After a year-long diplomatic gap, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has appointed veteran negotiator Roelf Meyer as the new ambassador to the United States. The move comes after the earlier expulsion of envoy Ebrahim Rasool in 2025. Ramaphosa praised Meyer’s commitment to a non-racial South Africa, signalling a renewed effort to stabilise ties with Washington.
