New York freezes permits for sites drawing over 50MW

New York has paused environmental permits for new or expanding data centres capable of consuming 50 megawatts or more of electricity. Governor Kathy Hochul’s one-year moratorium aims to give the state time to assess the impact of these massive facilities on power demand, water resources, air quality and electricity bills.
