Can blockchain change the way we invest, own assets and move money? That question sat at the heart of Finance Forward, a new initiative launched today by WION, part of the Zee Media Group, at India Blockchain Week 2026. Marking a new chapter in conversations around the future of finance, the initiative brings together financial institutions, technology leaders, policymakers and experts to examine how emerging technologies are reshaping the financial landscape. From new investment models to regulatory challenges, the platform aims to bridge conversations between industry and policymakers. Asset tokenisation, artificial intelligence, digital payments, taxation and cybersecurity dominated discussions on day one, according to a ground report by WION’s principal correspondent Disha Yadav from Mumbai.
Understanding tokenisation
At the centre of today’s discussions was asset tokenisation, the process of converting ownership rights in real-world assets into digital tokens on a blockchain. The technology raises the possibility of investing in a fraction of a property or financial asset rather than purchasing it outright, potentially lowering entry barriers for investors and improving the efficiency of transactions. Discussions at the event explored how this works in practice and what protections are available to investors.
Regulation, taxation and industry expectations
While the technology continues to evolve, participants noted that the legal and regulatory framework will ultimately determine how far it can go. Conversations centred on ownership rights, taxation, smart contracts and investor protection, with the industry seeking greater clarity on the roles of issuers, distributors, custodians and regulators. With Budget 2027 on the horizon, expectations around a clearer policy framework are also coming into focus. Also read: India to host Indian Ocean Rim Association foreign ministers in New Delhi
AI and cybersecurity
Beyond blockchain, artificial intelligence emerged as another key theme of the day. From AI-powered payments to automated financial transactions, new technologies are reshaping how consumers and businesses interact with money. However, greater digital adoption is also expanding the threat landscape, with deepfakes, identity theft, online financial fraud and the misuse of digital assets posing new challenges for law enforcement.
Bigger picture
Discussions also touched on cross-border taxation, the future of real estate investment, and the infrastructure needed to support digital assets. For India, participants noted, the opportunity lies in building an ecosystem where innovation can grow alongside strong consumer safeguards and institutional trust. As Finance Forward takes these conversations ahead, one question remains central: Is tokenisation the future of finance? The answer, organisers say, will depend on how effectively technology, regulation and investor confidence come together.

Following approval of the extradition request by Oman, a CBI team travelled to Muscat and escorted Chandrakar back to India. He will undergo a medical examination and be taken to Raipur after securing transit remand. Chandrakar will be produced before the CBI Special Judge in Raipur on Monday, the CBI said. The investigation into the Mahadev Online Book cases was taken up by the CBI at the request of the Chhattisgarh government in the ₹6000 crore money laundering case. Chargesheets have been filed under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, provisions of the Indian Penal Code relating to criminal conspiracy, cheating, and forgery, as well as the Chhattisgarh Gambling (Prohibition) Act, with Chandrakar named as a key accused. Chandrakar, who is in his early 30s, set up the Mahadev betting network along with co-founder Ravi Uppal. The duo reportedly fled to Dubai around 2019 and allegedly continued to operate their network of betting applications and websites from there. The development follows a series of efforts by Indian agencies to bring Chandrakar back to face investigation in the case. The CBI expressed gratitude to the Government of the Sultanate of Oman and the Royal Oman Police for their cooperation, highlighting the strong bilateral relations and mutual commitment to combating international crime. The extradition marks a key milestone in India’s ongoing efforts to hold foreign-based fugitives accountable under Indian law, the CBI said.

Investigations also revealed that part of the illegal betting proceeds was allegedly used to pay protection money to public servants. Following approval of the extradition request by Oman, a CBI team travelled to Muscat and escorted Sourabh Chandrakar back to India.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday slammed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi while addressing a gathering in Chandigarh for setting the tone for the 2027 Punjab assembly elections and questioned his leadership, political ambitions and prospects. The INDIA bloc had held a mock Parliament session on Saturday to ‘publicly impeach’ chief election commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, accusing him of irregularities in the electoral processes.
‘Rubbing salt on wounds of 1984 anti-Sikh riots’ victims’
The home minister targeted the INDIA bloc’s protest being held in Delhi on Sunday and slammed Rahul Gandhi for holding a rally in the capital on November 1, saying it would “rub salt on the wounds” of victims of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots.“Rahul Gandhi has organised a major rally in Delhi today—effectively rubbing salt into the wounds of the riot victims. We assumed that perhaps he was too young at the time, or that he hadn't studied history and was therefore unaware. Our party held a press conference requesting that they not hold the event on 1-2-3 Nov—the very days the anti-Sikh riots took place—as it would deeply hurt the sentiments of the Sikh community, including mothers, sisters, and children. But they remained adamant,” Shah said in Chandigarh.

Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi on Sunday (November 1) said Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar would be removed from his post and jailed, accusing him of vote theft. Rahul Gandhi's remark came while addressing the INDIA bloc’s mega rally at Ramlila Maidan in the national capital. At the rally, Rahul Gandhi said action will be taken against the CEC, claiming that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah would not have reached their political post without him. “Listen to me. He added that the wealth of the country has been concentrated in the hands of a few. He went on to argue that farmers are being denied their due, young people cannot find work, labourers are deprived of their rights, and the country’s wealth has concentrated in the hands of just two or three individuals. “We do not want such an India, and we will not accept such an India,” he said. Banswada police had initially registered a case of suspicious death after Kashiram’s father, Chakali Bhumayya, filed a complaint. However, once the preliminary post-mortem report confirmed murder, investigators revised the case to fall under Section 103 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Using crime scene analysis, witness statements, and technical evidence, police pieced together what happened. Acting on a tip-off, they arrested all three suspects in Hanmajipet village on October 30, and the accused admitted to their role in the killing during questioning. Officers recovered mobile phones and other items linked to the crime, and the case is now registered under Sections 103 and 238, read with Section 3(5), of the BNS. All three accused have since been presented in court and remanded to judicial custody.

Police arrested a woman with her two lovers in the Kamareddy district of Telangana for murdering her husband and dumping his body in a lake to make his death appear accidental. The deceased, identified as 26-year-old Chakali alias Gummadi Kashiram, was a daily-wage labourer from Hanmajipet village. After the murder, his body was discovered in Pachera Cheruvu outside the village on the night of October 23. Police claimed that Kashiram's wife, Gummadi Savitha (25), conspired his murder with her two lovers identified as Chintakindi Ramu (26) and Pasupula Santhosh (25). Police also said Savitha reportedly had been in a relationship with both Ramu, a daily-wage labourer, and Santhosh, a tractor driver. She plotted with them to get rid of her husband. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said that the country had fulfilled a pledge made a year ago on Patel's 150th birth anniversary, when he had vowed that the nation would not rest until it was free of Naxalism and Maoism. "Just a year later, we have fulfilled that resolve. Today, Naxalism has ended," he said. He said India is "safer than ever before" and "more determined," attributing this in large part to the growing self-confidence of its people, which he said stems from achievements and from the sensitivity of the government and the system.Pointing to recent global turmoil, the Prime Minister said several countries had been forced to cap the purchase of diesel and petrol. India, he noted, had faced dire predictions because of its large population and lack of significant domestic petroleum production. “Amidst these apprehensions, anti-India forces had also become active. However, it is a testament to India's capability that we did not allow the impact of this global energy crisis to hurt our citizens,” PM Modi said. Also Read: Nearly 5,000 Palestinians displaced in Hebron as Israeli military lockdown enters ninth day He described a world in which wars have broken out among multiple nations, large economies are struggling, resource shortages are growing, and global supply chains are disrupted. In a critical reference to earlier governments, the Prime Minister said talk of removing poverty had continued since Independence, and that votes had been sought in its name. "Those who raised the slogan of 'Remove Poverty,' they themselves kept becoming richer," he said, adding that he wished to discuss one major national achievement in this context. Paying homage to Patel, Modi said it is difficult to imagine today's India without him. "Sardar Patel has shaped India into its present form. Even after Partition, it was Sardar Patel who kept India safe from the Himalayas to the Indian Ocean," he said. At the INDIA bloc's symbolic public impeachment programme against Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar, Lok Sabha LoP Rahul Gandhi said that Kumar would not survive in his position, alleging that there was enough evidence against him. Along with the CEC, he accused PM Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah of colluding to "destroy the vote of the Indian people". Rahul Gandhi said, "Gyanesh Kumar is not going to survive as the Chief Election Commissioner. We already have enough proof to make sure that this gentleman cannot survive. And if the BJP insists on keeping him after we reveal what we know, then it will be very clear what the BJP's game is. This looks like a meeting of Lok Sabha MPs, Rajya Sabha MPs, and common citizens. But actually, this is a political weapon." Remember, you will not always hide behind that institution. Remember that one day, today or tomorrow, you are going to face the representatives of the people of India," he added.

