U.S. Removes Highly Enriched Uranium From Venezuela

The Trump administration has announced a major nuclear security operation resulting in the removal of Venezuela’s stockpile of highly enriched uranium from a decommissioned research reactor.
According to the U.S. Department of Energy, the operation involved American, British, Venezuelan and IAEA coordination to safely transport the uranium out of Venezuela and into the United States for processing. Officials described the mission as a key non-proliferation success aimed at reducing nuclear security risks in South America and beyond.
