Pelosi gives marathon speech on "Dreamers" on House floor

Story highlights

Pelosi said that she would not support a budget caps agreement unless the House Speaker Paul Ryan promised to advance legislation to protect young Dreamers.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi spoke for a little more than eight hours to oppose the budget deal to lift spending caps and avert a government shutdown -- because the plan does not address immigration issues.

Pelosi ended her speech after voicing disappointment that "Dreamers," young immigrants brought to the United States as children, were not protected as part of a bill drafted by Congress to extend federal government funding.

"I have had the privilege of reading the testimony from Dreamers, I still have more," she said, receiving applause in the chamber. "I thank all of you."