Rahul Gandhi questions legitimacy of 2024 Lok Sabha election
Gandhi also alleged that the Election Commission's position on voter deletions raised questions about the legitimacy of the 2024 Lok Sabha election. He said the Election Commission itself claimed that the 2024 Lok Sabha election is an illegal election and the people who entered the Lok Sabha did so 'illegally'. "I just want to make one small point. 13.3 crore voters were deleted. That is one in every seven Indians. 15% of India's voters were deleted. In the last Lok Sabha election, these voters supposedly voted. The difference between the opposition and those who won the election was a 3% vote margin. So, the election was won by a 3% vote, and now the Election Commission itself is saying that 15% of those voters should never have voted. Which means that the Election Commission itself is stating that the 2024 Lok Sabha election is illegal, and the people who entered the Lok Sabha, the BJP people who entered the Lok Sabha, did so illegally," he said. Rahul Gandhi asked all those five or seven people below PM Modi and Amit Shah to have a look at the current situation of the country, warning that a political weapon is going to be placed on the streets of Delhi tomorrow. He highlighted that Gyanesh Kumar is just one element; many others have carried out assaults on the Union of India. Also read: INDIA bloc holds symbolic ‘public impeachment’ of CEC Gyanesh Kumar, lists 6 charges | Watch "Modi and Shah might be on top. We will deal with them, but you are their instruments, and so you are our first target. So if Mr Gyanesh Kumar thinks, or the five or seven people below him think, that immunity will save them, I would kindly suggest to them, with love and affection, to take a look at what is going on in the country. Please understand the mood of the people outside. You will see tomorrow itself. You will see tomorrow that a political weapon is going to be placed on the streets of Delhi. A united opposition is going to show you exactly what the mood of the people of this country is. You can continue to rig the elections. You can continue to control and allow the misuse of the CBI, the ED, and every single institution of this country. But we guarantee you that this is a temporary phenomenon," he said. "We are not going to let you escape. I also want to address the people who have carried out this assault on the Union of India. Gyanesh Kumar is just one element; there are many others. We know who they are, and we understand deeply who they are. This is a warning to you: things are shifting. Please hear this warning and realise that this is a new political weapon sitting in the garden, and this weapon is going to hurt you very badly if you continue down your path. I am saying this with love and affection; we are not nasty or evil people, but we will protect the Constitution and the voice of our people... I fully support the motion that Gyanesh Kumar should not only be impeached but should also be tried in a court of law for treason so that justice can be served," he added.

Rahul Gandhi alleged that the Election Commission's position on voter deletions raised questions about the legitimacy of the 2024 Lok Sabha election. Along with the CEC, he accused PM Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah of colluding to "destroy the vote of the Indian people".

But actually, this is a political weapon." "This is an extremely dangerous political weapon that is sitting in the garden of the Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, and this weapon is targeted directly at every single person, starting from Gyanesh Kumar, going to Modi, going to Shah, and every single person who has colluded to destroy the vote of the Indian people. Remember, you will not always hide behind that institution. Remember that one day, today or tomorrow, you are going to face the representatives of the people of India," he added.

