Melania Trump, the incoming First Lady during Donald Trump’s second term, has plans to balance her duties in Washington, DC, with family time in New York and Florida.
According to an insider at Mar-a-Lago, her focus will be on her son, Barron, who’s currently attending New York University.
On her terms
“Melania will be the First Lady, but on her terms,” the source told The NY Post, indicating she intends to keep her involvement selective.
“She’ll do the big events. But no ladies’ tea and no — or very few — interviews.”

Reportedly, while Melania will participate in “big events,” she’ll avoid more traditional First Lady commitments like “ladies’ tea and no — or very few — interviews”.
“She views winning as the main show,” the source added, explaining that “the rest she’ll do as she pleases”, balancing her roles as mother, wife, and First Lady.
“Melania will be a part-time first lady — while being a full-time mother and wife.”
Empty nester?
Melania in September told Fox News that she respects his decision to live in New York and is hopeful for his experience, noting that “his life is very different than any other 18, 19-year-old.”
Despite primarily living in their Florida mansion, Mar-a-Lago, the Trumps still maintain their residence in Trump Tower in Manhattan, where Barron, 18, has started his college journey at New York University.
“I could not say I’m an empty nester. I don’t feel that way,” she said in an interview.

“It was his decision to come here, that he wants to be in New York, study in New York, and live in his home and I respect that.
“He’s enjoying his college days. I hope he will have a great experience because his life is very different than any other 18, 19-year-old child,” she added.
Reflecting on the upcoming term, she noted feeling less pressure, saying, “This time is different. I have much more experience and much more knowledge.”
“I was in the White House before. When you go in, you know exactly what to expect,” she said.
