Manipur government tells assembly 306 people have been killed, 49 remain missing

Three years after ethnic violence first erupted in Manipur, the state government has informed the assembly that 306 people have been killed while 49 remain missing. A 24-hour shutdown has disrupted normal life across Manipur’s valley districts, with markets, schools and public transport largely shut. Protesters are demanding that the National Register of Citizens (NRC) be updated before the Census.
