<p>The Russian state TV showed Putin climbing down a ladder from the plane after the flight and praised the upgraded version of the Tu-160 bomber and called it a reliable aircraft which could be used by the Air Force.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“It’s a new machine, a lot about it is new. It’s easier to control. It’s reliable,” said Putin. As per Russian media reports he flew in an aircraft, named Ilya Muromets which took off from the Gorbunov Kazan Aviation Plant located in Kazan, 720 kilometres from the capital city of Moscow.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The bomber’s route was not disclosed, said Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov ahead of the flight. The flight also came a day after Putin climbed into the aircraft’s cockpit and toured the plant in Kazan.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Putin’s flight in the nuclear-capable bomber comes amid its ongoing war with Ukraine where Russia recently took over the Ukrainian town of Avdiivka marking Moscow's&nbsp;biggest battlefield gain since its forces captured Bakhmut last May.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The Tu-160M which can carry a crew of four is also capable of carrying 12 cruise missiles or 12 short-range nuclear missiles. The aircraft can fly around 12,000 kilometres without refuelling. It is also said to be the world’s largest supersonic military aircraft and the heaviest warplane.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Conflict Armament Research (CAR) scrutinised the components of a North Korean missile used by Russia in Ukraine. The report that they released later disclosed that a significant portion of these components, particularly those for the missile's navigation system, were recently manufactured and bore the marks of US-based companies, as per a Reuters report.</p>

<p>Despite years of international efforts to restrict North Korea's access to parts and funding for its missile and nuclear programmes, CAR's findings indicate the ongoing challenge in enforcing sanctions.</p>

<p>The report highlighted&nbsp;the intricate network through which countries like North Korea, Russia, and Iran procure technology.</p>

<h2><strong>Enforcement gaps and advocacy for action</strong></h2>

<p>Experts emphasise the necessity for robust enforcement of sanctions, stressing the inadequacy of merely having stringent sanctions policies.</p>

<p>Anthony Ruggiero from the Foundation for Defense of Democracies underscored&nbsp;the importance of continually updating sanctions lists and investing in enforcement efforts, particularly targeting Chinese entities aiding sanctions evasion.</p>

<p>“North Korea (and Russia and Iran) are experts in avoiding U.N. and U.S. sanctions through front companies and other efforts,” Ruggiero told Reuters.</p>

<p>Martyn Williams of 38 North told Reuters about the availability of common components online but suggested&nbsp;that specialised components, critical for missile functionality, should raise more significant concerns regarding sanctions enforcement.</p>

<p>“That North Korea can get these is not surprising at all, and I don’t think anyone imagined the sanctions regime would be able to stop the flow of common components,” he said.</p>

<p>“There are however much more specialized components in missiles and some of those are not a click away on the internet. Those are also the type of thing that sanctions are meant to stop, so the presence of more specialised components would be more worrying,” he added.</p>

<p>United States President Joe Biden on Wednesday (Feb 21) called his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin a "crazy SOB" while addressing a public fundraising event in California.</p>

<p>Biden is expected to cite a law dating back to 1952, known as 212(f) to reduce the intake of migrants. The specific law allows the&nbsp;president to "suspend the entry" of foreigners when their arrival is not in the country's best interest.</p>

<p>The Trump administration repeatedly used this&nbsp;law to ban migrants and those travelling from certain countries, predominantly Muslim nations.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p>Under the proposals being discussed at the White House, the ban on migrant entry would only kick in after a certain number of illegal crossings had been made over an unknown period.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>Bipartisan bill to address migrant issue</strong></h2>

<p>The $118 billion bipartisan bill passed in the Senate earlier this month had measures to overhaul the immigration policy as well as provide emergency aid for Ukraine, Israel and partners in the Indo-Pacific region. Of the total amount, $20 billion had been earmarked for shoring up the US border areas to prevent illegal migration.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Biden justified the contents of the bill, saying it would&nbsp;give him authority to “shut down” the border when it gets overwhelmed. He added the bill made the asylum process “fairer and more efficient” while&nbsp;expediting&nbsp;work permits for those already in the US.&nbsp;</p>

<p>However, the Republican-dominated House of Representatives tanked the bill, forcing the Biden administration to look for alternatives. The GOP lawmakers were majorly influenced by Trump who argued that&nbsp;measures in place in the bill to address the illegal migration issue were largely 'insufficient'.&nbsp;</p>
