The largest bug to ever live on Earth was a massive arthropod known as Arthropleura, which could reach up to 9 feet long and weigh around 50 kilograms. This giant creature, which lived during the Carboniferous period about 300 million years ago, resembled a massive millipede and thrived in the lush, oxygen-rich forests of prehistoric Earth. Its size was supported by the high oxygen levels of the time, allowing arthropods to grow to extraordinary proportions. Arthropleura dominated the forest floor, feeding on plant material and playing a key role in its ecosystem.
