Israel-Hamas war: Newborn saved from dead mother's womb in Gaza

In what can only be described as a miracle, a newborn baby boy in Gaza was saved from his mother's womb after she died from wounds sustained during an Israeli strike.
The miracle took place at theAl-Awda Hospital whereOla Adnan Harb al-Kurd -- the mother, arrived 'barely alive' after surviving a night of missile strikes that killed more than 24 people, including six members of the same family at the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza.
Surgeon Akram Hussein and his team started operating on Kurd instantly but despite their best efforts, could not save her, according to news agency AFP.
However, after an ultrasound detected the baby's heartbeat, the doctors got back to work and performed an emergency C-sectionto bring the baby into the world.
The infant was in critical condition but stabilised after receiving oxygen and medical attention, according toRaed al-Saudi, head of the hospital's obstetrics and gynaecology department.
The baby was placed in an incubator and later transferred to theAl-Aqsa Hospital in Deir el-Balah. Notably, the baby's mother was among three women and a child killed in the Israeli strike. Kurd's husband was also seriously wounded in the strike.

In April, baby Sabreen al-Sakani was delivered by a similar procedure at a Rafah hospital after her mother had died.
Sabreen's mother, also called Sabreen, was in the final months of his pregnancy when an Israeli air strike destroyed her family home. While Sabreen suffered extensive injuries, her husband and three-year-old daughter Malak died in the attack.
Sabreen was rushed to the hospital where doctors performed an emergency C-section to deliver the child. The mother, however, perished.
The baby came out weighing only 1.4 kg and facing severe respiratory distress. Born prematurely, the doctors put her in an incubator where she survived, albeit for four days only. Sabreen was buried next to her mother.
Israel has stepped up its attacks in several parts of Gaza in line withPrime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's orders. Hospitals are operating in dire conditions which has made childbirth - an already difficult process,all the more perilous.
According to Doctors Without Borders, prematuredeliveries and maternal complications, including cases of eclampsia, haemorrhage and sepsis, have been rising.