Senior National Conference leader and Srinagar MP Aga Ruhullah Mehdi has defended his decision to quit the party and relinquish his parliamentary seat, saying his move is driven by principles and conscience rather than political ambition or electoral calculations. In a sharp attack on the party leadership, Ruhullah accused Chief Minister Omar Abdullah of betraying the mandate of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, alleging that the government had retreated from its commitments on Article 370, restoration of constitutional rights, reservations, employment and electricity relief. Asked whether quitting the party and his seat could amount to political suicide, Ruhullah dismissed concerns about the future of his political career. “If standing for principles is suicide, one should do that. If given a chance, I’ll commit this suicide multiple times, hundreds of times,” he said. “This is a pure decision of conscience, conviction and principles. One cannot trade principles for the perks of power, for a career,” he added. Ruhullah said voters had trusted the National Conference despite its past mistakes, hoping the party would stand up to the BJP and defend Jammu and Kashmir’s political, religious and cultural identity following the abrogation of Article 370. He alleged that the party began backtracking on its commitments almost immediately after the election results. Referring to Omar Abdullah’s post-election remarks on Article 370 and statehood, Ruhullah said the shift in emphasis was “shocking”, arguing that reducing the political struggle to the restoration of statehood risked normalising the existing status quo. Also read: INDIA bloc holds symbolic ‘public impeachment’ of CEC Gyanesh Kumar, lists 6 charges | Watch Ruhullah further alleged that the National Conference government facilitated silence in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly on the Waqf Amendment Act, calling it ironic that the only Muslim-majority Assembly had failed to pass a resolution against the legislation while other states had taken up the issue. Taking aim at the chief minister’s handling of disgruntled legislators following the recent Cabinet expansion, Ruhullah accused Omar Abdullah of publicly exposing private communications from party MLAs who had approached him regarding Cabinet positions. He alleged that the chief minister could have responded to the legislators privately instead of taking their messages to the media. Ruhullah contrasted the episode with criticism he had faced within the party for raising public issues in the media, saying the same standards of party discipline had not been applied consistently. On the National Conference’s future, Ruhullah said the party’s survival would be uncertain in the absence of its president, Farooq Abdullah. While wishing the veteran leader a long and healthy life, he claimed that the organisation would not survive under Omar Abdullah’s leadership or control once Farooq Abdullah was no longer at the helm. Asked about his political roadmap, Ruhullah said he was not immediately looking to launch a new party or pursue electoral calculations, but wanted to bring together individuals committed to political integrity and conviction. “There’s no dearth of political parties. There’s a dearth of political character and conviction,” he said, citing what he described as repeated betrayals by successive political formations, including the PDP and the National Conference. He said leaders dissatisfied with the party over positions or personal ambitions would have no place in his proposed political platform. Those willing to join, he said, must be prepared to sacrifice their positions and return to the people without political baggage. “Come back empty-handed. Every baggage shed, every greed kicked away. Come back to the people. Let’s start afresh, start from zero,” he said.

