Louvre Abu Dhabi opened a new exhibition on Wednesday (Oct 14), exploring how maritime trade connected civilisations across the Indian Ocean. Spices and Wonders: Sailing the Indian Ocean runs until February 14, 2027. Organised with the Guimet National Museum of Asian Arts in Paris, the show brings together about 240 artworks and historical objects from 24 lenders. Lenders include the Asian Civilisations Museum in Singapore, the National Museum of the Philippines and the Al Sabah Collection in Kuwait. The exhibits cover maritime exchange from antiquity to the 17th century and include archaeological finds, jewellery, religious artefacts and objects recovered from shipwrecks. The exhibition places the Arabian Gulf at the centre of the story. Kimberly Guilfoyle, the former US ambassador to Greece who resigned Tuesday (Oct 13), has left some Trump insiders concerned that she could reveal private details about the president's family, according to a report. Guilfoyle allegedly keeps a "burn book" of sensitive information. And she resigned amid a scandal over allegations that she asked a Trump donor to pay off a $100,000 credit card bill days before her Senate confirmation hearing. Other allegations about her conduct at the US embassy in Athens have also surfaced. She has denied the claims. "I intend to vigorously defend my name, my reputation, and my integrity," she said in a statement Tuesday, adding that she would "always be a loyal supporter" of the president. A six-year relationship with Donald Trump Jr. gave Guilfoyle access to private conversations among key figures in Trump's circle, according to news outlet Daily Mail. The couple split in late 2024, around the time US President Trump named her ambassador. Trump Jr. has since married Palm Beach socialite Bettina Anderson. One anonymous source told the newspaper that allies feared she could release the contents of a diary now that she has "nothing to lose." Her troubles began late last month, when the Journal reported she had promoted a Greek construction firm where one of her advisers worked as a lobbyist. She reportedly texted him, "Honey please I need you to get this done for me today," and asked that the money be wired without leaving a paper trail. Reports suggest that aides discussed removing her while Secretary of State Marco Rubio was in Greece from October 6 to 8, but he did not want to overshadow his speech at the Acropolis. Rubio defended her at the time, saying reporters should not treat every source's claim as "gospel." Trump had grown irritated by the allegations and was bothered that she appeared to be profiting from his presidency. One anonymous source told the newspaper that allies feared she could release the contents of a diary now that she has "nothing to lose." "Kimberly knows where the bodies are buried," the source said. Another insider said she was "way inside that family and political operation for years." Also read: US midterms 2026: Trump under election watch? "She, I guess, dated my son a long time ago." The Independent said it has contacted the White House for comment. The Daily Mail reported that some of Trump's advisers tried to save her position before she was asked to resign over fears of what she might reveal outside the family's orbit. Her troubles began late last month, when the Journal reported she had promoted a Greek construction firm where one of her advisers worked as a lobbyist. She then reportedly began calling influential Trump supporters and officials to ask for their backing. New press secretary Katie Zacharia announced at her first briefing that the president had asked Guilfoyle to resign. In her resignation statement, Guilfoyle said her "gratitude and respect" for Trump and Rubio was "unwavering."

Trump allies are reportedly on edge after former US Ambassador to Greece Kimberly Guilfoyle's ouster, fearing her alleged "burn book" could expose sensitive Trump family secrets and internal political feuds.

Ukrainian military on Thursday claimed it had struck the Borisoglebsk airfield in Russia's Voronezh region in an overnight strike and destroyed six Su-34M military ‌aircraft. Taking to Telegram, Ukraine’s military general staff said it had confirmed damage of varying degrees to all six aircraft. The Ukrainian army used its Neptune coastal missile system in the attack. According to Kyiv International, Neptune is Ukraine's ground-launched, domestically produced anti-ship cruise missile having a maximum range of several hundred kilometers.

