Google Seeks Federal Permit to Unleash Massive Mosquito Swarm

Google-backed biotech firm Verily is seeking federal approval in the United States to release millions of lab-grown mosquitoes as part of a disease-control project. The plan aims to reduce populations of harmful mosquitoes by releasing sterilised male insects, but it has also sparked concerns over environmental risks and public safety.