Enterprises are moving from paper-based and spreadsheet-heavy purchasing to intelligent procurement, empowered by growing technology, including artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), and robotic process automation (RPA), in order to transform the entire source-to-pay (S2P) lifecycle. Several firms have shifted from using AI merely to analyse and spend toward deploying it as an operator, as agents now create purchase orders, route multi-level approvals, and flag supplier anomalies before any involvement of humans. Interestingly, teams in the firms deploying AI typically cut cycle times by 40 to 60 per cent and improve productivity and efficiency of the result more precisely without consuming extra effort and time. While AI, automation and cloud platforms are becoming increasingly accessible, many organisations continue to operate with legacy systems, fragmented data and processes that were not designed for today’s pace of business. For large enterprises, the challenge is no longer simply about investing in newer technology. It is about connecting existing systems, improving the quality of data and redesigning workflows so that technology can deliver measurable improvements in productivity, efficiency and decision-making. This shift is particularly visible in functions such as procurement, where organisations are looking to move beyond manual processes and disconnected systems towards more intelligent, integrated and user-friendly experiences. At the same time, the growing use of AI is raising new questions around governance, security, human oversight and how businesses can translate experimentation into tangible operational value. In a conversation with WION, Trishna Patel, Head, Ewiz Procure, Powerweave, and Reena Ravindran, VP – Delivery, Powerweave, discuss the major challenges enterprises experience in modernising legacy environments and the changing expectations around procurement. They also focused on how AI can deliver measurable business outcomes, and the importance of balancing automation with human judgement and responsible technology adoption. 1. Many enterprises continue to operate with legacy systems and fragmented data. What are the biggest challenges they face when modernising their technology infrastructure? Trishna Patel, Head- Ewiz Procureat Powerweave: One of the biggest misconceptions is that modernisation means replacing legacy technology. In reality, the bigger issue is often the fragmentation of data, processes and workflows around it. Large enterprises have invested heavily in ERP and other core platforms, but many still operate with disconnected systems, inconsistent master data and manual processes outside those platforms. Modernisation is therefore as much a data and operating-model challenge as a technology one. The starting point should be the business problem: where is the process breaking down, where is data unreliable, and where are manual interventions limiting visibility or efficiency? "We see this often in procurement. With ewiz procure, we work alongside systems such as SAP, Oracle and Coupa. We first understand the business objective and process gaps, then fix the underlying data and governance, automate the right workflows, and introduce AI where it can add meaningful value. That is where enterprise modernisation is heading: not replacement for replacement’s sake, but making existing investments work harder through cleaner data, better-connected processes and more intelligent automation," Trishna said. 2. With AI becoming more accessible, how can businesses move beyond experimentation and translate AI investments into measurable operational outcomes? Reena Ravindran, VP-Delivery at Powerweave: AI will create real value when businesses stop treating it as a standalone technology experiment and start embedding it into the way work actually gets done. The right question is not how many AI pilots an organisation has launched, but which business metric has improved because of them. To get there, AI needs to sit inside a defined workflow where it can influence decisions, automate repetitive steps and improve cycle times. That also requires the right foundation: reliable data, clear process ownership, team training, change management and controlled evaluation. Without those elements, even a strong AI capability can struggle to deliver sustained operational value. We have seen this in practice. In one chemical manufacturing deployment, the results came not from AI alone, but from redesigning the procurement workflow around structured data, automation, system integration and digital decision support. PR-to-PO processing time was reduced by 87%, while supplier onboarding time dropped by 95%. I think that is the real shift enterprises need to make. AI should not sit beside the process as another tool. It needs to be embedded into the workflow, supported by good data, governance and adoption. That is what turns experimentation into measurable business outcomes. 3. How are customer expectations evolving in procurement, particularly among manufacturers, distributors and wholesalers? Trishna Patel, Head- Ewiz Procure at Powerweave: Procurement users are no longer comparing their experience only with other B2B systems. They are comparing it with the best digital experiences they use every day, raising expectations around speed, visibility, self-service and ease of use. They expect every interaction with a procurement tool to feel seamless and intuitive, whether they are searching for a product, raising a request, approving a purchase or onboarding a supplier. With tools like ChatGPT shaping user behaviour, that experience is also becoming more conversational. Users increasingly expect to describe what they need in natural language and be guided to the right action without navigating complex menus. For manufacturers, distributors and wholesalers, the challenge is to hide complexity rather than expose it. Data, workflows, approvals and intelligence need to work together behind the scenes while the user gets a simple, connected experience. The competitive advantage will increasingly come from removing friction across the procurement journey while improving control, visibility and compliance. 4. How does Powerweave measure the impact of its solutions for customers? Could you share examples of business challenges addressed and outcomes achieved? Reena Ravindran, VP-Delivery at Powerweave: Technology should never be the outcome. The outcome is the only reason to deploy technology in the first place. We therefore establish a baseline before measuring impact. In ewiz procure, customers have seen 8–12% savings on indirect procurement, sourcing cycles around 30% faster and 27% lower process costs. In one procurement data cleaning project, we helped uncover €40M vendor-consolidation opportunity for a global manufacturer. The opportunity was already there. We just helped them uncover it. In awspromostack, AI has reduced order-entry effort by 40% and art and booking effort by 60%, while storefront and product-listing creation is 80% faster. Our operations process more than 40,000 orders a day at over 98% accuracy. Across these examples, the principle is consistent: we measure what changed in the business, not how much technology was deployed 5. With customers across multiple geographies, how does Powerweave adapt its solutions to different markets, regulatory environments and business requirements? Trishna Patel, Head- Ewiz Procure, Powerweave: Global technology does not mean identical technology everywhere. The foundation can be common, but the context cannot. Regulations, workflows, data structures and customer expectations vary significantly by market. The real capability lies in knowing what should be standardised and what must remain local. Snowkap is a good example. An Indian business may operate under BRSR and BRSR Core while also responding to frameworks such as CSRD, GRI, TCFD or IFRS when serving global markets. The same principle applies to procurement. ewiz procure works with the customer’s existing ERP, S2P and supplier landscape, while adapting workflows, data structures, approvals and governance to local business requirements rather than forcing a single operating model everywhere. Our approach is therefore to build adaptable technology around the customer’s reality. Scale comes from a strong common foundation; relevance comes from understanding the market, regulations and operating model in which that foundation has to work. 6. As AI becomes more deeply integrated into business operations, what responsibilities do technology leaders have in ensuring its adoption is practical, secure and aligned with business objectives? Reena Ravindran, VP-Delivery, Powerweave: The responsibility of a technology leader is no longer simply to ask whether AI can be deployed. It is to decide where AI can create measurable business value, how it should fit into existing workflows, and where human judgement must remain. AI is highly effective at processing information, identifying patterns and automating repetitive work. But relationships, commercial judgement, risk and strategic decisions often depend on context that cannot be captured in data alone. That is why we believe in progressive adoption: automate administrative work first, augment human decision-making next, and introduce greater autonomy only where the controls, data and context support it. Security and governance are equally fundamental. That means clear access controls, data governance, auditability, defined decision rights and human oversight, alongside strong enterprise security standards. Powerweave's platforms and operations are ISO 27001 certified and SOC 2 Type II audited. Responsible AI ultimately comes down to four things: a clear business purpose, reliable data, appropriate controls and clear accountability for the outcome.
