Tel Aviv University experts who have studied the coral reefs in the Red Sea resort of Eilat for the past four years say a disruption has occurred in the synchrony mechanism essential for coral spawning - the simultaneous release of eggs and sperm into the water. Some corals that reproduce by spawning may face extinction because the delicate process is out of sync, Israeli researchers say.
