsp;

This approach ensures the participation of all teams regardless of their political situations while maintaining ICC events’ competitive integrity. Meanwhile, in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 case, India will play all its matches, including against host Pakistan and the knockouts, should they qualify, at a neutral venue, preferably Dubai, with Pakistan playing its games at home. “The ICC Board has approved that all matches between India and Pakistan played at ICC Events during the current rights cycle from 2024 to 2027 (which are to be hosted in India or Pakistan) will be played at a neutral venue proposed by the tournament host,” an ICC statement read. The hybrid model will be adopted for the Champions Trophy 2025 (in Pakistan), 2025 Women’s World Cup (in India) and 2026 T20 World Cup (in India and Sri Lanka). While India will play its matches at a neutral venue every time Pakistan gets to host an ICC event, the Men in Green will also not travel to India for any tournament. Though with Sri Lanka co-hosting the next T20 World Cup, it becomes easier to choose that country as the venue for all Pakistan matches, it remains to be seen which neutral venue India and ICC pick for Pakistan regarding the 2025 Women’s WC. Moreover, with the much-debated Champions Trophy venue discussion now settled, the ICC is working on finalising the tournament's schedule, an announcement that is just around the corner. During an exclusive chat with CNN News18, Ashwin’s father, Ravichandran, made a shocking revelation about his son’s retirement call after day five of the third Test in Brisbane. He said although calling time on a career is a personal choice and that he has no say in that, Ravichandran noted that constant humiliation regarding Ashwin not being the number one choice spinner regardless of the conditions might have pushed him to take this sudden decision, something his father also got to know about at the last minute.

“I too came to know last minute, actually. What was going on in his mind I don’t know. He just announced. I too accepted it with full pleasure. I did not have any feelings at all for that. But the way he gave his retirement, one part I was very happy, another part not happy because he should have continued,” Ashwin’s father said during the chat with the news outlet.

“(Retiring) is his (Ashwin’s) wish and desire, I cannot interfere in that, but the way in which he gave that, there could be many reasons. Only Ashwin knows, maybe humiliation," Ravichandran continued.

A Russian woman earlier accused of stowing away on a flight from New York to Paris was arrested again while on her way to Canada, authorities confirmed on Monday (Dec 16). Following her Paris flight fiasco, she was held in Philadelphia and was ordered not to leave the area except for court proceedings or meetings with her lawyers. However, she allegedly cut off her GPS-monitoring ankle device and boarded a bus to Canada.

The New York Times reported that the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Buffalo had arrested her again. The woman, named Svetlana Dali, is now scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday (Dec 17).

Last month, Dali grabbed global headlines after managing to enter a Delta fight without a boarding pass. She was spotted at John F Kennedy International Airport on November 26. Later, it was revealed that she entered the aircraft “through a special lane for airline employees masked by a large Air Europa flight crew."

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) said in a statement, “This is the only reported case of unauthorized access when over 18 million passengers were screened at TSA security checkpoints during the busiest Thanksgiving travel season ever. No one has ever fully breached the TSA security screening process."
