Canada censors Australia Today over Jaishankar’s presser, India blasts Ottawa’s ‘hypocrisy’

Canada has blocked social media pages of Australia Today, a prominent media outlet, India’s Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said on Thursday (Nov. 7), stressing that this highlights the hypocrisy of Canada’s 'freedom of speech'.
This comes after the presserof India’s EAM Jaishankar and his Australian counterpart PennyWong was covered by Australia Today.
“We understand that social media pages have been blocked. This happened hours after EAM Jaishankar, Australia FM Wong's presser. We were surprised. Highlights the hypocrisy of Canada's freedom of speech,” Randhir Jaiswal said during a weekly briefing.
Further, condemning the attack on the Hindu temple in Canada’s Brampton, Jaiswal said, “We condemn the attack on the temple in Brampton. We also called upon the Canadian government to uphold the rule of law and to bring to justice people who perpetrated the violence. We hope the Canadian government will take due action."

As tensions between India and Canada soar, Jaiswal said that the consular services have faced a setback due to security reasons.
He highlighted that a recent consular camp in Canada was cancelled, saying that there were inadequate security provisions from the Canadian authorities.

“Yes, our consular camp was cancelled because it did not get adequate security from the host government.” He further assured that similar consular operations would continue in other Canadian cities. “In other parts of Canada, like Vancouver, consular camps will continue,” he said.
"I do understand that in other parts of Canada, Vancouver for example, the consular camps will be conducted. These consular camps are conducted at the request of the community organizations. So where the community organization is comfortable, we will go ahead with these consular camps,” Jaiswal added.