There has been no confirmation from the Rsussian side so far on the attack or damaged caused to the aircraft. The Su-34M is a large fighter-bomber worth millions of US dollars. It has frequently been used by Russia in its war with Ukraine to drop glide bombs onto Ukrainian cities near the frontline.
Russia attacks Kyiv with barrage of missiles
The attack as claimed by Ukraine comes two days after Russia launched a barrage of ballistic missiles targeting Kyiv and other locations. Zelenskyy said Russia launched more than 39 ballistic missiles and over 120 attack drones and loitering munitions during an overnight assault on Tuesday. The attacks primarily targeted energy facilities and other critical infrastructure in Kyiv and Kharkiv, killing six people and leaving approximately 600,000 without electricity, according to the Ukrainian president. Zelenskyy alleged that failure by US to provide advance warnings to Kyiv led to the attacks. He said Ukraine ‘received no advance warning from our partners’ before Russia launched a barrage of ballistic missiles targeting Kyiv and other locations early on Tuesday. The alleged failure to provide advance warnings has raised questions about the status of intelligence cooperation between Washington and Kyiv.

US considering use of ‘mother of all bombs’ in its war with Iran: Report

Amid protests against India’s top election officer Gyanesh Kumar, led by the youth movement Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) and joined by opposition political parties, some sections of the media and government-aligned observers allege foreign attempts to destabilise the government of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Much of this speculation has focused on the US. While the merits of these allegations are up for debate, analysts and historians point to the US record of engineering or attempting regime change in several countries, including democracies. Such operations involved various agencies and organisations such as the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), aid agencies that channel funds through non-governmental organisations (NGOs), and arms suppliers that equipped different sides of the political divide in countries across continents.
Allegations of foreign backing for the current protests in India
A recurring theme in the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) allegations is that foreign forces are backing the protests. Sukanta Majumdar, a Union minister, described the movement as an attempt to “destabilise the country”, while BJP president Nitin Nabin accused it of acting “at the behest of foreign forces”.Security agencies are examining social media posts and profiles allegedly linked to foreign countries, including Pakistan, as well as claims about financial and material support for the CJP and other groups. Questions have also been raised about whether some protest organisers were in contact with personnel linked to the US Embassy, whether workshops involved American consultants, and whether money transfers from US-based foundations to Indian NGOs were connected to the protests. At the time of writing, no official findings confirming these allegations had been made public.https://www.wionews.com/videos/cjp-protest-supreme-court-rejects-plea-for-free-hand-to-delhi-police-1791545747388/embed
American organisations under scrutiny in India: Recent developments
What is often described as the US “deep state”, the official American aid agency, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), and the National Endowment for Democracy (NED) and its affiliated institutes are frequently mentioned in these allegations. These include the National Democratic Institute (NDI) and the International Republican Institute (IRI).The Open Society Foundations, established by billionaire philanthropist George Soros, and related entities have also been accused of funding NGOs, media outlets, activists and investigative projects to criticise or destabilise the Modi government, amplify protests and influence electoral narratives. These claims remain contested and should be distinguished from established evidence.Such funding is often linked in political debates to civil society organisations, human rights groups and media outlets critical of the government on issues such as minority rights, farmers’ protests and democratic backsliding. Over the past 12 years, the Indian government has tightened enforcement of the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act (FCRA), cancelling the registrations of dozens of NGOs over alleged violations and concerns about foreign interference in India's internal affairs. Also read: US Singer Mary Millben alleges foreign funding for CJP, warns against anti-Modi forces: All you need to know In 2025, the BJP cited reports that the Organised Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP), an investigative journalism network, receives funding from the US government. The party accused the organisation of producing material targeting Modi and his associates, describing this as part of a “deep state” agenda to destabilise India. Some of these allegations have also been linked politically to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.Former US State Department official Mike Benz has made unverified claims about American interference in Indian elections, including the 2019 general election, through USAID, think tanks, technology platforms and efforts to influence public narratives. In 2025, US Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard said American intelligence agencies were not involved in regime-change efforts in India.USAID has spent hundreds of millions of dollars on development and governance programmes in India over successive administrations, often working through local organisations. In 2016, India placed the NED, which provides grants to civil society and related groups, under scrutiny in connection with FCRA-related restrictions.
Past allegations of US influence operations in Indian politics
India’s political discourse has repeatedly featured allegations that the US has tried to influence political outcomes in the country to advance its own interests. In his 1978 memoir, A Dangerous Place, former US ambassador to India Daniel Patrick Moynihan wrote that the US had provided financial assistance to the Indian National Congress on two occasions to help it counter communist influence, once in Kerala and once in West Bengal. One payment was reportedly made to Indira Gandhi, who later became prime minister, when she was a Congress party official.Another US diplomat, Ellsworth Bunker, also claimed financial assistance to the Congress, citing concerns about Soviet funding for the Communist Party of India during the Cold War. Indira Gandhi publicly rejected the allegations as “malicious, motivated and absolutely baseless”.There have also been allegations that the CIA, operating through aid channels, supported the anti-communist Vimochana Samaram, or Liberation Struggle, in Kerala. The movement contributed to the political campaign against the south Indian state’s Communist government, which was dismissed by the central government in 1959. Allegations of US interference in Indian politics have resurfaced amid protests against the Modi government over the actions of top election official Gyanesh Kumar. This is nothing new. Foreign funding and influence claims are part of historical political discourse in India

