Iraqi date farmers convert heat crisis into bountiful opportunity

Unlike other farmers whose crops have been destroyed by Iraq’s scorching heat this summer, a date farmer decided to find an opportunity in this crisis. The intense heat accelerates date ripening, enhancing yield quality. Drought and extreme temperatures have rendered large parts of Iraq virtually uninhabitable during summer months. Recent years have seen record temperatures, exceeding 52 degrees Celsius.
