India T20I skipper Surykumar Yadav says that he wants to be a leader of the side and not just captain. The comments were made by Surya before India took 2-0 lead in the three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka on Sunday (Jul 28).
"I don't want to be a captain; I want to be a leader. That's it. It felt good to see such good support here and in this country," Suryakumar said in a video posted by Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on X.
India won the first match on July 27 by 43 runs and the second T20I by seven wickets via DLS method. India were given a target of 78 runs in eight overs after the rain delay on Sunday which they chased down in 6.3 overs.

"We spoke about this before this tournament, what brand of cricket we want to play. Even though it was a shorter target, this is the template we want going ahead. With the weather around, I thought anything below 160 or 150 chasing would've been nice. We've seen games here have been tricky. Rain helped us. The way the boys batted...wonderful. Little bit of luck has to go around, and just blessed with the rain," Surya said after sealing the series.

The chase, however, hit a hiccup as Sanju Samson, who came in place for an ill Shubman Gill, got out for golden duck in the second over.
Skipper Suryakumar and Yashasvi Jaiswal then added 39 runs in the next 3.1 overs, taking India past 50. Matheesha Pathirana then dismissed Surya to give SL a chance.
Hardik Pandya, however, had other plans as he blazed his way to an unbeaten 9-ball 22 to take India home.
The final match of the series will be played on Thursday (Jul 30).