Allegations of foreign backing for the current protests in India A recurring theme in the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) allegations is that foreign forces are backing the protests. Sukanta Majumdar, a Union minister, described the movement as an attempt to “destabilise the country”, while BJP president Nitin Nabin accused it of acting “at the behest of foreign forces”. Security agencies are examining social media posts and profiles allegedly linked to foreign countries, including Pakistan, as well as claims about financial and material support for the CJP and other groups. Questions have also been raised about whether some protest organisers were in contact with personnel linked to the US Embassy, whether workshops involved American consultants, and whether money transfers from US-based foundations to Indian NGOs were connected to the protests. At the time of writing, no official findings confirming these allegations had been made public. https://www.wionews.com/videos/cjp-protest-supreme-court-rejects-plea-for-free-hand-to-delhi-police-1791545747388/embed American organisations under scrutiny in India: Recent developments What is often described as the US “deep state”, the official American aid agency, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), and the National Endowment for Democracy (NED) and its affiliated institutes are frequently mentioned in these allegations. These include the National Democratic Institute (NDI) and the International Republican Institute (IRI). The Open Society Foundations, established by billionaire philanthropist George Soros, and related entities have also been accused of funding NGOs, media outlets, activists and investigative projects to criticise or destabilise the Modi government, amplify protests and influence electoral narratives. These claims remain contested and should be distinguished from established evidence. Such funding is often linked in political debates to civil society organisations, human rights groups and media outlets critical of the government on issues such as minority rights, farmers’ protests and democratic backsliding. Some of these allegations have also been linked politically to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. Former US State Department official Mike Benz has made unverified claims about American interference in Indian elections, including the 2019 general election, through USAID, think tanks, technology platforms and efforts to influence public narratives. In 2025, US Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard said American intelligence agencies were not involved in regime-change efforts in India. USAID has spent hundreds of millions of dollars on development and governance programmes in India over successive administrations, often working through local organisations. In 2016, India placed the NED, which provides grants to civil society and related groups, under scrutiny in connection with FCRA-related restrictions. Past allegations of US influence operations in Indian politics India’s political discourse has repeatedly featured allegations that the US has tried to influence political outcomes in the country to advance its own interests. In his 1978 memoir, A Dangerous Place, former US ambassador to India Daniel Patrick Moynihan wrote that the US had provided financial assistance to the Indian National Congress on two occasions to help it counter communist influence, once in Kerala and once in West Bengal. One payment was reportedly made to Indira Gandhi, who later became prime minister, when she was a Congress party official. Another US diplomat, Ellsworth Bunker, also claimed financial assistance to the Congress, citing concerns about Soviet funding for the Communist Party of India during the Cold War. Indira Gandhi publicly rejected the allegations as “malicious, motivated and absolutely baseless”. There have also been allegations that the CIA, operating through aid channels, supported the anti-communist Vimochana Samaram, or Liberation Struggle, in Kerala. The movement contributed to the political campaign against the south Indian state’s Communist government, which was dismissed by the central government in 1959. Led by EMS Namboodiripad, it was the first democratically elected Communist government in India. However, claims of direct CIA involvement in the movement remain disputed. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Wednesday (Oct 14) vowed that his nation would resume strikes on Russian oil refineries despite US President Donald Trump's "energy ceasefire". In a fiery interview with FT, he said, "The block [on attacking refineries] is out. We’re done." It was launched on August 24 at President Donald Trump's direction. It restricts Tehran's access to international financial networks and choke off revenue streams that the US government says help fund Iran's military operations and regional activities. On September 10, the Treasury Department announced sanctions targeting networks accused of supporting Iran-linked armed groups. On September 29, it sanctioned 10 individuals and entities across multiple jurisdictions over alleged procurement of weapons and components for Iran's Ministry of Defence and Armed Forces Logistics. The campaign subsequently expanded to financial networks and the oil trade. On October 1, the Treasury Department targeted the A7 Network, which it described as a shadow-banking network used by Iran to evade sanctions. On October 8, it announced measures against Iran's remaining shadow-fleet shipping network, including vessels and entities involved in transporting Iranian petroleum and petroleum products. In remarks carried by Iranian state broadcaster IRIB, the Parliament speaker said Iran intended to combine military action with diplomacy to achieve its objectives and establish what he described as “sustainable deterrence”. Ghalibaf argued that military gains must be consolidated through political negotiations, adding that Tehran's objective was to exhaust its adversary until Washington agreed to Iran's demands. “We both fight and negotiate to achieve the goal,” he said,

