Ravindra Jadeja announces retirement from T20Is after India’s World Cup victory

Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has also announced retirement from T20 Internationals after the Men-in-Blue lifted a historic second T20 World Cup trophy, beating South Africa in the final on Saturday (Jun 29).
Jadeja, who played all matches in the tournament, including the all-important summit clash, took to his social media handles to convey the news of his retirement.
"With a heart full of gratitude, I bid farewell to T20 internationals. Like a steadfast horse galloping with pride, I’ve always given my best for my country and will continue to do so in other formats," wrote Jadeja.
"Winning the T20 World Cup was a dream come true, a pinnacle of my T20 International career. Thank you for the memories, the cheers, and the unwavering support," he added.

Jadeja, who played his first T20I World Cup in 2009 after making his debut against Sri Lanka in the same year, has been a constant part of the Indian squad in the format. Although Jadeja could not light up the 2024 edition with his performances, he remained high up in head coach Rahul Dravid's plans for the entirety of the tournament.
In his 74-match career in the shortest format of the game, Jadeja managed to score 515 runs while picking up 54 wickets. His most memorable performance came against England in 2022 when he scored 46 off 29 deliveries, helping India win the contest by 49 runs.

Jadeja joins Kohli and Sharma
Jadeja joins the likes of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma who also announced their retirement as soon as India lifted the coveted trophy after an agonising wait of 17 years.
The three stalwarts of Indian cricket have stepped down, knowing that the next two-year cycle for the T20 World Cup starts immediately with the tour to Zimbabwe. India has a solid bench strength that can take the burden that the three carried during their illustrious respective careers.
India managed to overcome their ICC tournamentjinx by beating South Africa in the final that went down to the very last over. Chasing a steep target of 177, the Proteas crumbled in the final 30 deliveries as India pulled off an astonishing comeback on the biggest of stages.
