Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has proposed direct peace talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin during the G7 summit in France, marking a renewed diplomatic push to end the ongoing war. Zelensky suggested that the presence of leaders like Donald Trump and Emmanuel Macron could create a strong platform for negotiations. However, Russia has rejected the proposal, with Putin stating there is no need for a meeting at this stage. Zelensky has also floated the United States as an alternative venue, warning that continued refusal from Moscow could lead to increased international pressure.