Her performance has triggered backlash online, with netizens wondering if she would even last as long as ex-White House communications director Anthony Scaramucci, who held the position for a record-short stint of 10 days in 2017 during Trump’s first term. For now, the odds of her being ousted by the end of the month (October) are low at just eight per cent. Is Zacharia a "joke hire"? Talking to The Independent, a former Trump admin official dubbed Zacharia's debut a "train wreck". The former Trump official, as per the report, previously described her as a "joke hire" who would likely be "gone in six months". According to her LinkedIn profile, she previously worked as a legal adviser for Fix California, a conservative group founded by Trump's former Venezuela envoy Richard Grenell. The group aims to address what it described as "the left's stranglehold" on state politics. She has also previously served as an adviser to Trump Media and Technology, the group behind the president's Truth Social platform. Zacharia also had a brief stint as a spokesperson for the Department of Homeland Security before departing in March. She interned at the White House during President George W. Bush's administration. Zacahria's Chinese law degree The new press secretary's debut also saw her fielding questions about her law degree and bar accreditation. Talking to the press alongside Trump before the POTUS left for Alaska, Zacharia was asked where she passed the bar exam: "China", she answered. “Where did she pass the bar exam? Which state?” a reporter asked Trump, who then turned to Zacharia to ask her, "Which state?” Her reply has since become a point of contention. “When I moved to China,” Zacharia responded. The White House has sought to clarify the remark and has clarified that Zacharia passed the bar exam and had moved to China with her husband after graduating due to his job at a US private equity firm. She, meanwhile, worked on international transaction law, reported The Hill.

Katie Zacharia's first White House briefing was over in just 14 minutes, but not before a China-related bar exam remark raised eyebrows. Her past links to Trump Media and conservative groups are now drawing fresh attention.

Alleged manifesto described a plan to target minorities Prosecutors allege that Paporakis sent a co-worker a document titled "Why I Fought: A.K.A. (Aurora Shooter’s Manifesto)". According to a court document obtained by The Associated Press, it described Indian, Jewish and African American people as “subhumans” and outlined an alleged plan to kill as many people as possible. The document reportedly contained a statement in which Paporakis described himself as a white supremacist neo-Nazi who fantasised about mass murder. Investigators believe the alleged attack may have been planned for Sunday. Paporakis had reportedly told colleagues that the day would be “a special day”. According to prosecutors, he later contacted a co-worker and said his gun had jammed. Local media reports, citing court records, say investigators believe the weapon malfunction prevented the alleged attack from proceeding as planned. Authorities have not confirmed the precise intended target. Also read | Near the seat of power, far from free protest? Authorities also reported finding a gas canister bearing a slur directed at South Asians and items depicting Nazi symbolism. Investigators are examining the alleged manifesto and electronic communications as part of the case. “The seriousness of this alleged threat cannot be overstated,” Palatine Police Chief William Nord said, stressing that protecting places of worship remains a law enforcement priority. The Mount Prospect and Palatine police departments coordinated the arrest. The investigation has also involved the FBI, while Aurora police contacted Hindu places of worship in their jurisdiction to alert them to the potential threat. Judge orders suspect held before trial A judge on Wednesday ordered Paporakis to remain in custody while the case proceeds. He is scheduled to appear in court again on October 30.
