US records 2,502 coronavirus deaths in past 24 hours; toll tops 60,000

The United States recorded 2,502 coronavirus deaths in the past 24 hours, taking the toll to 60,853 as of Wednesday.
After two days of a relative easing in the toll on Sunday and Monday, the numbers have spiked again the past two days.
A total of 10,30,487 cases have been reported in the country.
The state of New York suffered the most, with 2,99,691 cases and 23,384 deaths. Other hardest-hit states included New Jersey with 6,771 deaths, Michigan with 3,673 deaths and Massachusetts with 3,153 deaths, the data showed.
Meanwhile, as many as 35 of the 50 American states have released formal opening plans, as US President Donald Trump on Wednesday exuded confidence that much better days are ahead for the country.
Most industries and business activities remain shut and over 95 percent of the country's 330 million population have been under stay-at-home orders. Over 26 million Americans have applied for unemployment benefits and the number is expected to go up to more than 30 million.
