The UN adopts first treaty to protect high seas

The United Nations has adopted the world's first Accord to protect the high seas a landmark environmental Accord designed to protect remote ecosystems vital to humanity. This is the first international treaty designed around protecting remote waters. Following more than 15 years of discussions including four years of formal negotiations the treaty will establish a legal framework to ensure Environmental Protection of the international waters.
