Republican Convention: Knife-wielding man shot down, another with AK-47 pistol arrested

A homeless man wielding two knives was shot dead near the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee on Tuesday. The incident happened five blocks from the GOP headquarters where the event was about to start in around two hours. New York Post quoted a witness as saying that the man swung two steak knives at the police. Meanwhile, Fox News reported that an armed man wearing a ski mask wasarrested from near the RNC area. A concealed AK-47 pistol was found in his tactical backpack, besides a full magazine of ammunition.
The21-year-old man was arrested around 1 pmon the 1200 block of N. 11th Street.
According to a spokesperson from the branch’s Fraternal Order of Police, “multiple officers” from Columbus, Ohio, who were in the city as part of extra security for the GOP event, fired their weapons.
Witnesses say that nearly eight gunshots were heard as the homeless man tried to run away and was shot in the back. Some of them claim that nearly eight police officers shot at the man.
The police don't know much about what happened before the shooting and why the man had knives in his hand, but they say that he was “swinging knives at an individual and or the officers.”
The Post quoted another homeless man, Edward Watkins, who claimed to be the knife-wielding person's best friend, as saying, "He had this look in his eyes that was nothing I’ve ever seen before in four months of knowing him."

He identified the man as Sam and said that he lived in a "tent city". He claimed that he heard voices in his head, which is why people in the camp knew him as “Jehovah". He added that "Sam" wanted to die and he told him "he was having these thoughts in his head".
Meanwhile, Alexi Worley, a spokesperson in the convention’s joint command centre, told Post that there is no reason to believe that the shooting had any link with the RNC.
Milwaukee officials haven't officially identified the man yet.

While officials don't see a link between the RNC and the shooting, extreme caution has been exercised ever since an assassination attempt against Donald Trump. A man shot at the Republican presidential nominee on Saturday during his campaign rally in Pennsylvania. Trump only sustained an injury on his ear and was quickly whisked away after the suspect was brought down.
