Heatwave grips North India

Northwest India is under red alert as a severe heatwave - in terms of high temperatures and extended duration - lashes the region. The mercury has extended beyond 45 degrees Celsius in many areas, including the Capital Delhi. The Indian Meteorological Department blames it on hot winds blowing in from Pakistan as also remnants of the El-Nino effect and climate change. In contrast, heavy rains lash parts of South India as the much-awaited Monsoons approach.
