British Prime Minister Keir Starmer pledged Tuesday to boost defence spending to 2.5 per cent of the economy by 2027, as uncertainty reigns over US President Donald Trump's commitment to European security.
Starmer expressed an intent to eventually reach three per cent, a rise of 0.7 per cent from current spending that would mark the biggest increase since the end of the Cold War.

The government would "set a clear ambition for defence spending to rise to 3 per cent of GDP in the next parliament," he added.
Trump has demanded that NATO allies more than double their defence spending targets to five percent of economic output.

In September last year, thousands of pagers used by Hezbollah operatives in Lebanon exploded, reportedly killing 40 and wounding 3,000 Hezbollah militants.
Later, Netanyahu accepted that he had "okayed" the pager attacks.
"Netanyahu confirmed Sunday that he greenlighted the pager operation in Lebanon," spokesperson Omer Dostri told news agency AFP.&nbsp;
The strikes were conducted shortly after Israel declared its intent to expand its military efforts against Hezbollah along the Lebanon border.

"The Holy Father continues to be alert and spent the day in an armchair even if he was suffering more than yesterday," it said.&nbsp;

Cybercriminals and hackers used to hijack phone numbers and steal verification codes. The hackers often used to trick users into revealing their one-time SMS codes through phishing attacks, making SMS authentication a less secure option.&nbsp;
Currently, Gmail users receive a six-digit authentication code via SMS after entering their passwords.&nbsp;
This was introduced in 2011 and has been one of the most widely used security measure despite newer and more secure alternatives.&nbsp;

Moreover, it is also unclear whether Google will also discontinue phone-call-based authentication, which users used to opt for instead of SMS codes.&nbsp;

&ldquo;They drove across a field, up to the front steps and smashed and broke in through a window.&rdquo;
&ldquo;They knew precisely where to go, broke down the wooden door to the cubicle where the toilet was fully plumbed in, removed it, leaving water pouring out of the pipes, and drove away...All in all, they spent just five minutes in the building,&rdquo; he said.

<h2>Who stole the &lsquo;Golden Lavatory&rsquo;?</h2>
Michael Jones, 39, from Oxford, Frederick Sines, 36, also known as Frederick Doe, from Winkfield, Windsor, Berkshire, and Bora Guccuk, 41 are accused of stealing the artwork. Another man James Sheen has also been named in connection to the heist.
Jones, when he entered his plea in January, denied stealing the artwork in an overnight raid in the early hours of September 14, 2019.&nbsp;
Sines and Guccuk have also denied charges of conspiracy to transfer criminal property.&nbsp;
The prosecution however alleges that Jones had taken a photograph of the artwork the day before &ldquo;as part of the reconnaissance for the burglary&rdquo;.
Christopher remarked, &ldquo;The work of art was never recovered. It appears to have been split up into smaller amounts of gold and never recovered.&rdquo;
It is alleged that Sines and Guccuk conspired with one of the burglars&mdash;James Sheen&mdash;to offload some stolen gold in the weeks following the crime.
Jurors heard that a fourth defendant, Sheen, 40, from Wellingborough, Northamptonshire, in April 2024 pleaded guilty to burglary, conspiracy to transfer criminal property, and one count of transferring criminal property at Oxford Crown Court.

The dairy had information related to the crimes of 25 years. In his diary, the doctor described himself as a "major pervert" and a "paedophile".
"And I am very happy about it," he recorded.

Le Scouarnec used assault his patients when they used to be under&nbsp; anaesthesia or were recovering from surgeries in hospitals.
This means that majority of his victims did not even have a clue about the assaults until police told them about it with the help of his diary.&nbsp;
"Everything in this terrible story is out of the ordinary... it wasn't the victims that approached the investigators but the investigators that alerted the victims," public prosecutor St&eacute;phane Kellenberger said in court.
"Many of them had no memory... several would have rather gone on not knowing. But silence had reigned for too long," the prosecutor said.&nbsp;

US President Donald Trump said Monday that tariffs he unveiled on Canada and Mexico are moving forward as planned, addressing reporters after meeting with French counterpart Emmanuel Macron, who urged "fair competition" in trade.
The two leaders' talks, which focused on the conflict in Ukraine, come as Trump threatens allies and adversaries alike with fresh tariffs, sparking a flurry of negotiations.
Shortly after taking office, Trump announced duties of up to 25 per cent on Canadian and Mexican imports, citing illegal immigration and the flow of deadly fentanyl.
But he issued a last-minute halt to the levies for a month as talks continued.
The pause ends next Tuesday, and all eyes are on whether the North American neighbours can come to deals to avert their implementation -- which would snarl supply chains in key sectors such as auto manufacturing.
"The tariffs are going forward on time, on schedule," Trump told a press conference on Monday.
Trump's update came after Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum said earlier Monday that talks with Washington would continue this week to avoid the sweeping levies.
She expressed optimism about reaching a deal with Trump, hinting at potential levies on Chinese goods to secure an agreement.
Sheinbaum also signalled that Mexico was open to an early review of its trade agreement with the United States and Canada ahead of a 2026 deadline.
Separately, Canadian Foreign Minister Melanie Joly told reporters Monday that "the threat of tariffs is a real one, and may continue for a while."
Trump reiterated at his press conference with Macron that Washington is also seeking "reciprocity" with other countries.
He added: "If somebody charges us, we charge them."

At around 9:49 am (0049 GMT) five 50 metre (164.04 feet) steel structures supporting the highway bridge collapsed one after the other after being hoisted into place by a crane, reported the Yonhap news agency.
The National Fire Agency in a statement said that at least four people have died and five of the six injured are in critical condition.

As per Yonhap, several slabs placed on a pier fell to the ground, crushing 10 people working underneath the bridge. At the time of writing this, one person was still trapped under the rubble and rescue workers were trying to pull them out.
Acting President Choi Sang-mok has issued emergency instructions to deploy all available resources and personnel for the rescue operation.
Hyundai Engineering, the builder, apologised for the loss of lives and injuries and said it was "actively cooperating with the relevant authorities to ensure a swift site recovery and a thorough investigation into the exact cause of the accident".
