China’s tax policy shift comes amid economic slowdown

China has announced it will begin taxing interest income from newly issued government and financial institution bonds, ending a decades long tax exemption. Starting August 8, a 6 percent value added tax will apply to bonds issued by central and local governments, as well as banks and other financial institutions.
