Colombia officially joined the conservative shift in Latin America when far-right populist and lawyer Abelardo de la Espriella won the presidential election in a runoff against leftist Senator Ivan Cepeda. The election returns Colombia to conservative leadership, ending four years under outgoing President Gustavo Petro.
