US President said today more sanctions will be imposed on North Korea even as South Korea and the United States continued military drills in the Korean peninsula.
"We will be putting more sanctions on North Korea," Trump told Reuters on the sidelines of the United Nations meeting. The official announcement of the sanctions on North Korea will be made on Thursday.
A senior Trump administration official told Reuters the sanctions are not expected to target oil.
In his maiden address to the UN General Assembly, President Donald Trump had emphatically declared "United States will have no choice but to totally destroy North Korea", adding "Rocket Man is on a suicide mission".
South Korean President Moon speaking at the United Nations said he wanted to prevent war from breaking out, adding tensions should not overly intensify leading to "accidental military clashes" which would destroy peace in the region.
Moon quoted former US President Ronald Reagan saying: "Peace is not the absence of conflict, it is the ability to handle conflict by peaceful means."
